  1. I have a 1988 Civic base hatchback that I got for free. I tell you, the thrill of 68 HP pressing you back in the seat, and 4-on-the-floor is incredible!

  2. That's the sound of big cams with lots of overlap and high compression, I love that cranky loping idle of an old fashioned performance engine. They sound ANGRY. The other thing they do is they like to rev. Old school worked engines just want to climb onto the cam and rev. Modern engines are better in just about every way imaginable but they seldom give you that hairs standing on end feeling. I'd love to get to Goodwood one day but for now I'll need to be satisfied with the best Post Classic event in the world at Phillip Island this weekend. Ex AMA multi Superbike Champ Josh hayes and his Wife ex US Supersport Champion Melissa Paris will be racing along with stars from Australia,England,New Zealand. Best part.....everyone gets to wander around the pits and chat to these guys and I get to catch up with some racing friends. looking forward to it. Cars, oh yea hears mine. Ciao

  3. these are what you need. Don't waste your time with anything else. These metal core/base gaskets are light years ahead of anything else even fancy silicon gaskets thats why modern engines all use them where gaskets are required. May as well take advantage of new technology such as it is them being around for like 20 years. Ciao

  5. So I got tired of trying to find a paint match for the Greenie frame. Did a lot of research mainly historical here and on the interweb and anything that was suggested as really good wasnt available here so I went bugger it and got 500ml of 2 pack matched. My r/h pork chop was faded and polishing it didnt help so I thought now was the time to address it. The main frame isnt too bad and I need to paint the front frame support where I removed the horn and regulator bracket as well. Here's the result from an automotive paint supply places special machine. The top 10mm where my fingerprint is (doh) is the new paint. Good enough for me. I asked if he could cross reference what the machine came up with to a code or particular car model with the same shade. Unfortunately not. With the piece in your hand its only the surface finish due to my fingerprint that gives it away, the colour is as close to perfect as you'll get. BTW the guy didnt tell me about the wet area just handed it back to me with the tin of paint. Must be some old paint guys party trick:) Ciao

  7. Have been watching the progress of a bloke in Oregon refurbing a Vincent Rapide. Cueing up the "first start" video, I note in the opening shot that the man (or his friends) has excellent taste. In fact, it might leave you greenie with envy... Is it one of us???

  8. My first oil leak (I think, I hope!) just started recently, originating from the lower edge of the left cylinder valve cover. I checked the bolts, which were not loose, but not tightened very well at the bottom. I torqued them down, but no cigar, the leak continued. Removal of the cover revealed the problem: Close up of the culprit: It appears that with the lower bolts not properly tightened, the gasket edge migrated away from the mating surfaces to the inside until a flow path was opened. So this leads to a few questions. If repositioning the gasket fails (which I anticipate), where is the quickest and/or cheapest place to get a replacement gasket, or would I be as well off to cut my own from stock gasket material? Also, I noticed all the hold down bolts were the same size except the top rear bolt, which is markedly shorter. Is this correct, or a Bubba mistake? Also one and only one steel washer dropped free from one of the bolt seats. Should all, some or none of these Allen head hold down bolts use washers? TIA for any and all enlightenment!

  13. Isn't that an old MG Magnette two toned sedan across the street? Had one of those in my hippie days in Venice. Abandoned it one morning on Pacific Coast Highway in El Segundo on my way to work. Ran out of starter fluid.

  17. I've installed the WebCam 86b in my '85 LMIV. .447/.447 298°/298° 260°/260° 86b Though this cam has numbers very similar to the Megacycle 620x7, it has very, very good street manners and low rpm tractability. I haven't dialed in the top end yet, but it's already considerably faster above 5k rpm than my stock Sport i. The difference that doesn't show in the numbers is that the Web cam requires larger diameter lifters, because the lift rate is faster sooner than the Meg cam; that means the valve opens more 'curtain area' (exposed area between valve and seat) sooner in the cycle, and flowing more air off-peak. That translates into not only equal or better performance at peak rpm, but better characteristics off peak and smoother power curve throughout the range. I can't leave well enough alone, and the work and expense of installing the Web probably wasn't worth it simply for the improvement difference (never rode the Megacycle so I'm speculating) but it was as much an academic exercise as anything. The roller rockers need a bunch more valve spring to get to peak power, with R&D springs it's limited to 7k rpm before losing valve control. Here's a pic album showing the restoration with pics of what I had to do to install it. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipP6lOTNerG1sbqs9QkvBwZIQSc6AvZKZD28FDiehtuVaPt8g8hU3yUGBNH2MFwddQ?key=MTgwQ05SWlZyeW9scDZIdHNHdUw4Z2NIaXptWnZR
