Guest Britcheflee Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 Hi, Taking the advice of another member here who gave detailed info on the Buell footpeg swap out I decided that for the cost of $30 or so I would give it a go. Harley dealer ordered footpegs and they arrived today - took old ones off and set to grinding down sides as described - a little at a time until they just slid in - then I wasted about an hour driving around looking for a suitable bushing - eventually found a piece of old metal towel rack pipe which was a fairly close fit - used a pipe cutter for copper pipe to cut off and installed with the larger Buell springs - the tension of the springs pretty much takes up any small gap you have with whatever you use as a bushing - took me a while to figure out that the springs do work but they go in a different position than the other ones. Just from sitting on it I notice a difference in foot position and your legs are that little bit more relaxed - the brake side feels fine - just slide foot forward a tad and the other side feels good too but need to take it for a ride to see for sure - did not drill out the mount in case I want to revert back to the orignal footpegs. Removed the metal 'talon' from the bottom of the footpeg - do these serve any critial purpose? See if these pics come out:
Guest Britcheflee Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 PS - it was with some trepidation that I went to the Harley dealer....perhaps they have been given a management course in customer relations but they were actually very helpful. At one point when asked what type of Buell it was for I said I was afraid to tell them as I was treated like a lepper some years back when I came in to ask about a battery for my Moto Guzzi - the manager was actually very nice and said he had a couple of other bikes other than a HD - including a Kawasaki concours and an old RD 400 (two stroke) which he was working on to use at the track!!! I left with a more positive attitude about the HD store today. Lee
dlaing Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 I left with a more positive attitude about the HD store today. 92363 I bought HD dealers turn signals one time, and brake lamp another. Both times I got experienced, friendly, helpful service, and no complaints that it was for a Guzzi. ...And the parts were in stock. ...And no pushy salespeople when ooogling the Buells ...And hot friendly cashiers
al_roethlisberger Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Agreed, I have had nothing but a very positive experience buying a number of parts that are a direct(or very close) swap from a HD/Buell to the V11. In fact, most of the guys there were quite interested in the bike and what I was doing ...and yes, generally the parts were in stock, or I waited a whole week al
Guest ckamin Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 So what did it do? Lower your foot placement about an inch? I'm 6'2", I might have to check it out...... And yes, God bless the hotties at the Harley dealer!!
Guest Britcheflee Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 ckamin - the footpegs are about an inch down and back - does not seem much on paper but I really noticed a difference just sitting on the bike - still have not had a chance to ride - work and stuff around the house but I think they are going to work. If you do this then you do need the Buell springs (the original springs are too small with the new bushing) I have some of the towel rail pipe which I cut for the bushing and can mail a section to you if you want - obviously you grind down the pegs and then cut the bushing to the new width of the pegs......how do I know that?.....yeah right. I would go this route rather than getting the Buell pins and drilling out the mounts - you may wish to replace the original pegs in the future. My theory was that for about $30 it was worth the experiment just to see if it worked or not. Lee
Skeeve Posted June 21, 2006 Posted June 21, 2006 Removed the metal 'talon' from the bottom of the footpeg - do these serve any critial purpose? 92362 The idea is that they touch down first, before any non-yielding hard parts (which could lever up a wheel & lead to crashing) do so. Yessss, they do look extra funky!
Guest Barnapkin Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 What model year buell do I ask for??
Crooz Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Buell probably sells more of these footpegs than any other part they have... (even considering how frequently Buells breakdown). In the past I have installed these pegs on a Kawasaki ZX12, and a Suzuki SV1000s... They fit practally all sport bikes and all the individual model bike forums mention these Buell pegs as an option.
dangerous Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 OK, well I dont get it... theres the missus Buell XB12R in the garage next to my v11... the pegs are the same swapinng them around would make no difference, anyone cear to explain?
Guest Barnapkin Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 What year buell??? Am I to believe that buell has only used one footpeg??
Richard Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 OK, well I dont get it... theres the missus Buell XB12R in the garage next to my v11... the pegs are the same swapinng them around would make no difference, anyone cear to explain? Check out the second photo at the top of the page and all will become clear.
mdude Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 See! Put aside those prejudices and HD! DONT push it, dude.... What model year buell do I ask for?? I bought pegs from the Ulysses, 2006... if they have the lowered shape with the angled kink(as on photo above) they will all be correct. I think the sports models have straight pegs which wont lower anything.
