Somebody just posted this on WildGuzzi, and I thought it would be interesting here too. I didn't know the MGS01 used a 6-speed transmission "modified" from a V11.

New "Pork chops", refreshed Motor and Trans with new RAM clutch kit are all re assembled and back in her Frame!...Heads etc will go on today!!

Unsurprisingly, Harpers has the parts diagram for the MGS01 online. Check out these two links to the frame. The frame is still a spine frame, but it's very different than the V11. There is no separate front subframe; it is welded to the main frame. It has a solid piece that mounts at the front of the transmission, like the bolt-on bracket that was not installed in so many of the red-frame bikes. And the back is totally different, where it connects to transmission rear plate you mentioned. Frame 1 at Harpers Frame 2 at Harpers Transmission at Harpers What a cool bike... is it too much to ask for a next gen Moto Guzzi LeMans or Daytona? A hot rodded version of my Stelvio motor would do just fine in a package like that.

There have been endless claims for stupid HP figures for Guzzi Hi-Cams both first and second generation. Certainly the MGS had substantial lightening and friction reducing additions to the early Hi-Cam but whether these would of been sufficient to glean the boost to performance claimed I remain fairly skeptical. The internet is also awash with claims of stupid power increases with the 2nd generation Hi-Cam. Usually coupled with a breathtaking ignorance of the laws of physics and bucketloads of 'Magical Thinking'. In this, as with so many other examples of idiocy, I part my buttocks and break wind vigorously in their general direction.

Makes me wonder how they got 122 hp out of a 95 hp motor . . . Seems the "modification" to the V11 6speeder gearbox was the CNC machined billet rear plate that mounts the swingarm and replaces the frame side plates of the other SpineFrames. Also makes me wonder how the Spine is attached to the driveline on the MGS-01. More than just the very front of the engine and the very back of the gearbox?

Thanks for the info guys. I was able to get Collector plate for my 2004 Ballabio. I did not provide any info, just checked boxes that said 15 years old and less than 1500 manufactured. They must of already had the data you submitted to confirm low production. Picked up plate and insurance today. Saves a lot of money.

I just got approval for collector plate and insurance for my 2004 Moto Guzzi Ballabio in BC today. I checked the boxes on the application that said 15 years old and less than 1500 manufactured. I did not provide any data with the application. After about 5 weeks I got approved and just went and picked up the plate and insurance now. I assume they already have the data as I know of one other person in BC that had obtained Collector plate for 2003 Lemans. The cost per year is $ 219 for 2 million liability plus license plate fee for a total about 300. I just got 3 month worth and was $90 with license plate and fee cost. The license plate fee is one time, as long as you keep the same one.

Yes, the oil cooler went away when I put the sump on. Haven't missed it for a moment. There are lots of other goodies hidden inside as well... hi-comp pistons, Carrillo rods, port & flowed heads done by Mike Rich, Megacycle 620x10 cam... its a fun bike. __Jason

Yeah, I did nothing wrong. The other driver made an illegal 3-point u-turn in the blind spot of a hill, crossing double lines. They were ticketed by the cops, I was not. As for the insurance issue, yeah... in hindsight, I would have done some things differently. There was a possibility of injury, and I did get checked out and some x-rays, and given that the other person was at-fault, I wanted the full paper trail. Most of the parts I already have or can get pretty easily. I just want to avoid the whole "Salvage Title" bullshit if I buy the bike back from the insurance company, because that really complicates my ability to get proper (and reasonably priced) insurance going forward. Hopefully, it won't come to that. I'm still somewhat optimistic I can get this resolved without it being a total write-off, but we shall see. __Jason

I guess one consolation is that I'm expecting to take delivery on a shiny new V85TT any day now, so that will keep me distracted for a while at least... __Jason

GP Motorcycles is a good shop. That's where I bought my Scura and my Stelvio. It's close to Little Italy and downtown San Diego. It would be easy to spend a day in the area. Within walking distance, if you like Mexican food, is the fabulous El Indio restaurant. But... it looks like Larry is in Bullhead City, which is closer to Los Angeles than San Diego. There's gotta be a good shop for oil and tires closer than that, like in Kingman, or even Flagstaff.

Hi All, I have a Dr John in storage that I plan on bringing out to France and restoring. I believe it was 18 of 20 but I can not locate the paperwork. Does anyone have a list of engine / chassis numbers for the Dr Johns? Cheers Peter S

It really was an amazing coincidence to come out of -- I am somewhat embarrassed to admit this publicly -- Denny's after breakfast and see the unidentified-until-now Nick on his Norge with a Duc riding with him. Nick told me on the phone that he had left his home in the N.J. Philly burbs with the intention of meeting his Bologna buddy -- from a different part of Pa. Philly -- somewhere along the way. Nick came off I-81 northbound onto U.S. 11 just as his Ducati friend rolled off of I-81 southbound. That's a four-or-so hour trip meshing serendipitously at the same moment. Add to that our own puling out of the Denny's parking lot to see a red Norge. Not quite to Twilight Zone level, but a nice coincidence anyway. Bill
