  1. A quick update. I received my speedo back from Joel Levine this afternoon. Prior to shipping he explained that the V11 speedo is a Chinese replica of a basic Japanese speedo but made with cheap materials. Apparently there is/was a Chinese factory in Italy manufacturing these IT speedos. He rebuilds the Guzzi speedos with refurbished Japanese parts. Long story short, I reinstalled and it appears to be running fine following a spirited 20 minute ride. So all good on the speedo front. Also, the trip meter knob sold on MG Cycles is a perfect OEM fit where mine was broken. Now to solve the intermittent starting issue! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  3. Oh, my no. A fellow I know who gave me permission to get that close. Maybe the most beautiful Alfa ever, the Sprint Speciale by Bertone. Or, as my friend likes to say, “Bert One.”

  4. The Hyperpro looks good but dont exclude Wilbers as an option. I've worked on Ohlins (Proper race Ohlins as well as the "production" ones) Penske, Marzocchi, Bitubo and the std stuff and the Wilbers is a high quality unit they will build to a spec for your use and weight. I've run one for years. Just putting it out there as another option. Ciao

  5. Aw . . . . seems to be a lot of that going around these days. Lay in a course for next year, the South'n SpineRaid's 7'teenth and Moto Guzzi's Centesimo! We're gonna have a big blow out (not really) and pull out all the stops (not really doing anything differently). Well, okay, maybe we'll bring more tools . . .

  9. Guy's When are you going to do a REAL Southern Spine raid ?? Like the Southern hemisphere per chance!! You could call it the EXTREME Southern Spine Raid perhaps ? Seriously though, hope the planets align and it's a goer for you all.Have a bloody good time and enjoy it eh. It would be a hoot to be able to be there and catch up for a ride and a few sherbets afterwards. Take plenty of photos for us down here eh!! Cheers Guzzler

  10. I hear you about getting outa the rat race mate.It seems to be getting crazier all the time! We did several road trips and looked around all over before we made the move so it wasn't a hasty decision. I still work and didn't want to retire just yet so in the end settled for something commutable to Dandenong. The fact that we fell in love with where we are and the wee town of Drouin was icing on the cake eh.We're basically an hour from the snow, same from the beach and same from our families. It's funny I always felt an affinity with Gippsland, don't know why.I'm not a native either being a Kiwi, maybe it reminds me of NZ or something? Ha ha. I know the weathers a bit all over the place but I kinda like having 4 seasons , must be the Kiwi in me, I'm from CHCH so know all about changeable weather! Funny you mention your daughter coming down.My wife was hell bent on us moving to Tassie, but I kept telling her wait till we see grandkids as although close we'd not see them as often as we can when you can just jump in the car and drive for an hour.We now have 3 and it's bloody good to able to see them so easily.Well not at the moment but this lockdown won't last. Anyways mate good luck with your possible Escape from the city if you chose to do so. Cheers Guzzler.

  12. I think the replacement switches are about $60. The wiring appears clean and straight. I did replace the Alt cover with a CF one a few months ago. I'll check and take a look at the wiring and see if it's bound up. My bigger concern was that the switch would cause a no-start and strand me somewhere. My EV had the switch defeated when I bought it '08. I assumed it was a common issue and riders just hot wired the switch. Apparently mine hot wired itself.

  14. I have a feeling this is the owner or an employee of CitizenShipper... he used a disposable email address to sign up. But hey, if you are looking for a bike shipper, maybe this is an option.

  16. Phil, those switches were unreliable and folks were stranded and couldn't start their bikes. So they they hot wired them. Pretty typical on many Guzzis. As I said I purchased the EV and it was already done. Now my Sport did it on it's own. I guess I'd rather not have it rather than have it strand me.

  22. The crazy thing with Mav and his crash is the back story. It seems Brembo told all the teams to use a new brake set up due to issues at the first round in Austria. Mav (and one other guy, Rins I believe) and his team decided they would use the old set up. It started failing, and he stayed out. He stayed out on track in a race where he knew his brakes were failing. It is just dumb luck that he or no one else was injured or worse when the eventual crash happened. That was a pretty bad lapse in judgement.

  23. I have been researching R230's for a few years. Almost had a pristine 10k mile SL55 in my grasp but it had too many issues so I let it go. Ended up with a real nice 09 SL550 instead in retina melting Mars Red :-).

  24. Ok will do. I'd love to do a tree change and it's on the cards. I'd just like to get out of the city/suburbs even though i'm on the north east fringe now I'd rather be in the "country" I'd like to move back to the south coast of NSW near the sea for the nicer winter weather. I'm from Sydney originally and now I'm retired I'm sick of the grey overcast Melbourne winter weather. The temps dont bother me but the lack of sunny days sure does. However my eldest daughter is moving down so that plans out the window I think.I'm looking for a nice country town in Victoria with good services and sunny winter weather an acre of land and near the water if possible. I need to be on that show myself. Ciao

  25. Yes well it was great. One of the wires had been sitting down in the swingarm area naked to the eye. The last thing I did was put the battery frame and battery in so with this wire coming from a different direction..I am sure its the main earth to the gearbox I couldn't. I couldn't see it due to the bodywork and everything else masking my view. Once the battery frame was out I could just make out the wire so pulled at it and sure enough she is all go again. Thanks for all your help.....feeling stupid but I can confirm that there are three positive and three negative leads to the battery on the 03 model.....which I will not forget again!! Ciao Nick

  27. The rear caliper on the Daytona race bike pictured is free to rotate on bearings on the axle same as the bevel box. Its just an inverted version of the bevel box and the torque is provided by the brake not the engine driven shaft. This is a bike I built from the ground up in the early 1980's with my own designed and built anti dive which we thought was worth having at the time. I also built all the bodywork including the original plugs and moulds. The dive mechanism is a leveraged version of a brake torque arm. Chuck might like the red engine cases. I was very avant garde back then:) Ciao
