  1. Antonio what Robbie said, we have to tape up all lights and plastic lenses to ride on the track...on page two of that tread is an action shot I didn't think it looked that bad the tape matched the leathers I was wearing the reason I use the "blue" tape it is painters masking tape (3M product) it sticks well enough to pass the tech inspector and comes off real easy with no glue transfer to bike, only thing you have to do is make sure the lights are disconnected so heat doesn't bake on the tape (pull out bulb or disconnect plug to light). Todd aka RacerX is an Instructor at RedShift so he (all instuctors) run with mirrors and lights to help us "students" with braking points and all such things. richr
  2. dave if you look closely at the dates of the 2008 rally...it is going to be during the weekdays tues, wed, thurs so people can have the weekends plus monday and friday to travel to and from rally and only miss/plan for one week (five vacation days) away from work or home plus less traffic in the mountain roads we plan on riding on weekdays. richr.
  3. drhunt1, the bags and racks are stock SPII (bags not in pic) they are the same mounts as earlier SP's they are a simple rack you could get any rack and modify the mounting points (cut and reweld the arms) they mount on the bolt at end of frame 2nd point is muffler bracket bolt and 3rd pioint is top shock mount. the difference between the SP and SPII bags was that the newer (spII) bags were moulded with a slant and the earllier bags were square. if you look up sprint on web it well seem they only make stuff for brit bikes and ducati's but they make stuff for Guzzi's I emailed them and they said still make ( when I exchanged emails with them about a year ago. the lights come with fairing and are wired mine came with 2 hi/low cibies 55/60 which was a bit much on the charging system so I had to desconnect one low beem, I should of just put a on/off switch to one low beam for city driving and when on hwy up in the rpm I could run the 2 low beems. they were so much better than the stock headlight of SPII, it was worse than the square light on LeMans dr hunt PM me and I'll send you my Ph # and we can talk about options on bags for your bike. richr
  4. Ballacraine, I would have never thought of putting the side panels and fairing from LM2 (in USA CX100 with square headlight) onto the V11 sport spine. It looks good. I felt that was one of the best fairings Guzzi made for sport touring when moving very good protection from foul weather and still sporty, I miss that fairing. On my spII (Spada everywhere else) I changed the upper fairing to a copy of LM2 but with twin round headlights made by Sprint in the UK. and changed the handlebars and made the stock controls into rearsets. This is the bike I swore I would never sell...but did http://www.socal-guzzi.com/Pictures-RichardRod.html not sure if you will be able to see, it should pop up and scroll down to the lower pics. I haven't posted any pics of my hot rod Jackal yet I want to have it completely done before I post 'em. same goes for the Convert.
  5. I have owned a CX100 an SPII that I made look like a CX100. Presently I have 3 Tonti's and 1 spine frame. I liked my old Tonti's they were very fun to ride but as I rode newer versions the older bikes showed their age. I know a lot of guys won't agree with me but the best Tonti made to date is the FI California series and I know they don't look like sport bikes but with minor to moderate changes they become very good sport bikes. plus with few modifications you could hang entire CX100 bodywork onto the Cali bike and also have the look of a sportbike. the next paragraph you didn't ask for this info but I'm throwing it out so you may understand why I feel hanging onto the earlier versions is only for the collectors the newer versions are much better equipped and more fun to ride swiftly. the older bikes require you to work harder for similiar speed, for some this is more fun...not for me. when they (FI California's) came out I refused to even look at them I felt they missed the mark they couldn't be better than my modified SP for crying out loud they were now cruisers...then I rode RacerX's Jackal (Todd Eagan's HOT ROD Jackal) at buttonwillow Raceway and I was passing sportbikes at will in B group (riding at about 7/10ths) within a month I sold my bike that I swore I would never sell to get a Jackal to make into a sportbike. I have not regreted it at all. I have changed the bars, front fork springs (wilbers progressive), relaced front rim to a 17X3.5, bought rearset footcontrols, and raised the seat, added second front brake and steelbraided lines with 19mm radial mastercylinder, and have ordered Wilbers rearshocks. I have kept the bodywork stock it is more fun that way with the sportbike crowd ( they hate it!) Todds Jackal has been the absolute best Tonti I have got to ride to date. my version is a close second ( Todd has changed alot more stuff that make it better)this is the bike I like riding the most. my spine frame (Scura) I like the looks of this bike the most and is my 2nd favorite bike to ride (very close second, well almost equal) sooo as everyone has told you the old bike's feel really small, newer bikes are bigger and weigh more but feel lighter when you are moving...very true. in the end I think the newer versions are going to win you over...old bikes are like x-girlfiends at a time of "weakness" you remember them fondly but a few moments later you KNOW why they are no longer around and are happy with your choices. richr
  6. So all you sour grape people that think Hayden isn't worthy were not seeing what really went on during this season. Hayden won the championship despite Honda not because of Honda they had him testing unproven stuff plus developing parts for next years 800cc on his racebike. Honda and Repsol wanted Dani Pedrosa to be world champion. Honda saw Hayden as their test mule for Dani's next bike. All the times you say he was dogging it were due to bike problems, he was unable to go faster and engage. yet he still managed to finish in the points all the times except when Dani knocked him off. So like it or not, NICKY HAYDEN is the world champion and Rossi is #2 and no matter how you try to explain it to yourself...Hayden is the best rider in 2006 and Rossi isn't! and he has nobody to blame but himself, he blew the start then tucked the front and fell. and before he fell he was in a word of hurt with at least 3 Honda riders to pick though before he would reach Nicky. I don't think he would of pulled it off even if he didn't fall. tuff to take, but the EX-Champ cracked under the pressure and wasn't able to recover. Hayden, Rossi and Capirossi all had problems and bad luck just Hayden salvaged the most points on his bad days. everyone that has won a championship has eased up and settled for a position and not risk falling and losing points including Rossi. richr
  7. I thought I saw red sparkplug wire with cap at/on MG Cycle parts web page plus it wasn't much $$ check there. richr

    New ride

Here in the USA they are grinding their cams to a slow death, they recalled them (Hydro models) not 100% sure but the fix was to supply more oil to cam lobes should be ok, but I would still be uneasy getting one. the rub is there are stuff on the hydros that are better than earlier models one main change is the rear swingarm/drive shaft, it allows you to put a wider rear wheel if you choose to, compared to earlier models. also the fork legs use the same bolt pattern on front brake calipers as the brembo superbike (4 pucks per side) calipers if you wish to upgade them plus then add the 19mm radial master cylinder, yeah this is overkill but man do they work!! I rode Todd E aka racerX's Jackal at Buttonwillow racetrack with said brakes plus a slew of other mods that Jackal is awsome! the best part of riding his Jackal at this trackday was all the guys on hypersportbikes asking "that is a cruiser...isn't it?" next phrase was normally "I didn't know those bikes went around corners that good".

    New ride

any 98 or newer california would work... avoid the hydro models. the EV11 is considered the top dog (has most ummm...stuff on it ) the california special sport is sportier version (has footpegs and deferent handlebars). The Jackal and Stone are the same entry level, but you can add the second front brake need to change front stock master cylinder to one for dual brakes they are not linked so more like your Scura vs EV11 or CAL s/s. People that ride multiple bikes that are not all linked, usually don't like the linked brakes because on linked brake bike the foot brake is used as your primary brake and on the Scura it is your front brake. As for me I have 2 bikes with linked and 2 without and at moment they are staying that way. Keep in mind with these bikes you can make them into what ever you want including making them look like v7 sports/LM 1 or retro cafe racer...Keiths stone was done by Mark Etheridge at Moto Guzzi Classics in Long beach, CA...he also made a EV- Eldo for Mike Curtis but Curtis sold it not sure who has it now. Think you can see picure of it in so cal guzzi forum go to members section and click on Mike Curtis "picture" and think there is several pics with a real ambo near it for effect. for me this is best combo a Scura and a California...or two and a Convert, yep that's it! richr
  11. Hey Jon, I thought we had a deal on the two-fifty Rebel...I'll go pick it up...only reason I haven't is you always tell me you will bring it to me. BTW Bob V in San Diego is selling his green '00 V11 sport. has a lot of nice clean changes. bike in like new condition. richr
  12. So All you guys that think a old tonti works better than a newer (98 to 05) California are not looking at what improvements the california has received a stiffer frame with upper and lower trannie brace a big plus, then the forks are light years better, same goes for brakes the rear swingarm is longer and works better. So it doesn't look like a LeMans I to V but it works better than all of them especailly if you mod the Cali like we have, And as an added bonus the cops pretty much leave you alone...since it's just a "crusier". I just bought the Scura I can see where it is going to be ultimately the best...but at moment tonti supplies the best feel and confidence. richr
  13. Hi, I guess I should chime in since the bike that hit the deck at this San Diego Rally was mine! I'll start out by saying...IT IS JUST A MOTORCYCLE GET A GRIP MAN! I should clear up the incident. My Friend didn't ask to borrow my bike I offered it to him. His bike broke down and unable to take his own bike back to motel, so I lent him my bike. This friend is very experinced rider in fact we tease him because he is such a safety freak! he rarely rides other friends bikes. The day was bad in that it was misting all day and night. (wet roads). We were at a camp ground that had very little lighting and it was foggy (poor visablity). he normally rides a T-3-FB and a 1000s which both are linked brake models...I loaned him a Y2K Hot Rod Jackal with twin 320mm front discs, Brembo 4 pot calipers and 19mm Brembo radial front master cylinder that are not linked, these front brakes would be a tad better than the single Brembo 2 pot caliper and 12mm front mastercylinder on his bike. ( new to him)...so I warned him about not using the front brake the way he does on his bike just needs one/two finger max....so he uses the whole hand (BTW the way MSF teaches you to use the front brake) and locks front wheel while going slightly right (leaned over a little) the bike skided about 8 to 10 feet so he was probably going closer to 10 mph not that it matters much. He wasn't doing anything stupid just a few things stacked up against him and gravity bit him. Out of all my friends that I might lend a bike to he is the lowest risk person (least likely to crash) fact is I'm a greater risk than he is, and I still let myself ride my bikes. The next morning Eric H asked me to ride his bike home since had truck and bike there. so I rode about 20 miles of twisty bits in the rain on a super clean Le Mans I. Man, what was I thinking..."Don't drop this one!!!!" and I wasn't the one that dropped mine but sure felt like I did. all was good his bike got home safe. he got me back to my bike in his truck and then met up with Racer-X, Jedione, Thrimph Jim and Wallace, and had a great ride home on my dented bike. richr p.s. Oh if a friend asked me to borrow my bike the way yours did...it would of been Hell NO! you can't ride my bike!! and I think I've proven I'm pretty lax on letting "Qualified" friends ride my bikes.
  14. My question is, has anyone else had a fracture pelvis? How long till you can take the first walking steps? How much pain did you have? What to do when your back also goes out of alignment and causes you great pain from a pinched nerve. I can only sleep on my back at the moment, if I twist my legs with out twisting my hips, a sharp pain from my pelvic hits me (not a fun thing at all). Even with the meds I have for the pain, it is still quite sharp. Thanks all, Mike 61166[/snapback] Hi Mike, Man...sorry to hear of your fall. I haven't broken my pelvis but when they fixed my knee and were pulling out the metal rod from my bone Dr. said you can't take pain away from bone, just have to "tough it out" I sure was not happy about that! One of my friends did break his pelvis, he took a long time to heal, hopefully you will have a speedy rehab. richr
