  1. I thought it was an interesting read. Roadster cycles.com. I'm toying with the idea of this unit since I found 4 old stock ones under the workbench. The part about a balanced system was good. As designed, the electrical system is balanced so that it only has to get rid of a couple of amps of unwanted power. When we start changing that we upset the "balance". All the stuff we do to reduce the the amount of energy our bikes consume upsets the balnce. LED headlights, running lights, etc...reduces the amount of power needed but increases the amount of amps that needs to be sent to ground and that in turn creates more heat. Now, I don't know what a good balance would be or even how to achieve it .....

  2. From memory normally the earth is made when the plunger is extended. Sounds like yours is the reverse. Put a meter on it and depress the plunger and compare it to the original. ciao

  4. Not good. Relay manufacturers will tell you to keep that stuff away from their relays. There is some chemistry involved, but I would never use dielectric grease on any bike that has relays, except for the spark plug boots. Period. Apparently, it can even cause gas that travels in the wiring harness and get to the relays.

  5. As well as getting relays failing, you can get poor pin retention, and/or pushed back sockets in the relay bases. See Kiwi_Roy's advice on fixing the relay bases. https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20534-relay-base-repair/&do=findComment&comment=172857

  6. Clean those connections (mounting block) with something like CRC Electronics Cleaner, and treat with "something like" Caig DeOxit®. (There is nothing like it.) Pull the relays straight out. Don't wind them around or you'll be repairing the tiny, flimsy connectors in the bases. Most importantly, install the GH8E in all positions, but especially #5.
