Wouldn't that be something? That this "South'n Spine Raid" is becoming its 17th might suggest that there actually might be a "recipe for a successful raid" does beg the question . . . There is this (but there is more) . . . This is not a rally, event, or function of V11LeMans.com. It is an idea about riding, or meeting interested people. It is an idea only. There is no plan, no registration, no stickers, T-shirts, merchandise, door prizes, meals, poker runs, routes, organization, or support. Just discussion and sharing. There is no affiliation or responsibility, expressed or implied, with or by V11Lemans.com, its owner(s), Administrators, moderators, members, pets, pocket mice, or any other entity. If being at The US Appalachian Divide in September feels like a good idea to you, look forward to sharing ideas. The idea of ideas has been around for a while. I do love George Bernard Shaw's take: "If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples, then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas."6 points

I was searching for info in some recent posts by Docc on the outboard needle bearing located on the rear axle assembly and stumbled across this gem posted by the man himself over a decade and a half ago. I'm giving this a bump just in case someone else is working on or planning to work around the bevel box; the information and tips by Pete and many others is worth it's weight in gold. Tks to Jaap for patiently ensuring that Pete's original post was documented completely with photos back in 2004, and to this day, maintains this great resource site for the benefit of all spiney owners.3 points

After a lot of blood, sweat, beer, forum browsing, and troubleshooting, I've got her on the road again. Had to pull the motor because of a bent crankshaft due to my dumbass not torqueing down the stator nut. Gave it to a friend who's a master engine builder, and she gave me a damned good motor in exchange for some $$ (highly recommend Mototown in Marinna, Ca if you're close). While it was apart, I worked on the transmission (filed the shift selector, new spring thanks to Scud, straightened the shift lever that was banana shaped after an accident, addressed a gear oil leak from a sloppy permatex job). Downshifts are still not 100%, but it's much improved than what it was before. Chased some oil leak issues from the back, but it was thankfully determined to be the bell-housing/breather hose because I stupidly didn't clamp it down. Traced some charging issues back to wires connecting on the positive terminal not being fully connected; discovered both in the comfort of my garage, and on 101N in the left lane. Some quick side-of-the road splicing got me down the road. She's not 100% yet. I don't actually how how well she's charging because I discovered the ground leads on my cheap hazard fraught multimeter have almost come off. Had some 'hiccups' that was causing the idle to drop and stall. Turned up the idle as a bodge fix so she won't stall out at stops, but the hiccups are still there, leading me to think there's a hole in the intake boots. But I was able to go for a proper ride up in the Oakland/ Berkeley hills today. I've missed her dearly. It's good to have her back3 points

I think I saw one. Once. The light was dim and the moment, fleeting . . . There could have been mushrooms involved . . .2 points

Tks Docc, It's very evident when I start ripping through all the info, you've done an amazing job behind the scenes compiling the information and the links so it can be retrieved. I've read a ton of really good info and tips but I've yet to confirm what I started out searching for, lol. If I knock off that outside big washer on the Bevel Box, does that inner sleeve from the needle roller bearing pop out without too much drama, and relatively straight forward to rotate the bearing and regrease, or am I likely to end up with a bunch of needle rollers on my garage floor if the job goes sideways? Yeah, I have a real problem being forced into paying for something that used to be free, and still is elsewhere. What actually interests me is why some people can see the images and others can't.1 point

MMmm . I would fix a wooden crate that would hold it at it's journals ad keep it WELL oiled or covered in grease .1 point

Uhhhh , FWIW & after the fact , older mower shops can straighten crankshafts . Yes , straighten c/shafts , as in the snouts . People used to run over everything and bend the cranks . I never saw it done , so I am not sure if it is straightened in the block or removed .1 point

Wasn't there a black and silver version created by a US dealer and called something forgettable back in the day. Wasn't a "factory" release but a US local individualised and locally marketed thing. One dealer only Marketed I mean. Ciao1 point

Dunno, but it's too much work to download and resize them for upload. Your imagination is sufficient and you'll see it at the Spine Raid.1 point

It appears to be from the film, “Il Profeta” (the prophet?), as shown in this page with the poster...... https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/mr-kinky-italian-2p-68-art-sexy-ann-1839138386 if you search for the title or posters for the title all sorts of stuff shows up, some with Ann Margaret and some with other nice young ladies, but all with the goofy dude with his goat and rags. Perhaps there was a series of films or shows with this character, an ascetic type, being confronted with sexy young ladies. Like mixing Benny Hill and John the Baptist. I want that poster! Btw, Ms. Margaret is a real-life motorcyclist.1 point

The big needle bearing and seal below it, look and feel fine. I removed all the rust on top of the crownwheel axel before reassembly. Cant imagen this bearing has moved due to taking her apart. If the guzzi-man highly recommends me to change it, i will. Otherwise it will stay in there. I dont plan to remove the actual pinion. I saw pete's thread. Besides i did not find any dissturbing axial or radial play. I just want to document everything, it might help others someday.1 point
