Yes Chuck, time to move on.......onto the Lucky Phil "Eazy Glide" manual fuel tap mod for the USA members. I mean you have nothing else on do you Chuck? I had the tank off my bike again the other day and the shear pleasure to be had from reaching in there and turning the tap off and it seal perfectly without any effort or the use of pliers etc was very rewarding. The tach is fed through relay #2 (from the front). Make sure those contacts are clean and consider installing a full set of “Best Relays” . . . ( OMRON G8HE )2 points

Indeed, please support the engine on the front when you do this. It is doable by rotating the front subframe forward, BUT. I did this and snapped the inlet of the fuel pump right off. You don't really feel the resistance of the hose and it is very brittle.2 points

That was halfway (300 of 600 miles ) to Spine Raid. Have a camper in the mountains on a creek that I use as my getaway pad to sleep and ride from since my "home" is in the flat lands of Eastern VA. I was just burning up some tree limbs after riding dirt bike THEN drinking a few cold ones. One thing led to another and the few cold ones lit the idea of "why not a fire?"1 point

I think i just had a longer-winded way of saying the same? my '16 Multi enduro is magnficent in most every category that i care about, but apples and oranges to the older italians i have (or had). Since the OP was talking 900SS vs V11, i just poorly attempted to steer my comments back in that direction :-) And MZNYC, i'd 2nd that notion, albeit only loosely, in that the 2v 904 in the old Monster and the Gran Canyon has "feel" of power that does NOT match with the low actual dyno numbers, nor the (heavier than one would think) weights. Fuel delivery and just general rounded power band are great, and very little if any fiddling with mapping is needed (for the few i've had).1 point

docc, MartyNZ & Kiwi Roy (our resident electrical consultant) have nailed it I'm not sure about your running light statement and fail to understand it. On my computer the link to the wiring diagram is also broken. It's due to the rather Heath Robinson (if you know who he is) circuit that Guzzi used linking the circuit for the warning bulb, it's quite clever and works if you don't change anything but if you modify it, then strange things happen Everything will work with the warning light removed as you state. If you want to use LED indicators then you'll need to replace the flasher relay with an electronic unit or resistors. Resistors are horrible and a bit hit and miss, besides the flasher unit will probably cost less than 4 resistors (which may or may not work, at least on first try) If you want the warning light to work as well as the electronic relay you'll need to modify the warning light circuit too. You can try the back to back LED trick, I've never tried that but it should work for the warning light. What I did when replacing the incandescent bulbs with LEDs on both a Sport and a Daytona (the wiring circuits are the same for the V11) was to use Roy's 3rd sketch. You disconnect both wires going to the warning light. Then solder in Diodes the sliver ring on the Diode should point toward the warning light (or away from the exisitng wire). Join then the 2 diodes, or the wires leading from the diodes, together and connect them to the non blocking side of the LED warning light (easy to test that, try one side if it doesn't work try the other) Make a direct connection to earth on the other side of the LED. Roy's 3rd diagram shows it in diagram form which is easier to understand. Both Italian? I fired up my Ducati yesterday. It's eerily smooth although it sounds like it should shake. There is a big difference between the 90 and the 45. My brother is selling the V11 Sport (it's on eBay) as he prefers his Ducati. Having ridden his I can see the appeal. Revs to the moon and feels a lot lighter. But I'll stay with the Guzzi because it's a little rough and pudgy, like me.1 point

I don't have an SS, but I have a M900 which... is sort of like an SS with no bodywork... if you close one eye and squint 😂 The Ducati is significantly lighter. The Guzzi is significantly easier to do a valve adjustment on. 😂 I like 'em both. Someday, I hope to get my Ducati back on the road (its been sitting too long for various reasons non-bike-related, and now needs some good TLC to get back into proper order). The V11S is the bike I would never sell, though. __Jason1 point

Gears are better than chains in every way but one- noise. Gears are noisy, chains are quiet. So any bike that has to pass any sort of noise test (EPA here) benefits from using a cam chain instead of gears. Even HD went to chains in their big twins, because they trade the cam noise for exhaust/intake noise. Functionally? Probably not noticeable, if the chain is good and the tensioner is adequate. Still, I'll have a set in mine eventually, because riding an Italian motorcycle and asking why something makes sense is a silly thing.1 point

Mille probably used the Motoplat ignition which had electronic advance of a very unsophisticated type. It retarded the spark for starting but as soon as the engine fired it went to a quite high idle advance. Problem always was if it stalled you had to turn the ignition off to re-set it. Failing to do so and trying to start it would result in fireworks and carbs exiting stage right! As for the spark 'Wandering' due to a slack chain? Yes, it can definitely be a problem. Commonly known as 'Scatter' you can mark the flywheel and then watch the mark with a strobe. While at higher speeds and loads there may be negligible scatter, at lower speeds and light loads (especially with the horrid 'Flappy Foot' tensioner) you'll see the mark jump about like a monkey with St. Vitus Dance! More than enough to make the ECU have a brain fart. Pete1 point

Well . . . I have chased many a Nasty Hiccup on the old Sport. Right now, I am closing in on my next 5,000 mile tune-up/oil change at 110,000 miles. She is just running so fabulously! I can get her to lug at 2,000-2,500 if I coax her into it, but I feel like I'm making my tango chick stuff herself into a waltz. Sure, she'll do it, but it kinda pisses her off.1 point

Elegance, engineering purity? You may as well ask Ducati why they bothered with that lovely bevel drive system on their old twins, or their continued adoption of Desmo valve gear or MV Agusta on why they bothered with silly gear driven cams on their road and race bikes or Honda on their VFR series or Rolls Royce for using shaft driven bevel gears on a Merlin engine. If you need to ask then you probably wont understand the answer Always found chains are best left for the bedroom activities Ciao1 point
