Hello, V11 aficionados! This thread is about me and my Greenie. Good days and bad days. A steep learning curve, maintenance, and later on some tuning and styling. I bought the '00 V11 Greenie on the last day of August 2019. A friend drove me from Gausdal to Stryn, and I drove home on the bike. My first trip on a Guzzi since I sold the V65 Lario in 1995. 300 km in cold weather, rain, and sun. I enjoyed every moment, every curve. Right now I'm doing the long overdue winter maintenance. There are quite a lot of things to fix, inspect and enhance. I have a long list. I will be grateful for every comment. Flickr album is here4 points

Isn't that like asking what a Scotsman wears under his kilt, or an Irish roadracer wears under his leathers? (Okay, okay, my brackets are inboard like NicoNZ's)3 points

I heard a Laverda triple w/a flat plane crank one time ....... It was a religious experience !3 points

And, here, I thought my wee CRG quite sweet. More like *tassles* on Cindy Crawford. Sure, "objects are (waaay) closer than they appear", but you can still tell it's a cop car when the blue lights come on!2 points

Yeah, while I like the V twin of a Guzzi there is something special about a triple. And one that likes to rev can be amazing. The new Yamaha triple is nice, I also looked at an FJ09. I certainly would not mind owning one. The Triumph Street Triple is my favorite based on what I know of them. But I have not rode one yet as I don't want to know what I am missing. A little triple that revs over 12,000 rpm, what's not to like. Parallel twins have a nice cadence to them as well. But I think a triple is my favorite motorcycle engine configuration. A very close second is a V4. Then there was the guy who built his own V8 by siamesing two 400cc inline 4's together. That must sound fantastic. And yes on the Laverda.2 points

May I say that the downfall of this "thread" is that there is no "topic." So, NicoNZ ( and others), please feel free(er) to start your own thread/topic about your individual build and learning experiences. Specific topic titles are easier to search for others later. For example, "Clutch Chatter" is a better topic title than something like, "WTF?" FWIW, I don't hear anything "bad" in that brief video. Maybe some wee exhaust leaks? (Those will totally mess up a V11 . . .)2 points

Fairly new member here. Joined a while ago but have never taken the time to look around and I am not sure I should have! I have a cafe sport that is up on the lift for a bit of maintenance. Bought it a year ago with 60k km. Now at 64. After navigating my way around here the list of required work is getting longer. So what did I do today? I drained the differential oil in preparation for removal so I can correct the drive shaft phasing and correctly grease the U joints. After reading the recent posts on this thread on clutch wear I am considering pulling the transmission to inspect mine. It has a fairly loud clatter which I am sure is the clutch when it is disengaged (clutch lever out). Makes me think something is loose in there that shouldn't be. Maybe I should have started a new thread as i managed to get a bit off topic. Youtube Link Could be a long maintenance job list. Ciao Nick2 points

Simple as that! Tak/thanks, Niels. I don't understand why people order this TPS breakout cable from overseas, and pays $50(!) in shipping? Too lazy for soldering? dkvolt.dk also has an almost complete cable for DKK 36,- ($4)2 points

Very nice bikes except for the hideous bar end mirrors. Why the hell people run these I have no idea, they look bad and just add width to the bike you dont want. Like putting big rubber ears on Cindy Crawford. I ran a single bar end mirror on my Hailwood Ducati back in the 80's and was never happy about it but you couldn't buy nice std mount aftermarket mirrors back then and the Ducati mirrors were cheap rubbish. You can now though. look at the Rizoma mirrors on my bike, beautifully made small and discrete but still useful, almost perfect. Ditch those things, no excuses for flappy ears on a bike these days. Just had to dig this thread up, where Docc found that valve clearances opened up slightly when hot vs common sense that says they would close up. Great resource of info.1 point

+1 on enjoying the photo album! I just have to link hammershaug's thread "Greenie going down" that chronicles his "pulling" his Greenie into it's winter shop space . . .1 point

I seem to recall the OEM aluminum emblem can be gently shaped to the curve. Clean that surface really well and the adhesive holds up surprisingly well. Yet, it is not unheard of that they go missing . . . No criticism, just an observation. These "catch-all" threads see alot of traffic and some great posts. OP Scud also kind of originated the idea of the Dedicated Build Thread. That the current owner of his Greenie, KINDOY2, has that thread for reference is just terrific. Looking forward to your thread, hammershaug!1 point

I think so. I'm no expert, but I think this is pretty common behavior.1 point

Nico, my clutch makes the same loud rattle when pulling in the lever / disengaged. It goes away and becomes quiet immediately when releasing the lever / engaged. This is normal for the Guzzi dry clutch, no? Does the rattle persist on yours after the clutch is engaged?1 point

Yeah, it's a go. Hi, Phillip.. when you contacted me, you said 2 if necessary. It's now not necessary. Do you just want 1?1 point

Ok, thats a surprise. It must have some residual pressure in the lines as it only runs for a few seconds. I wonder how long after the last time the pump ran did he do this. I surprised the system holds pressure for any time at all after the pump shuts off. The pump would need a check valve in it to achieve that. I can see how dumping the line pressure would assist uncoupling the fittings though. Thanks. Ciao1 point

Ha ha I'm actually on 2 weeks annual leave at the moment but confined to barracks due to this bloody virus and lockdown! It's week two and Jeezus i'd love to get out for a ride!. Especially when you sit here in the study looking out on a bright sunny 8 degree ( c ) morning! Hmm I'll have to keep working on my excuse ( s ) me thinks. At least I can ride to work next Monday. Hang in there though folks as the isolation caper seems to be working here in Oz and hopefully will do in your world as well. Cheers Guzzler Ps it's a worry when the highlight of the week is a visit to the supermarket eh!!1 point

Well I got down to the Gearbox and no cracks! Also picked up some replacement cans and a head guard from Gary Saks in Mission. So now I need a left hand foot peg and a gearshift lever, plus a black Brembo adjustable clutch lever. Between Harpers and MG I can find both but with the border being closed it may be a trip to International Motorsports and wait for Piaggio to deliver- eventually. I will also post in items wanted to see if anyone has them “lying around” but otherwise may have to bend over and pay the postage etc.1 point

My 20-ish year old aerostitch road crafter jacket has now been through an “overhaul”, where I spent the price of a new, cheaper jacket to just get the trusty old stitch redone. Overall worth while. Did the same with the pants a while back, and they came out perfect, but not so much with the jacket. Velcro still isn’t right (when “tightening” things up when it gets cold), zipper now creeps down from wind force which is really annoying (almost impossible to zip it back up if it gets too far down while riding at speed), and some other little issues that are annoying me. All fine, but on the hunt for a new jacket. Boy was I surprised to see what a lot of higher end jackets sell for now! I used to think aerostitch was the expensive end of things... I heard and have experienced a bit of how Dainese can fit skinny guys like me, so ordered two jackets to try. Both were ok fits, but at those prices they need to be perfect(I think one was $450 and one was $800. Of course the $800 jacket fit better... but I looked like a stormtrooper). And I know now that jackets can get even way more spendy than that. So am on the casual lookout for the elusive “perfect jacket”, rarely seen in the wild, but purported to exist. Can vent, be mostly water proof (dont need 100%, as that’s fiction, and I carry a slicker/pullover for real rain), longer length so it doesn’t crawl up my back, good neck closure, does NOT use a zip in liner (hate those), and skinny/tall man fit. Basically the roadcrafter, but hopefully lighter weight.... I’ve grown lazy and weary of packing that stitch all over when I travel... it needs its own suitcase!1 point

I could see myself saying the same thing... and I did acquire a a small (850) triple. Yamaha FJ09. A great revving and glorious sounding motor. Just something about a triple.1 point
