Earlier, flat tappet, versions of the engine had minor camming differences. Once the roller system was adopted all 1200 motors became effectively the same. The 1400 motor has substantial differences to the 1200 but uses the same cams. Scud, the Sport 1200 is a much *Softer* motorbike than the Griso and is a lot less 'Sporty'. It's essentially just a Breva with handlebars and a small fairing. That isn't to say it's a bad bike. Far from it. But if you want 'Sporty' starting off with the Griso platform is a far better bet.4 points

Griso is, without doubt, the ultimate iteration of the big block and what a glorious swan song it is. No, it doesn't speak to everyone and in stock trim is far from perfect but once mapped and suspended properly it is a 'Road' bike without peer. I like mine so much I bought another one in case something happens to my original one! I won't be buying another IC engined motorbike, at least not to keep, so my Grisos will be my swan song as well as Guzzi's as the firm now seems to be wandering off rudderless into the world of bland, uninspiring and uninteresting *Nothing* bikes.3 points

Had a fabulous ride on my Griso around the Derbyshire hills today. Did exactly the same ride on my Greenie 2 weeks ago. Reflecting on the contrasts, it reminded me what a gem the 1151 cc 8V roller cam motor is. Masses of torque throughout, and at high rpms it just keeps on pulling. The Griso 8V is a joy to ride, sure it’s long heavy bike, but I can hustle it along the twisties around here and make great progress, it countersteers well, and generally feels rock solid even when really pushed hard, I think it’s a lot more planted than my red framed V11’s, but that’s down to it’s longer wheelbase and stiffer frame. IMHO styling wise I still think a V11 is slightly ahead of the Griso, but the Griso was and still is an awesome package & finale to the big block Guzzi’s Will we ever see an as accomplished a Guzzi as a 8V Griso ?2 points

I could never get over the stupid valve cover extensions/oversized covers thing, then cut bloody great chunks out of the fuel tank so they fit. Looks like something the Guzzi social club came up with after a long lunch when the styling department were made redundant. Ciao2 points

I feel similarly about my Stelvio in comparison to the V11. But the huge, cattle-horn handle bars make it easy to push around on the street. It's a fabulous motor and the longer-travel suspension inspires confidence even on crappy asphalt. I have only liked the looks of one Griso, the Tenni green with brown seat, but even that, at least to me, is only a decent-looking bike that doesn't truly inspire. Now a Sport 1200... that is potentially a different story (again, IMO) and could be the peak of the CARC sporting bikes. BTW, I don't find my Stelvio to be highly attractive either, although I love the dual headlight and the style of the taillight, and overall it looks better than most ADV bikes.2 points

Four weeks out. Today, I rode 150 miles to spank mySport, work through the final Waddington Effect from the last tear down, and assist a fellow SpineRaider in preparation for the XVII. Something we have come to call "Bike Wash." Sort of a "Check My Work" session. mySport hates riding in the city. HATES high ambient temperatures 90-95ºF/30-35ºC. hateshhateshateshates *traffuck* - er, uh "traffic". Yet, she carried the day through some very challenging conditions. Not > perfect <, but roadworthy. SpineRaid or Bust!2 points

Jim, since none of the real competemt guys have responded. My quess is you are reading, and reading. It's all here on the forum. You need to reverse what you did to the wiring, and put on an extra relay for starting. Quite simple wiring to do it, problem solved,,, just take care of your kill switch,,, and the other electric connections . Cheers Tom1 point

bb- I don't see the reason to purchase tickets in advance. They'll be plenty of tickets at the gate. T1 is my favorite spot and there were plenty on tickets. I almost bought into Duc Island but my buddy was on a Yamaha. I didn't see that Ducati Island had been released, I was on the info sign up. Still, give Covid, I'm not sure I'll want to travel to Texas anyway even if Dorna opens the door. I'm not optimistic either way. I see the Dead & Co are requiring vax, perhaps I'll go in Dallas?1 point

I always tell individuals when inquiring about the differences between my Griso and my 1200 Sport that the Griso feels much lighter but is also a lot more violent( in a good way ) Just my thoughts is all. Ciao1 point

Na ............ That ride by wire stuff just doesn't connect one to the machine IMHO. Ciao1 point

Probably can still find you a bunk and a space in the garage at the South'n Spine Raid. There will be another Rosso Mandello there. Not sure anyone has ever seen two together . . .1 point

Good wisdom decision... I found my MG on Cycletrader.com.1 point

Hardly an appropriate analogy, Guzzi isn’t peddling junk or artery clogging bits! If it is drawing new riders to the brand and existing ones to loosen their purse strings, that’s a good result. It isn’t exactly falling apart either, so by what measure other than preferred specs is it a failure? i suppose when it starts suffering major recalls and pieces start to fail it can be called for its shortcomings.1 point

Same one indeed….I believe they are all tuned the same…but the professionals here can confirm…1 point

@pete roper , Is the Griso 8v motor not the same as the 8v motor in the Stelvio and Norge ?1 point

A turd, hmm, surely by now, with the sales that the V85 has generated, you cannot call it a turd anymore. Maybe the specs aren't to one's liking, but it has been a commercial success so far and riders' reviews have been much more positive than negative.1 point

I read up a bit on that race. Seems only about 1/2 the entrants even finished. Sometimes, racing to finish is as important to a brand as racing to win. I think that's especially true in the Adventure bike category, where buyers want a bike that will get them home more than one that will be faster than everyone else.1 point

8th and 9th? That seems like an admirable outcome considering the competition . . .1 point

I think I saw one. Once. The light was dim and the moment, fleeting . . . There could have been mushrooms involved . . .1 point

Wow, someone else old enough to have been to AWHQ. Marquez looked solid on Sunday until the rains came and messed up what was a really good race. But I hate Marquez, so I really don't want to see him back in form. I'm really hoping that Texas doesn't manage to F'up Covid so bad that Dorna pulls the race or COTA bans fans. I'll be making the run from Mesa, AZ to Austin if it's a go. I'll finally be able to use my 2020 tickets I bought a year and a half ago. BTW, other Italian marques are welcome on Ducati Island, if you don't mind the "fees".0 points
