  1. That Redline heavy is tenacious stuff. It'll be hard to get rid of. I quit using it when I couldn't get it all to drain out of the rear drive and over filled it a bit when I "drained and measured.."

  2. Both the Veglia and ITI guages were made with these self lubricating plastic and metal gears which it was a matter of time they kerplunked. Then to serve us better Aprilia owned Moto Guzzi made them hard to get replacements. Oh, and they were inaccurate from the factory. Lol Speedhut makes both a tach and gps speedo. Not made for Guzzis but coincidentally can be fitted and used. Scud had them. They even match close to the Viglia or ITI dials. A lag on the speedo but works. Moral to my Hooplah: Just get Speedhuts. Don't waste your time getting replacement parts if you can't get it to work. I have a set just waiting for when my clocks self destruct.

  3. Yah, probably 500cc. Moto Guzzi made those from 1921 through the '70s! Left side has an exposed flywheel giving them the moniker "bacon slicer," a term I frankly find rather unbecoming. But not as disparaging as "pork chops" , which I find just ugly for our magnificent, even voluptuous, V11 Frame Side Plates.

  4. OTOH mine spit out 100cc from the rear drive through my thought-through but untested rear drive vent on my 10k tour and came home none the worse for wear with ~150cc in it. If it isn't broken down enough to drain out, it isn't broken down enough to want out, I figure. I've used about every high-end gear lube over the years, and never seen anything quite like the RedLine. I have to say though that I put ~35k miles on my LM1000 with Royal Purple gear oil in the drive and it also passed every test, including 5-10 miles of 90mph+ twice a day to work and back.

  5. Well to be fair, I remember my first guzzi and as I was getting familiar with it, I looked at the plug for the timing hole and figured that was where the tranny oil must go. Luckily I did rtfm, and I got the oil in the right place, but I thought at the time, I'm sure that others have made the same mistaken assumption, there's probably been a few out there, they're just being shy, lol. I've done the Varsol flush before on my CalVin for a slipping clutch problem, worked like a charm, my best ever mcgyver fix. I'll file docc's tip about removing the starter for next time, that sounds like a good plan. To the OP from experience, when you're whittling your wooden plug, don't use hardwood, I couldn't get it to seal well,,, the wood that worked was a piece of real cheap softwood, so the fibres swelled as it absorbed the solvent and sealed the hole. After I did two good rinses working the clutch, I took the bike out and abused the hell out of the clutch (fanning it many times)to get it good and hot and burn off any residue. Good luck Kelly

  6. I just scrolled 35 pages of ebayUS for ya, buddy. I think ya owe me a beer, already. Maybe Dramamine . . . Found a right side on page 19 that kept me goin' for a while longer. That's a seller in Florida with an 8700 mile 2001 Sport apart. I got a nice set of throttle bodies from them, but had to send the sketchy reardrive back. Professional outfit, though, and I found this after clicking on the right side listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/2001-Moto-Guzzi-V11-Sport-Rear-Left-Passenger-Foot-Peg/382918145903?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D60695%26meid%3D014b614a706f40ebb6193110965afb49%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dsb%26sd%3D382919774820%26itm%3D382918145903%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

  7. I can say that, yes, SpineFrames and Tonti were made concurrently. Spines were the sporty end and Tonti the cruisers (EV/ California and all those iterations) . . .

  8. If you haven't run the engine it's fine. Just flush the clutch compartment out with mineral spirits. You can plug the drain hole with a little piece of wood or plastic, then add a quart of spirits, wobble around as much as you can for a minute and drain it. What little lube stays stuck will be absorbed in the dust and be covered by new dust. Worst possible case is you find it's invaded the friction surfaces (shouldn't have, really, unless you pulled the clutch lever while the compartment was full) and you have to change the clutch, which is your only other option now anyway. Give it a shot. BTW, the hole you're looking into is for timing the engine. There are flywheel marks to use with a timing light.

  9. I decided to change the gear oil on my new to me 2000 V11 Sport. The draining went well aided by a home made funnel. While adding the new gear oil it started leaking profusely. What is going on here? The gear oil is redline heavy: https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Moto-Guzzi-V11-Sport/i-vf4TF75/0/56ba2fc0/S/IMG_20191110_122508-S.jpg I added it here: https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Moto-Guzzi-V11-Sport/i-kdwshCf/0/e4acf26a/S/IMG_20191110_122548-S.jpg And this is the leak. I noticed it ASAP above the oil drain plug and it appears all i added has leaked. https://photos.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Moto-Guzzi-V11-Sport/i-gz9khfg/0/3cce1c36/L/IMG_20191110_122449-L.jpg What I am doing wrong?
