Daytona 1988. Guzzi content at last. If you ever wondered what 5am practice was like at the TT, here you go. Lining up in the paddock for an early morning practice session. More work on the bike at the TT. Here the 750 engine is fitted for the Senior race and we have the cylinders off on the 600 engine. Got a fan club as well by the looks. Here's the bike after the Senior race. Axle the bikes owner in the brown top with the video camera. The guy in the blue sweater is John Williams who raced a GSXR750 proddy bike that year and in the yellow t-shirt is Richard Scott a Kiwi racer that came out to Australia in the early 80's and eventually went on to ride GP500's for Kenney Roberts the next year in 87. Needless to say he was a rather good rider. Here's an image of our rider Pete Muir on the right about go out for the Formula 2 race. The rider on the left is Steve Murray who I crewed for a couple of years before in 84. Steve had been racing at the IOM for years and was at this time 54 I believe and still doing 110 mph laps on a F2 bike. His son is in the background with his bike, a TZ250 Yamaha that used RD250 crankcases as was the requirement for F2 in that the engine needed to be derived from a road bike. A TZ250 with a kickstart shaft in reality. Terrific bloke Steve an ex coal miner before working in the motorcycle industry. He was describing working in a mine and told me "it was so dark you couldn't see your hand behind your back", still cracks me up . He even went to race in Daytona back in the early 750's if I remember correctly. Here one for you guys in the States, Fred Merkel, 1988 WSB Champion (the first year it was run from memory) at the WSB round 1989 Oran Park Australia. BP corner onto the straight. I got my scanner working today and decided to scan some old racing images. Here's yours truly in the grey top and jeans at the 86 IOM TT during one of the pit stops in the Senior race Marco "Lucky" Lucchinelli in the pits at the Aussie round of the WSB 1989. He was team manager that year. The rider that same year was Raymond Roche

I thought maybe it was just a static display, but I see a chain off the gearbox output shaft. Probably a traditional Big Daddy Ed Roth shift pattern . . .

They look well made. Nice that they are plug and play with the resistor 'kit' It would be nice to know what size resistor would accomplish this as simply as they have done. Without having to dive into the dash panel and fiddle with the idiot light or solder something somewhere to make them flash. I did buy some recommended units for that but they were quite large, encased in alm, and got very hot. I threw them out. If someone with electrical wherewithal could recommend a size to begin experimenting with, I'll give it a shot. We know that stuff is cheap and many of us would run LED signals if it were that easy. At the moment I run LED on the rear with my tail tidy and some semi-acceptable small incandescent ones up front, with a different flasher. Works fine but would like to use the LED all round. Would LED units with differing numbers of D's require different resistance? I have some with 6 and some with 10.

Cleaned up nicely! I love old wood, so would be trying to preserve some panels, beams or structural members. Makes such a great backdrop for the photo shoots. (I also get the "brighten it up" thing . . . . so maybe just keep the wood up front toward the doors?) She looks quite happy in her new digs!

I think someone in the group here has used the moto science signals and/or mirrors? If so, any comments? Thinking of messing with “upgrading” the stock signals. I’ve just never loved the large, plastic stock units, and since this winter i have less “normal” work to do on the bike, i may indulge myself with something like a signal and mirror upgrade/change. This particular set seems to stay within the general look of the stock pieces, but arguably cleans it up a bit. I used this company for mirror upgrades on my son’s Gran Canyon, and was very pleased with the results of that simple project (easy thrills... insert money into process, receive parts, bolt-on, smile)

Great synopsis Docc, and good points. My personal experience with a suspension swap shows Ohlins is clearly better "off the shelf" than the stock unit. Regarding Guzzi spec Ohlins, ...idk for sure but when my '03 Ohlins were rebuilt at Ducati Indy by Matt Carr, a Duc and Ohlins certified tech, he said he could tell no differences, when asked directly, and that they took standard Ohlins service parts. I don't know why they would build a cheaper/lower quality piece for MG, but it's possible. I do know that '02 Guzzi spec Ohlins differ from '03 and up.

That would be a personal opinion . I do know I would like to have one with Ohlins suspension to see if they are all that . There is one thing I KNOW , every time I get near my bikes , I cannot see why these bikes are not in everyone's garage .
