  1. I do.. it’s here: Scura Build my love affair with MV started when I was 16 and went to Italy to live with my Uncle. He had two daughters, no sons. I went as sort of a surrogate to help him with his business. He is also a big motorcycle nut and one day he took me to a warehouse where he kept all his bikes and cars. He had a MV and a old military Guzzi among all the other stuff. My life changed when he fired that MV up. I never heard anything like that. It was nuts. I fell in love. Of course I never had the chance to ride anything.. he turned out to be a petty Mussolini type. So after almost a year of indentured service I left and went to West Germany. All these years later my cousin calls me and tells me about a old man who had passed away and his family was selling off his things. One of those things was a 750 MV he had dismantled and it’s still in pieces. I have it here, it’s missing some stuff and I’ve been in contact with Magni about getting the chain drive, and a set of those lovely pipes. At the end of the day, my wish is to have a Magni Guzzi and my MV sitting together.

  2. No, it’s in the Centauro I bought from a dealer in Florida. I live in Michigan, he was storing it for me till he sold the place and the new guy said “get it outta here” so now she’s home. It sat for quite awhile, took a bit of fiddling with it, but she runs really well for 21,000 miles showing on the clock. The bigger bearing is a Dynotec mod. I wanted to ship the engine there to have them build it. I was quoted $1,200 to Germany and I assume about the same back. So I am looking here for options. I’ve owned a couple very fast motorcycles in my day. Thats Eraldo Ferracci and I working on my brand new Tamburini F4. He got her making big power. There was some special parts from MV in that bike that they used in subsequent models. The F4CC is one I know uses the same cams. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of selling it when MV was in trouble. I have no idea where she is now. I never could sort it out. It was hard to control and it was unruly. Amazingly beautiful and god awful fast... Jesus...you whack the throttle on that, you best have your things In order. So really, it’s not that I need nor want that again. An extra 30-50 horses will give me all the artillery I need. Btw, I love those Australia’s.. I seen one for sale and almost..... almost... but I have another MV I’m going to start messing with once my Guzzi is done.

  3. I can only wax epistemologically about matters that I, personally, have substantial first-hand knowledge, experience, and study invested. Perhaps I could be considered an Epistemological Relayologist . . .

  4. Hey gents, looks like we missed an opportunity to talk about how V85s will be escorting the president of Italy. But gosh, in its place we get to consider epistemology, which is also fun. A lot of propaganda is an attempt to control what people will accept as factual. For example, the omission of violence from history books that LowRyter mentioned. In this case, the history book is propaganda because it only tells the "nice" parts of the story. Students in California and Texas get different versions of the same textbooks, which plants the seeds of idealogical division in our youth. Here's a link to a NY Times article that shows some of the key differences in the textbooks. What state is guilty of propaganda - or are both guilty? Information overload presents special challenges to epistemology. None of us have the time or resources to fact-check everything we hear or see, so we have to decide who we believe will tell us the truth. Will governments lie about the nature of a disease, the occurrence of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or genocide committed against indigenous people in order to take their land? I say yes to all... and could add more topics. Will media outlets lie (including lies of omission) in order to report on events in ways that please audiences and advertisers? (I consider that a rhetorical question). Where do you go for "truth" and who do you trust to provide you with information that can credibly support a justifiable belief? Everything seems to polarized that I hardly know where to go anymore, but that's why I still subscribe to The Economist, which I trust to openly disclose the evidence they use to justify their claims. Fun case in point... last weeks cover said "10 Million Reasons to Vaccinate the World." I showed it to my 17 year old daughter, who plans to study journalism and marketing. She said "That sounds like hyperbole to me... but since it's The Economist, it's probably a population thing." Article at this link if you want to read it. In my opinion, the only way to show zero tolerance against propaganda of all sorts is to be informed with facts, while remaining open to considering the possible meanings or implications of those facts.

  5. Thankyou @Mikko, I have 4 bikes but the Ducati 1098 is going, it had more than enough power to scare the Bayjasus outta me. That'll leave me with the 3 Magnis at my age my riding days are numbered (especially with the Scotish weather) so the 3 of them are more than enough, I'd have loved to get my hands on a Giaponne, but would rather stay married. Lashings of BHP would only get me into trouble that I don't have the skill to extracate myself from. The Australia when I first purchased it a good few years back below. I'd hate to sell any of the Magnis it'll break my heart when the time comes. Its an Australia 98, they were built in 2 batches, I think the first were built in 92, using the original Daytona/HiCam engine with a sort of Hybrid frame that's a cross between the Beam and Tonti type frames. The second series used the Daytona RS engines/HiCam 'C' Kitted (almost identical to the Centauro but with slightly different cams) and a beam frame very similar to the one Guzzi used. There are some other smaller differences between the 2 batches and at first glance they're hard to tell apart (engine colour and forks are the giveaway). I believe there were around 130 built in total, Magni's plan was to build a lot more but Guzzi couldn't supply him with the engines/gbxs and running gear. Good luck with modding the HiCam I'd certainly be interested if you start a thread on what your doing and how it progresses. As with all of my bikes I'm that useless I just count myself lucky if I can get them to run in factory spec. I'll settle for the HiCam not overheating, making good oil pressure and remaining oil tight. John

  6. Moderator disclaimer: 1) Yep, this thread content is borderline and could get out of hand yet. Honestly, I just watch how y'all are courteous to one another and basically moderate your own-selves. Good on ya. 2) After the initial "conversation" I made some posts relevant to the topic title. The (obvious) action seemed well accepted. 3) Yet, the topic title really does not reflect the intent of the OP, hence the topic was moved to this suforum for "banter." I've marked Scud's post about considering "epistemology" as the topic "answer" as this concept is deeply relevant to forums such as ours. From Jaap's founding of this site nineteen years ago (!), we have kept a knowledge based approach to sharing. I have found nowhere else (internet or otherwise) where folks are so willing to help one another. Still, there is this constant balance and tension between opinion/belief and fact/reality. Can we say epistemology is the reason oil and tire threads have the reputation they have earned all across the web?

  8. I recall Ing. Giulio Carcano responding to the call for a new motorcycle for the Presidential Guard (Reggimento Corazzieri Carabinieri) saying it should have "The Presence of a Norman Horse." Pretty sure he nailed it! [If I were important (I'm not) and deserved a motorcycle escort (I don't), I would feel confident surrounded by dedicated folks on V85TTs . . .]

  9. Thanks @docc!! Good stuff! And yea, come hell or high water... I really would like to finally get the chance to meet some of you guys at the SSR. I’m keeping the Scura whole and just doing the little bit I can till she goes in for her heart transplant. It’s now been pushed back till winter of ‘22. So I have this summer & next to get the engine sent off and returned. Maybe get at least the front suspension all together. I have some plans concerning the rear, I’m waiting to hear back.

  11. Your business card says you are located in Los Angeles. Providing you do not see a lot of rain, and I would have thought Texas would have also qualified but it has been raining non stop last week, today too... I would instead of the Road 5 go for the Power RS; if you are in a hot environment almost all year long, look no further... it is like being glued to the road, and the feel is just incredible... The front tire will last about 6000 miles and the rear 4500 miles off track... so not much longevity, but once you try them, you will understand what I mean. Check out the presentation of the Power RS by STG; here's the link! Main issue seems to be availability. I checked a few websites, and they are all out of stock. At some point, I will install them on my Le Mans.

  16. I’ve read the heads on these hi cams get very hot. My plan was to have them coated with Swain Tech high-tech coatings He is the original developer of ceramic coatings and I’m still trying to figure out how to do that and send it off. I spoke with Charlie Pro 1 Racing Heads and he is interested in doing the work. V twins are V twins and there isn’t a bunch of complications involved in a Guzzi engine. I am really interested in his Q 4 Head technology. I think a combination of that and high tech coatings. We can get this engine running pretty strong. I like short stroke over-square engines in general. We could do the 100mm bore and leave the crank as is, that’ll get you 1225cc. I do like the idea of bigger crank bearings. Since you have yours all buttoned up I suppose I’ll be the one to try.

  17. A quote from the movie Stripes popped in my head - we are willing to learn! LOL! This has been my 1st time using an Odyssey and it has remained in a consistent state even when not on a tender or should I say a specific tender for the Odyssey because I haven't gotten around to ordering one yet...
    1 point
  18. I spite of my encouragement to go to the trouble to condition the Odyssey to get the most out of it, and take the load off of our nefarious charging system, an 80% PC545 has still been a vastly better performer for me than any other "power sports" battery I've ever seen or owned.

  19. The unfortunate thing about this subject is ; there are the riders that are using the Odyssey battery and there are those those that rationalize why not .

  21. I also wanted to incorporate some cool period aftermarket items. Seeing as how those are becoming a rarity nowadays, I’ve been busy scrounging around the internet looking for neat stuff. I have those head guards from Rossopuro and just yesterday I ordered a “Special Reaction Rod” from Stucchi. I had plans of doing something out of crazy unobtainaum but I think this will be just as cool in the end.

  26. There was an interesting book a few years ago called "Future Shock" that fits well within the idea of "info overload". As for protected speech, I suppose lies and propaganda are fair game but like liable and slander, there are consequences and remedies. It just gets worse when bad intent is magnified on social and mass media. Patrick Moynihan said that everyone has right to his own opinion but not to his own facts. And so long as I'm on the soapbox, omission can be powerful too. Growing up in Oklahoma, there was never a mention of the Tulsa race massacre. I was in my 40s before I ever knew about it. Something so important and so awful, killing and affecting so many people, families and an wiping out and entire community, something I never knew even after studying "official Oklahoma State History". Nope, it wasn't in the book. Nothing about it.

  27. I'm thinking that if we all "don't necessarily disagree" enough, maybe we'll soon all think the same. My way, of course. As so much of what we all "think" is often less cognitive than that, all of this reminds me of ... What Was I Thinkin' Bill

  28. We replaced the original battery in the wifes V11 with an Odyssey PC545. Ran it that way for years, but swapped it out before leaving on a long trip years back. The battery wasn't dead or anything, just didn't want it to die on the trip (had a bad experience with the original). After sitting in my garage for a few years, the battery in my lawn tractor died. So I grabbed the PC545 and put it in the lawn tractor, where it is still chugging away now. It just keeps going. And it gets very little special care or attention, nothing what some do for their batteries (docc?). I mention it because I am just so impressed with both the original and the Odyssey replacement. I have considered a Lithium battery, but in a 500 lb motorcycle I don't think the weight difference is worth it. I am fine with a heavy battery that works forever.

  29. ^^^^ I understand and do not necessarily disagree. That said, I view all such things through a "time, manner, & place" lens. What I say around my supper table, fire pit, and the like to friends are not things I say in motorcycle forums outside of "BS" subtopics. I loathe PC and all its fellow travelers, and, regrettably, it seems to have driven speech underground. Sad. But I also don't view every venue as a soapbox for my pet rocks ... and I assure you that I have a rock garden of those. So, if interested in any of those or in sharing yours, you and others here are welcome to come visit me in the Moto Grappa at the top of Virginia sometime, sit on the porch a spell, and sip something pleasant while we rant on about the decline and fall of western civilization. 1921 - 2021! 31. I don't own a Centauro but have a Daytona HiCam engine which is giving me a lot of grief (but that's another story). Just a couple of thing's Mikko, if you know already forgive me. The HiCam engine has both belts and gears, gears to drive the oil pump and service shaft and pulleys to drive the cams from the service shaft. I see somebody went the gear to chain route, but as you have a Caruso pump & gears, you are obviously not considering it..................wise move! AFAIK the V11 chain and pump conversion will reduce your oil output from the pump at least 20% (probably more) the V11 pump is smaller and the chain drive turns the pump slower. The HiCam engine has the largest oil pump of all the bikes of that era. This is supposition but I think the reason for the crazy sleeved oil pump is because Guzzi needed to make the pump large and then didn't have room for a roller bearing on the pump, so they just sleeved it instead. I wonder what oil pressures these bikes have after the conversion. I'd put at least a temporary oil pressure gauge onto it to see what pressures you get when the engine is up to temp, the relief valve is known to leak, an experiment I'm still fooling around with, I reckon if it's in line with the limited anectodal evidence I have it will be in the 40s. That said, I've never heard of a Centauro running its bearings except if there's been oil starvation from the pump breaking or the oil hoses coming off the oil cooler. I assume you've found Phil's excellent build thread https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?/topic/20664-v11-daytona-project/ My own woes are documented here if you fancy an amusing read at my expense https://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?/topic/21884-hicam-oil-pressure-gross-stupidity-and-why-you-should-always-listen-to-chuck/ Just some info, make of it what you will John

  32. My riding buddy years ago had a dog named Buck..,Buck was half Rhodesion Ridgeback and Half Great Dane..Big dog, maybe 160 lbs..My buddy had a new Jeep CJ 5 then with every off road attachment you could imagine on it, But every time he would go to the Pub and leave Buck in the Jeep too long,..Buck would eat the upholstery off the seats..at first my friend Steve ..who is super Anal about his vehicles was so pissed threatened to shoot the dog and took Buck down to the beach to do it....but he loved the dog too much and he couldn't do it, So..eventually after 2-3 sets of Upholstery..we just saw him driving around town for years in this beautiful Jeep with the exception that it had only springs left on the seats and a towel thrown over them..Buck riding happily in the back!

  34. I never thought the tails were bothersome, Chopping out the center section in that Cent sure did the trick. Oh if time and money wasn't in perennially short supply I'd have my way with that V10. I'm trying to budget in a supply of spares for the 8Valve. Since those are quite rare to begin with. Later in life and or me getting my ticket punched, it would be a nice gesture to the next owner to be secure in knowing they have parts to keep her alive.

  35. I've long struggled with the "heavy tails" of the V11 and the Centauro. It helped me appreciate them to learn that Luciano Marabese "drew them after" the Gambalunghino and Dondolino rear race fenders. That Dynotec Centauro looks great!
