docc Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Such a weak link, perhaps unique to the V11. All in a noble effort to make the side stand "ergonomic." That and the wire loop "lever" that doesn't figure to last. A reminder to us all to keep these fasteners snugged up (especially the "upper" engine case bolt!) and the whole Rube Goldberg affair well lubricated. I noticed the large, upper bolt into the timing chest is referenced in the Workshop Manual torque specifications: "Fastening screw for side stand support plate: 70-75 Nm" Mine was tight, but not that tight!
swooshdave Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 That big bolt originally was for the frame. It should be able to take a lot of torque.
docc Posted August 28, 2017 Posted August 28, 2017 Did it break? Nope. I try to keep my side stand well fettled. After the flipper-bail/ wire lever thingie let go (again), I fitted something rude to solve that problem once-and-for-all. Scanning torque specs (yeah, I stay up late sometimes . . .), I saw that spec for the "side stand support plate" and was impressed with the value (70-75 Nm). Mine might have been 50, but 70-75Nm is pretty high torque. 1
