I have a 2002 Le Mans red & gray acquired just last week, the bike is well sorted with many extras and upgrades, has 51K miles. Now sorting the paper work to get it on the road. My previous Guzzi was a 2007 Griso 1100, and I frequented the Guzzi Tech forum. Hoping there will be an IMOC meet (Sturbridge MA) this year ... Kurt2 points

Yes - the Stucchi flyscreen (as per Kane's pic) was offered together with Tekno bags AND a very nice (Italian) leather jacket when I purchased my greenie new from the dealer in 2001 (2000 MY) - I still have the promotional flyer in a file as part of the documented history ...2 points

I wonder if it was a titanium can wrapped in carbon fiber looking stuff or a steel can (maybe stainless). At that weight it would have to be some pretty thin steel I would think. The other option would be an aluminum can. That is a possibility. The wife's cans have a metal tag riveted on them saying "Not For Street Use".1 point

Makes sense, docc. They are 'straight through' pipes. Like telescopes without lenses. I can see from one end to the other (sans magnification). They're throaty, but not obnoxious. My brother in California says that the type of pipe is not legal in his state. My 2000 V11 had these pipes on it when I bought it. I didn't know if they were stock or aftermarket. From what you're describing, they're obviously add-ons. They sound better than the exhaust I bought from 4Corsa. And half the weight as well. The cf is def a veneer. I peeled it off the old pipes; tapped and plugged the two holes that must have been meant for attaching a logo with ss screws. More better.1 point

I just happed to have a pair of the NGK caps in my box of spares and I have read on various models about the problematic caps. I have not read of bad caps on the V11's and that was one of my questions, are they problematic? I have replaced the caps on a few of my other bikes that have solid core wires and usually I just replace the plug end because it is much more frequently pulled on and off, while the coil end is rarely disturbed. I like the nice solid feel of the NGK cap on the threaded plug end.1 point

largely true for the British although remember the Vincent came back post war and the Europeans were making plenty withing 25 years or so after they recovered from the war. It's hard to make judgements like this for a number of reasons primarily because of the economic dislocation after WW2 esp in Britain. Money poured into Europe to rebuild and hedge against the Russians and Communism and Britain had a war debt to pay the US. Having said all that the British motorcycle manufacturers were totally hopeless post war in just about every way, from production, to economic management. All the money went on Oak lined board rooms, Company Roll Royces and big salaries for the management instead of R&D and new machinery. Remember the Japanese didn't have any problems with construction costs producing the Honda 4 in the late 60's early 70's from a clean sheet when the British were pumping out twins whose designs dated back to the 50's and before and the Americans were making Harleys still. I've owned 3 Aprilia V twins ( all RSV1000's. 2 R's and a std RSV) and been inside them a few times including club racing bikes and they are bullet proof. If it blew up to that extent I can pretty much guarantee you it was an owner/operator issue. As for real power a Ducati Panagale makes close to 200 HP. A de-tuned one making 150 would be pretty docile for a sports tourer if they had the inclination. Ciao1 point

Worked on the Showa fork seals with the MotionPro 'sealmate'. Once I got the hang of it it worked well. However I couldn't get all the way round the fork leg. Bent over double & with a flashlight could see the seal had torn & folded under the seal lip. Hence the large amount of oil recently. The seal mate surprisingly was strong enough to pull the damaged part of rubber from under the seal. Cleaned up the mess & went for a ride. So far it's working as it should. But knowing that it won't last I've decided to get all the tools needed from Traxxion to replace the seal myself. Can't have too many tools. Thanks for the link to the Ohlins rebuild Chuck, it makes more sense now that I have opened up the Showas's1 point

I did not know about the jackets, or would had to have had one! The only promo materials I saw for the accessories were photocopies of the products my dealer had at the time (2000). Part of the reason I bought every available accessory was dedication to the brand and a devotion to the Sport itself, but also to support my dealer.1 point

PS ... (and +1 re Phil's clarification) here is a pic of the "dealer package" jacket (that came with flyscreen and teknos) ... like the bike - some patina, but still in great shape after almost 20 years and just under 100k(ms) ... only available in choice of yellow or red at the time (no green!) ... so I chose red and received yellow - which was probably a better choice anyway. As far as colour-matching goes - my understanding is that these early flyscreens used the same production line paint as other body parts - so perhaps Stucchi made some of those for MG also ..? All good history ... although still searching for a good second home for the bike ...1 point

This is where the wording is important. If it's labelled a "factory option" or Option then like docc that to me means it's an offering by the factory either fitted to the bike when ordered new or in a Guzzi option catalogue. Anything else is an accessory or an aftermarket accessory. Sometimes the semantics does lead you down the wrong path when searching for enhancements for old bikes and trying to work out if it was an OEM offering or aftermarket. Ciao1 point

There was a "factory" colour-matched fly-screen option with the original greenies (made by Stucci ??) but not available for many years now ... I sold the one that came with mine a few months ago to a fellow greenie owner in Toronto (as have the Magni fitted) ...1 point

I wrecked my knees on the hood of a Pontiac in 1980. My doctor told me ten years ago "You needed new knees years ago". I attribute my ability to get around as well as I do to cycling. If I go a couple months without regular bicycling (for you jokers) I knot up, cramp up and suffer. Cycling is zero impact and high range-of-motion exercise. It's important to get comfortable with clip-in pedals, so you can involve your hamstrings and hip flexors in a balanced effort. I'll second the Magnesium as well, Potassium doesn't seem to help with cramps but Magnesium does. Also, if you have lower back pain, try rolling a towel and using it under your lower back area, even if you're a side sleeper to keep your spine straight. A soft mattress kills me after 3-4 nights, so consider that; if you have a very soft mattress, consider sleeping on the sofa or try putting the couch cushions on the floor and sleeping on them, see if that doesn't help significantly.1 point

Heykes everyone, Recently signed up for the forum. I live in Belgium and as a read in this form, I'm one of the new owners that always loved the V11 Le Mans since it came out. Never had the budget to purchasing oneuntil.... I own my 'beast', 2002 model, for two years now. It had just 18000km on it. Now with 32500km I'm still in love. With my son and the buddies of the Guzzi club Belgium (MGCB) we do a lot of trips. It's good to read that the hiccups between 3k-4k are quite normal for the standard model. It can be fixed :-)1 point
