  2. Both wheels off at the same time? Best practice is to tie it off ("chain fall ") from the joists, above, in addition to your jacking method. Belt AND suspenders? Definitely. It's worth for that ONE time that one fails without a backup. Don't ask me how I know . . .
  3. Thanks. I've already been ruminating on this actually. Weather is forecast heavy rain tomorrow too so that seals the deal. Out into the garage I go to take the wheels off. :-)
  4. Today
  5. Seems like good indications you could go longer between change intervals. Is there any reference to the base oil Motul is using for the 20W-50 product?
  6. I can see that the mounting differences are more likely the rear crossmember of the spine frame and the lower, rear subframe.
  7. Yes, they are good enough, although not "hyper-sport" tyres, of course. The company Heidenau is known here. They have, as a small manufacturer, concentrated on niche markets a bit, and on of them is classic-styled tyres with modern rubber compounds. I would not necessarily use them for track days and such, but they are fine on the road. And yes, the tire is covered with the "teats". I'll try to remember to take a photo.
  8. I add the latest report (go to the 1st post) I got from Blackstone after sending the latest sample while using Motul V-Twin 20W50 made in USA...
  9. It is hard to say what would have happened if Marc wasn't on a factory Ducati. But this is the first race where it may not have been a Ducati winning if Ducati had not signed Marc. Although it could have played out that Vinales won and then had the win taken from him. That would have been seriously cruel. Yes, it was an impressive race from Marc, he had the speed but also the racecraft. However, history is shown that things can change pretty quick, sometimes in a single corner. Vinales has always been a hot or cold racer, some races he shows incredible speed and other races he does not. Sometimes he even shows both in the same race. He really tends to need his ducks to line up to be fast, and he is not that good at lining his ducks up. Look at his results this year prior to this race, 16th, 12th, & 14th. Funny, even though his race was way better this time out after his penalty for the front tire pressure BS he ended up back where he usually is, 14th as I understand it. I would love to see Vinales competitive on a regular basis. But I would not hold my breath. His performance does show that the KTM really isn't that far out, they just need to hit on the right combination of setup. The bike is capable of it, the speed is there. KTM just need to find the right combination of what they have. Currently they are getting that combination wrong, the Michelin tires don't want to work for them (especially the new rear). I have had chatter issue on my front tire, but I have never experienced chatter at the rear. That is bizarre. I hope the coming switch to a different tire manufacturer helps even out the field. The Michelin tire has really become a king maker, with Ducati currently the only manufacturer able to wear that crown. The others are doing what they can with it, but it is always a struggle for them to minimize the issues with the tires. That isn't the best way to have a spec tire series.
  10. In Ky that is Valhalla !
  11. I think a Ducati would have won. Yes, Marc Marquez was very smart on this one. Bagnaia did pretty well to come back from afar, but this world championship seems to already have its favorite. I am not saying Bagnaia is out of contention, but it seems clear that Marc Marquez has one leg up on just everyone. If we were expecting Jorge Martin's return to spice it up, we can now forget about it. As for Maverick Viñales, I am hopeful he will also be competitive in Jerez.

@audiomick In the 70's, I used to install either retreaded tires or tires that I would get from a wreck yard. I do not know if you are familiar with the wrecked car lots. This was a place where you would go and look for spares for your car. Most of the time, you would have to remove it yourself. You could also purchase wheels with used tires. I remember the retreaded tires would always squeal in turns... then the squeal tires disappeared in the modern world. But I am sure you remember if going too fast in a curve with your Opel Manta, or Rekord, or Kadett, or Olympia, the tires would whine plenty... This kind of place:
  13. Well, that was the Marc Marquez of earlier this year, the smarter Marc that doesn't ride beyond his limits to make a point. It wasn't the Marc that we saw at COTA. It was a measured and intelligent ride by Marc to take the win. It was not that from his brother, Alex. Although, to be fair, the contact between Marc and Alex was a racing incident that was mainly Marcs fault. And as I understand it Marc said as much. But the way Alex nailed Digi was brutal. Of course, not as brutal as what happened to Jorge Martin. And then, just to remind us how bad the joke is, a fantastic ride by Vinales was screwed because of a lame rule about tire pressures. That continues to be a bad joke. Vinales was likely robbed of a second place because he managed to get out front in clean air and lead the race for some 5 laps or so. That needs to stop. This is perhaps the first race where Ducati's decision to sign Marc Marquez actually paid off. This is the first race that Ducati might not have won had they not signed Marc.
  14. It's a Dairyland expression.
  15. I don't know why they'd be different, since the transmission is carried by the removable crosspiece, not the porkchop. The footpegs etc. don't care. Probably different part numbers but as you're well aware that can be nothing more than the shade of paint, or updating a radius on the forging. We'll see when they arrive.
  16. Well , the Southern yanks (if there is such a thang) call them "tits" .
  17. You watch (monitor) them while making casual conversation and see that they leave nothing loose or on wrong. Usually it's best to take the wheels there and let them swap the tires. You can reinstall at your leisure making sure you're happy w/the install.

    V11 kickstand

When you do get this in and go to put it together , lubricate the pivot w/grease . This will make it easier and last longer.
  19. Thank you for all the replies. Very much appreciate you taking the time to write them. Job's done. Now for new tyres. :-) Going in tomorrow for a set. Been a long time since I rode a bike on nice, fresh rubber. Pilot 6 in this case.

    hairy tyres

We used to get warned by the shop we got tires from they had a coating on them. It's more than just the sprues. For the first couple hundred miles we "scrubbed tires in". Take it easy for the first couple hundred, then the bike gets back to normal. My favorite loop always has gravel on it. People just wander off the road onto the gravel which throws it on the pavement which is like riding on marbles which make what kind of tires you're riding on largely irrelevant. I still want good tires on my bike.
  21. The V100 in blue looks really good. In fact I think the model looks better all in one colour like this but the blue suits it. Cheers

Even though those are copies of Metzeler, are they known as sticky enough? Is the tire literally covered with these "teats" as some Yanks call them?
  23. I love the whole line. I find this effort has a broad appeal, thoughtful designs, and a reverence to the Moto Guzzi familiarity that we know. The (very plain) V7 Stone at 15:30 appeals to me. It does not try to be mySport , or pretend to be any other Guzzi of the past. It looks to be just a pure motorcycle, ready for the roads I need to ride and whatever I would ask of it. What my older brother called a "Trash-Mo." (Ride it - use it - make it work) The "California" at the end of the video looks to be part of the helmet display and not anything to do with the new models on offer. What do I know? I have my Moto Guzzi. (And they know this about us.) I am glad for this, and hope the new generation(s) of motorcyclists value these magnificent motorcycles.
  24. I felt exactly the same; I thought the California was discontinued because they can't pass the Euro 5+ emission with a large capacity engine without liquid cooling. Unless, this is a model made to be only commercialized in the USA. But I can't see the California anywhere listed on Guzzi dealerships websites.
  25. Handle bar ? as in clip on ? Is yours on top of the triple tree or under the triple tree ? Can you post a pic ? If you can do w/o it for a while , I might can straighten it.
  26. Not zero, but not much. A bit over 200 km. . Tyre pressure was ok; I checked it before I started. Don't know the production date, but I bought the tyre new last December, so I am assuming it is new enough. Date stamp is the same here, i.e. week and year. The sprues (didn't know that word till now. Collins dictionary has some interesting alternative meanings for it.... https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/sprue) will go away in time, I know. As I wrote, I find them aesthically unpleasing, and am inclined to get rid of them with the side-cutters for that reason alone. If they might be affecting the handling, even temporarily, all the more reason to take the time.
  27. It seems they are. Here, for the V11, page 12, part #3 https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/V11Sport-RossoMandello_1999-2001_062011_PL(GB).pdf and here for the 1100 Sport i.e., page 27, part #3 https://guzzitek.org/parts_list/gb/1100/1100SportIE_1996_1999_052010_PL(GB).pdf
