  1. Along the brake vein, the (nearing) 114,000 mile Sport got a fresh rear rotor and Bridgestone T31 today (32nd rear tire!). Fresh Brembo pads to bed the new rotor. All clinical and torqued and LocTited . . . wheel bearings checked out. Klüber Staburags on the drive hub. Thanks, Josh!!

  2. It arrived. It seems like a Coppa fairing. There are decal artifacts that indicate it had another decal looping under the red one..... Also, the silver paint looks original, the same shade as my '00 Sport. The part number MG 01.57.75.80 doesn't turn up anything, but since OEM parts generally start with "GU", it may be a Stucchi. It is ABS or some kind of thick plastic, not fiberglass. In any case, the headlight opening looks a little small for my Sport and its chrome headlight bezel, but I have to do a proper test fit. I am busy sorting my nearly-new Stelvio, so I'll get to it later......

  3. Docc et all, thanks for keeping the thread alive. I've been busy trying to rescue a Guzzi smallblock group ( MG 750 ) since Yahoo has decided to abandon its groups program. Joe

  6. I have made a couple of posts, but it was solely by way of introduction. Admired Guzzis from afar. Still have the '77 850 LeMans brochure. At the time I posted, I was looking at an '02 LeMans, and I wrote "because no one is selling a Ballabio." Well... wouldn't you know it, an '04 Ballabio came up on Craigslist shortly thereafter. Hmmm. Three hour drive but what the heck. The owner was, no surprise, a "mature" fellow. Had 20 bikes. RV. Airplane. Bad knees. Agreed to buy it on the spot. Garage queen with 4500 miles (no sign of replacement speedo cable). All records and the usual Guzzi spares, manuals, etc. Has fresh Pilot Roads, a Laminar Lip, MRA spoiler, Staintune cans, Hepco & Becker bags, a SS Aussie windage tray in a box and a few others. Trailered it home. It is cleaner now then the pics (when I can upload them, that is), as that is the proper thing to do. Pulled the bag mounts and MRA spoiler off. Low-mount pegs have to go. I have never owned a bike with pegs back far enough to suit me. They are "Motobits" forward/lowered style, but may not be that brand. OEM pegs came with it. Will have to find a pic of the OEM foot controls as installed, as it seems a few bits might have been reversed with the modded pegs. Has an LED Duc taillight. I just installed an LED headlight bulb after cleaning the haze from the inside of the headlight lens (assembly workers smoking?). Washed and waxed and rubber bits - not the tires - armoralled. Iridium plugs and now it fires off first press. Now it's raining. EDIT: Pics added. Oh, for any who may not know (not likely here) that little red tab behind the pegs is a centerstand. It needs some re-engineering, as it is only usable when the rear tire is rolled up onto a 2X4. Otherwise, there goes the back. Bike as it was. Bike with stuff. Basso profundo.

  7. Docc, i’ll Leave the lights on in my shop so you can come do your cleaning magic to my machines any time! Just a quick hop over the hills (intercontinental divide... whatever) from your place to mine. I’ve started the fall/winter process of chasing down the loose ends for winter mx. Got the data cables coming, will download guzzidiag, etc., but chewing on what to do about the lack of a rear hugger. Mostly to protect that rear shock. Better to chase down a stock hugger, or go try and find a Ghezzi-brian unit? I see the ghezzi unit on line but haven’t found a source yet to buy them, so don’t even know price. Any hot leads?

  9. Well, like spam spam spam eggs and spam, it's got silver in it. You can see it if you wear rose-colored glasses.

  10. Yeah, if it was the rare, desirable Silver, there would be 1.

  11. I;m assuming you have one of the later VIIs with the Start relay powered from the Ignition Switch Typically there is too much resistance in the ignition switch and it's associated wires. The Starter solenoid has two coils one that pulls 10 Amps and another that would like to draw 40 Amps but just for a few milliseconds while the solenoid engages and the main contact closes, This is such a common problem it's been named "Startus Interruptus", common to almost every other Guzzi right up to the latest. You need to clean the ignition switch every few years, take the switch block off the lock (2 Phillips screws) and open it up, wipe out the old grease and replace it with fresh Petroleum Jelly aka Vaseline. There is a permanent fix (strong feed) that requires a direct connection to the start relay 30 terminal from the battery but it also requires a different arrangement for the feed to the headlight relay, try cleaning the switch first. Drop the negative wire off the battery to make it safe. I think your problem with cutting out is possibly a dirty side stand switch, carry a short length of wire to stuff in the relay (15) socket 30-87, this will bypass the stand switch as a test. 12. Sudden dying usually sidestand switch. Good running interrupted by intermittent weirdness is usually a bad battery or ground, or both. Most of my electrical issues stopped when I conditioned the battery properly, (see Docc’s link above) with a proper charger and a new Odyssey battery.

  13. Make sure the neutral switch connector is seated on the left side of transmission. Just push it in and wiggle it. Same for the spark plug wires.

  14. These issues are typically multi-causal. Connections are always contributory: Main Ground (as czakky sez. He knows! ) Here's the "short list" . . . Best Relays Decent Tune-up Tank Off Maintenance Checklist (See, especially, the clutch switch "bullet connectors" . . . Those will give you the no start/-no prime/no click/nothing response from the start button. Try holding in the clutch lever and holding in the start button while rotating the bars lock-to-lock.) Odyssey PC545 Battery Conditioning Sorry I can't make it simpler. It-is-what-it-is, isn't it?

  15. Check your main ground! Clean and grease. Typically behind the seat lock.
