  1. Bottom line is that the value of all other US Scuras just went up a bit.

  2. Remember how much your paying for this opinion I own it's twin sister, 2000 model. Overall looks to be a very nice example of the rarest and fastest color V11 Sport. In looking at their other bikes in their ads, I would say they are on the high side of pricing but that just gives them room to negotiate. The ad does say Make Offer. The missing cowl can be had on Ebay, the exhaust not stock but fit the bike well. The other farkles are to personal taste and don't really matter. Any service records? Can you talk to the previous owner? Shipping is a concern, but also the price of doing business from faraway. Good to very good condition, low miles I would say $4800 to $5100 if you sharpen your negotiation tactics. Good Luck! Paul B

  3. Hello all. I don't yet own a V11, but I'm a longtime Ducati rider. Really wanting to find a clean low mile V11 Sport/Cafe/LeMans. A pleasure to meet you all.

  4. OK, Let's unpack this. 1. COTA is always a rip-off IMO, this year is even worse. I think they may be talking about premium parking vs bike coral parking vs standard free parking....but I don't know. Just as bad are the hotel and lodging prices in A-town. What is COTA direct? 2. The back to back weekend was meant for COTA MotoGP and then the Okla Guzzi Campout the following weekend that Paul and I usually attend.

  5. Holding by hand is not the perfect solution but it's a lot better then freehand if that's all you've got. You can use some lockjaw pliers to hold the guide and reduce the issue, that's why the larger dia the better for the guide. Downward pressure on a large surface area to keep it perpendicular. If the pilot holes not straight neither will be the tapping hole. Ciao

  6. Thank docc. The engine is painted in "cast iron" colour and I like it better than the original lighter grey. I wasn't sure if it would work with the green but I think it does. With cylinder heads this big I think your eye is draw to the engine no matter what the colour. I left the fairing and front guard in the natural carbon finish because I thought there would be to much green with the belly pan as well , but I dont know. If someone here is an ace on playing with graphics programmes maybe they could make an image with the fairing and front guard in green and i could see how it looks. Ciao

  8. I am offering my Rosso Mandello for sale on this forum to fellow members This bike was in storage for a while so I completely went through it and replaced anything that was required, it has new fuel system, all fresh fluids, new Pirelli Angel tires, new battery, this bike runs like new and sounds amazing with Mistral pipes and crossover system. I have boxes of spares and manuals, plus a framed limited edition #266 Rosso Mandello certificate. I am asking $7,800, I am located near Franklin TN, pm me for further information or high definition photos

  9. N Lowest that I can get from them is 54xx.xx with doc fees. A bit expensive for a leap of faith. The bike looks great, but adding $700-$1k for shipping... I'm better off waiting for one more local to me. Yes, I know that I'll be waiting a while. I'd love a green or silver V11 Sport or a champagne V11 LeMans. These bikes are just so sexy. A big block Guzzi would really compliment my 900SS Ducatis, I think. My max budget is $6k, and for that, I'd better be talking to the original owner, in his Guzzi altar themed garage with a stack of service history from new.

  10. Pretty sure we have critiqued this offering before. Yet, I am sure we won't mind doing it again. This way, @VtwinStorm, you can learn about the differences in the models and the year ranges. First, this is an early (1999-2001) RedFrame (short frame) Sport. Not "Café", per se, which could imply a later LongFrame Café Sport with handlebars instead of clip-ons and other differences. Have a look at the Model Year Breakdown thread in FAQ:

  11. No seat cowl. If you're concerned with the money, it seems to have the requisite dealer markup. They're all over the map price wise. If you want to make comparisons, go to Wild Guzzi and MGNOC sites and looks at their respective classified. But if you like the bike and want the color, how long would you like to wait? All bikes share common issues. Otherwise, it's condition. This one is supposedly a clean bike. This model should be checked for transmission recall. Also, all "red frames" will need to have a transmission brace that fastens the bellhousing to the frame. My mechanic in Okla City has fabbed some transmission brace kits (includes fasteners). So far shipping, you could also consider a fly and ride it home. BTW- I think the board had a pretty nice "Rosso something" for sale today. It's red and silver. looks cool.

  12. I would guess it is GRIT as in Guzzi Rally In Texas. But it could be a celebration of Grits, that would be delicious.

  15. What is the V11 in coffee terms? A French pressed Italian roast with breast milk. A good rich punch with accidental life giving properties because you forgot to read the label reaching into the fridge. Boom. Okay, maybe a Vietnamese style coffee using Lavazza espresso... For the faint of heart..

  16. Yes Mav was only withdrawn from the next race. In fact, his entire team will sit out and not travel to the race. But when the rider deliberately tries to blow up the engine, and those engines have extended life limits by rule, I'd say he's gone. Like Steal Your Face, gone.

  17. Yeah, from what I have heard all Yamaha did was withdraw his entry for the second race in Austria. He is sitting this race out. It remains to be seen if they part ways now or put him back on the factory Yamaha for the remainder of the season. I would not wish Mav on a team I hate, so I certainly don't wish him on Aprilia. They don't have enough money to pay someone like Mav to ride around at the back trying to blow up his bike. I would ride it for free and not even try to blow it up.....

  18. Personally if you can get the kit I'd buy the kit. Your current cover has been modified to the point where the std eccentric wont work with it I shouldn't think and although it's saveable with a workaround or re machining I doubt you have access to that? Ciao

  19. That's not a project. That's a salvage. Rear shock, bodywork and some engine parts may be good. Everything else is likely tweeked. Looks like someone hit it and likely ran. Sadly, one more Scura out of circulation.

  21. I'll probably take the Greenie to Okla Campout. If I ride to COTA, I'll ride the Ducati, although I've ridden the Greenie there 3 times. BTW- I think these are back to back weekends.

  22. I have it on good authority that it was sold to a WG member that has some uncompleted projects sitting around. For years..

  23. Agreed, have done it several times, but with some plywood to give the fins something to sink into instead of breaking off. Also, it is intended to support the weight of the bike; the factory stand comes with a little support that goes under the sump.

  25. Valuation is interesting business, especially as these bikes are becoming twenty+ years old and each individual model/ color is only seen in relatively small numbers. (I don't know if they are "rare as hens' teeth ", but certainly "finer'n frog hair! ") An experienced member here spoke to me recently about valuation issues related to our model specific forum. The fellow has bought and sold a series of very nice V11 in recent years. I trust his opinion and he opened my eyes to a phenomenon that I had overlooked. And I paraphrase: Those of us with intimate knowledge of this model series tend to undervalue its current market value. Partly because we have a "long memory" of prior values and sales. Partly because we already have one (or more) V11 and would not pay a premium for another or a replacement. What this member opened my eyes to is that the biggest market looking for a V11 these days is not within our ranks, but comes here to listen to what we have to say. (Once, again, I say, "We are the world's foremost expert on the Moto Guzzi V11." ) My observation is that we saw the bottom of the depreciation curve for V11 several years ago and actual sales prices, recognition, and desirability have been steadily on the rise. Also notable are the recent high-end auction sales of a couple different Coppa Italia for ~10,000+ USD. Valuation is also spread across international boundaries over the continents. Asking prices in Europe have consistently outpaced those in The States, while I've seen our Canadian neighbors do some discounting to make their V11 more available to buyers across the border. With new owners coming to the Moto Guzzi V11, these folks are necessarily making comparisons to the cost of buying something similar from the same era (maybe a BMW R1100S? Ducati ST?). So, my joking (above) aside about "giving away silver Sports", values really have been on the rise. Don't give your V11 away. These are magnificent, unique, works of Italian art that offer a visceral and captivating motorcycling experience. Remember, we have a responsibility to our stewardship: We are the world's foremost expert on the Moto Guzzi V11!

  26. I keep a pretty good eye on the guzzis for sale in Ontario and Quebec and occasionally the rest of Canada. There have never been a lot of them available for sale, but I notice that the V11's in it's various models are definitely trending upward. I used to see them in the $3-4-5K range, now I'm seeing them in the $6-8K range and recently there was a basically stock Scura without the clutch fix asking $10K. Those are Canadian Dollar prices, which I would normally figure to be roughly 30% higher than US prices, fwiw. Kelly
