  1. It is called "infant mortality" nowadays, and is a consideration in a "reliability centred maintenance program". It's not the whole story, but the effect is real. https://blog.aopa.org/aopa/2014/02/11/roots-of-rcm/

  2. A car enthusiast in the family passed along several magazines published by the Hagerty Classic Car Insurance Company. (They insure classic motorcycles as well.) I've been really enjoying the articles and features (Jay Leno writes for them and I've always enjoyed his motor-headed perspective). In the Nov/Dec 2018 issue, I ran across a piece by journalist, Aaron Robinson, referencing the "Waddington Effect" which discovered WWII British bombers suffered increased reliability problems after their scheduled inspection/maintenance. While I have observed this in motorcycling and other road vehicles, I felt reassured that others have also found this to be real. More support for my reluctance to take anything else apart on the Sport before the South'n Spine Raid in six weeks. ( I want to earn my " " back! ) Those of you in aviation, marine, and other fleet maintenance may have heard of Waddington, but this is my first exposure and his findings ring true with my experience, especially that of my recent wheel bearing failure. A couple summary quotes to kick off the discussion: “The rate of failure or repair is highest just after an inspection and thereafter falls, becoming constant after about 40-50 flying hours.” - CH Waddington “But the fact is that the inspection tends to increase breakdowns, and this can only be because it is doing positive harm by disturbing a reasonably satisfactory state of affairs.” - CH Waddington “It was as if the old parts were jealous of the new parts and chose to ruin it for everyone.” - Peter Darragh, Mariner-USA

  3. From the album: 2001 v11 SP

Worldwide ceramic bearings and Ti hardware. In silver, which is recognized the world over as the only color for a proper V11

  4. I learned from a Ducati guy just to turn them upside down. The hole disappears and the smooth top is even cleaner than the plug. Visible here with one of my "intermediate" speedometer solutions . . Also, if you have not already, slip a "Zip-tie" through the hollow lever pivot. If the weak spring steel nut drops off the bottom unnoticed, the pivot pin can jump out and take the lever (and your front brakes ) with it . . .

  6. I did 10k miles on mine with stock airbox/K&N filter. It was pretty well dialed in. I wrung my hands and cut the top off the lid. Without changing anything on the map, it feels...brighter. This of course says nothing about the performance of pods, but I rode my '85 LM1000 35,000 miles with pods and the maintenance just sucks nails. Dirty all the time, squash after being off 30 times, and the worst thing was when it rained hard (South Florida- once got 8 inches in 10 hours) the water interfered with airflow enough to richen the thing into nearly fouling plugs. So I never considered them on the Sport, since none of my bikes are "Fair weather only".

  10. Well the cracked gearbox case has been a factor. I need to visit a mate of mine to get it welded and i also need to get the side flow injectors cleaned and flow tested. Plus there's this little fellow (Merlin) thats arrived. I havent had a dog in a very very long time. Forgotten how much time goes into a puppy. More work than a toddler. Std Schnauzer btw. Ciao
