Ditto on removing the cowl to avoid scratching..they scratch easilyand that one has/had no scratches ( not that difficult to remove like 6 easy access bolts)3 points

yes reverse the brackets so the 2 reinforced mounting holes are forward. They attach to the muffler hanger frame mounting points. Install those first. You'll need longer bolts as I recall to get through everything. I had to remove the rear seat cowel to not damage it getting the bolts in/out. Once the brackets are on, attach rack.3 points

Sorry to open an old thread but thought I would carry on with the story. So, it's now 2021, Covid and retirement has given me time to get back to the Ducati 750GT motor rebuild. Some inheritance money has enabled my brother and I to spend a little more than we intended on the bike. Bought a Machine Mart bead blasting cabinet and started to clean up the castings. The raised threaded section on the LH case for the clutch adjuster was broken. Also the RH side case support for the kickstart was broken off. Took them to a welder who complained about my using glass beads as they remain embedded in the metal and ruin his weld so he will have them vapour blasted. Lesson learnt I have now bought some soda blasting medium and recleaned the rest of the parts, at least that just washes off with water. Then found the bevel gear fitted to the crank had chipped teeth. It seems it is a weak part on the 750GT design, any wear and then play in the main bearings mean the bevel gear loses its precise engagement and causes the damage. The later 860 engine has a different layout with a conventional spur gear driving a lay shaft with the bevel gear, any crank endfloat just makes the spur gear slide in and out without upsetting the bevel gear. Luckily managed to get one from Australia, Bevel Heaven put me in contact with Vee Two who kindly parted one out for me. Now waiting for the cases to come back from the welder.3 points

Was a Great fan of the original GT's, ran three sets of them on my Z's, but, wanted to try something different. Since BMW & KTM chose the Metzeler M7rr for the S1000rr & Super Duke, I put Z8's on the work horse & M7rr's on the show pony. Loved the change so much, I put Z8's on the V11. With the soft rounded contour as opposed to the high crown of the GT's, transitioning right-left-right is so much smoother. Don't get me wrong, the GT's are an incredible tire....my MultiStrada customers won't use anything else. Just take a look at the Metzeler's. Similar profile to the Road 5's, but far better price point. Z8's lasting longer than the M7rr's, but that is to be expected.....IMHO...3 points

This is what it looks like "Direct" (address starting with "https") and not "BBCode" (address starting and ending with "[img]" . . . Any of you can change a BBCode image (that will not display here) to "Direct" by Copy&Paste the portion of the address https--->.JPG and leave off the [img] from the front and back.2 points

Hey Footgoose. I've been chatting with Nic from imgzeit and I think thats what he;s just suggested? I'm awaiting his translation from tech to english but I reckon you may have just done the translation for me! Wife now telling me we're going shopping, so will try this later on! also.... trying to recall as it's been awhile since install/removal .... the brackets curve mount as a 'frown' as apposed to a smile. The raised bits on the bracket is a spacer and goes inside the frame mount for the muff hanger, onto the longer bolts you've installed. need lock nuts to secure brackets.2 points

@v11_meticcio sent me this link. I don't think he posted it, yet. I find this a very beautiful tribute! The music and cinematography are delightful . . .2 points

4 + 4= #1 Main cables, #2 Fuel/Ignition harness, #3 Lighting/starting/charging harness (yes, two completely separate harnesses from the factory!), #4: something added for power access (charging or accessory power). #5? Likely a regulator ground (second ring terminal seen on the regulator case) or a second accessory (like a GPS). That ends up being a lot of ring terminals on the battery and a formula for corrosion and loosening. The reason some of us added junction blocks (which can also corrode and loosen!) . . .1 point

it seems you might be using "BBCode" use "Direct" as a copy option1 point

Received delivery this past week on my 2001 V11. Battery weak and could not crank engine. Saw it had a battery tender pigtail so I hooked up my deltran battery tender plus and charged overnight. The next morning the battery cranked over the engine fine. Took the seat off to check on what battery I have just in case I should get a new one and found an Odyssey 545 battery. Maybe I'm sorry I started to research them, but holly molly....so much info. As a rule I normally put a new Yuasa or Interstate battery in any new bike I buy. With this one, the PO said that it might only be 1 year old. My question is do I really need an official 'Odyssey battery charger' or can I buy a ctek, batteryminder, noco? Suggestions? Did I do any damage using the battery tender plus?1 point

i have a very old digital it measured 12.46 on the odyssey, but it also measured 12.40 on a new lead battery on my Buell S2. Now i need to buy a new meter to see if my old one is not calibrated right.1 point

I had one on my Scura when I bought it but removed it and honestly I cant remember how it was mounted but I know it was NOT like that.....I don't think your missing anything but the proper fastners..Hopefully some of the others who have mounted tis type of rack will chime in ...1 point

"Holding" is good! Do have a meter quality enough to show you that next decimal place? If that were my PC545 below 12.65, I would discharge it with the lights and see where the voltage is after 2-3 minutes. Over 12.0 would be nice to see. Then watch how long your 10 amp charger takes to bring it into the 14.2-14.7 range. (And whether it comes closer to the 15.0 limit this second charge cycle). [edit: Alright, ya made me look. The Sport was ridden yesterday 70 miles, 12.73v this morning. The 10 1/2 year old PC545 in Swampee-the-test-bed sits at 12.66v after sitting weeks and weeks.] (It is well know that splitting hairs is safer than splitting atoms. )1 point

I have, on mine. After changing the fuel filter, wanted to remove the tank again (after priming the setup a bit) for some other work. The fountain of fuel (probably aided by an air pocket in the fuel filter) was quite considerable, and unexpected after sitting for about 60min between priming and tank removal.1 point

But it's Holden-based. What could possibly go wrong??? OK, kidding there. French 'things' are often designed by committee. Italian things are a reflection of a single man - genius or nutter that he may be. Whose name will be on this new bike?1 point

Dear god no, don't wish that on us. The world, and especially Guzzi, does not need yet another prehistoric, pushrod powered shit-stick masquerading as a motorbike......1 point

You mean its powered now by water wheels from Lago di Como? OK, maybe a little cheeky there...1 point

I have the GT2's on my V11 Sport, and I don't like the way they feel on grooved pavement. Haven't ridden much with them, but they seem acceptable on non grooved pavement. I really did like the original GT's. Ken1 point
