Guest j. ciccone Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 any tips on break in of a new '03, go easy or ride like you stole it. Also last time I broke in a new guzzi the valves needed adjustment at 200 miles.
Guest Apexlocator Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 I took it easy on mine for the first 300, had the oil changed with the cheap stuff and rode it some more. At around 700 I had the service done, including the good oil. It runs like a top now, and I put the Mistral Cans on and it sounds great. Next is the power commander and airbox with dyno tuning (700 bucks worth) but will be well worth it. We have awesome bikes, but they need to be let out of their cage. Just don't lug your bike too much, but don't ride it too hard either. Frank
Guest rrbasso Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 I kept it below 5000rpms for the first 500miles, then changed oil,6000rpms till I hit 1000mils then did first service, now ride it like you stole it. Tony
Guest tenni015 Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 More rantings from the North of England: I kept to the advice in the handbook. I bought my Guzzi for it's long life, and servicability. I tour Europe every year and haven't found a better bike. So, now that we're run in, and I spank the pants off it sometimes, I've still Slick 50'd it, and use fully synthetic 10-50 Motorsport Oil, i.e. the best I can find. I also change the oil at 3000 miles. An engine's life and performance decreases with the frequency of oil changes. My old uncle, who had an AJS 500 some while ago, always said "Cheapest petrol, best oil!" He wasn't wrong.

What do you mean by cheap oil? And why would your engine do better the less you change the oil. Isn't the vescosity of oil paramount to the lubrication of moving parts such as pistons etc. Does the oil lose vescosity the longer and hotter the engine runs? What is the recommended miliage for an oil change?
Guest rrbasso Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 I change my oil every 2500, and do a full service at every 5000, I also think best gas and best oil, after looking at a lot of motors taken apart i beleve frequent oil changes will prolong the life of your engin. Tony
Guest tenni015 Posted June 24, 2004 Posted June 24, 2004 Let me clarify my previous answer. What I should have said was " Engine life will be prolonged if the oil is changed more frequently, and more so if you use better quality oil". I haven't had any bad experiences using low octane petrol, I only have one choice now - 95 Unleaded. Sorry for any confusion. I blame my uncle.
Guest GGuzzi Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 S#$t dude. I put in Vegetable oil and 83 octane thanks to your uncle!!!!! Watch your post people take the S@#T seriously.
