Sort of. Owner bought it a couple of months ago but could not sort out missing and stumbling at idle and mid-range. Literally priced at a point that I couldn't pass it up. Idle was all over the place and it popped and banged like the 4th of July. Started with carb balance and TPS reset, helped until it warmed up and the party resumed. Upped the CO setting, helped short term but still returned. Valves were a little wide but not much. Finally tried Reset Learning Parameters and she settled down and purred like a kitten (or a tractor). Evidently someone wrote a new map to it and forgot to reset this so it was following its old settings. Now I've got to go back and tweak the CO setting because I think I've probably got it too rich.3 points

roper plate ....did you use 2 gaskets? one on top of the plate and one on the bottom ? should be sump cover-gasket-roper plate - gasket- bottom of engine2 points

Nice bike. I've thought about getting one too but it seemed frustratingly redundant with my V11 Sport. Those panniers look sharp.2 points

I use a very light coat of Hylomar ( or rolls Royce compound if you like) on my sump gaskets. Ciao1 point

Its almost certainly the gasket leaking between the hole and the inner engine area. So the oil leaks past the gasket and into the bolt hole. The outer edge of the gasket looks fine because it's actually sealing, it's the inner edge of the gasket that's leaking and it's leak path is through the adjacent bolt hole. Pull the sump and replace the gasket and have a good inspection of the area and apply a little sealant to the spot if necessary. You could make sure the hole face is in good shape where the cap screw head seats and install a 6mm aluminium crush washer as a temporary/ permanent fix. Ciao1 point

I always work my "star patterns" from the center out to the corners, in 2-3 steps. Not sure it makes any difference, but I would rather "spread to the corners than "crowd" the center. That said, I am not the Seal Whisperer that Andy York is . . .1 point

There will always be room for "collector" vehicles in the gloomy future; hopefully. In Europe those are 30 years old minimum. But yes, from 2022, all vehicles that are going to be submitted for certification within the EU will have to have a speed limiter of some sorts. No technology has been imposed, and a simple over speed sound signal will be acceptable. And all the new cars to be sold from 2024 will need to be equipped with speed limiters. Nothing is said about older vehicles upgrading, but since cities are slowly but surely restricting access to "polluting" cars.... But this is not going to happen in the USA any time soon.1 point

Single downdraft Weber IDF44 w/chokes. I sincerely hope the jetting is done. On the plus side, with 1/2 of the bike stripped away, it probably weighs only about 525lbs.1 point

It's a good point I hadn't thought of, or if any of the screws are bottoming in the holes rather than compressing the gasket. That whole area will be submerged I reckon so a good seal is essential...................Long shot I know, but other than the gasket damage you mention or a piece of old gasket on the mating faces, I can't think what would cause that type of leak1 point

Agreed. I saw that article last week. Data loggers have been in cars and trucks here for years. My 2002 GMC pickup truck had info available to provide anyone monitoring my gps (through OnStar) to my location and speed at anytime, anywhere. Pass a law and flip a switch and that system could automatically send out a speeding ticket. I'd have been sent 5 or 10 a day.1 point

Litigation. You live in the land of Litigation. This is why Brembo don't make seal kits for their callipers or master cylinders anymore, fears that they will be installed wrongly by amateurs and they Brembo will be dragged into a court battle. I'd imagine Brembo USA and or their distributors would be of the same mind for some of the older stuff. All your likely to get is NOS. Ciao1 point

I was all set to buy a Monster 1100 earlier this year (last of the air cooled), then this Greenie came up for sale, only 5K miles, and with a lot of money spent by the previous owner (new clutch, frame & swing arm powder coated, belly pan and lots more including a LeMans style bikini fairing that I’m yet to fit). The price was right, next thing I know it’s in my garage next to the others. The Monster will now have to wait until next year….1 point

You and your LeMans are going to love each other even more with some sonorous canisters and diligent tuning. The cabling allows you to connect guzzidiag, but you will also need a quality voltmeter to set the TPS, and a way to balance the throttle bodies. Details here: MySport, with the (likely Mistral made) Moto Guzzi "for off-road use" accessory canisters, has done fabulously on the Decent-tune up and factory map, factory cross-over. The pods will cause you more difficulties, but not impossible. Get some canisters you like the looks of (I've never heard a V11 I didn't love the sound of), and use the Decent Tune-up as a baseline. Anne France Dautheville deserves special credit for having been possibly the first ever "Guzzi" lady. She did the 1972 France Iran (Orion Raid), and after reaching the destination Ispahan, she continued by herself to Afghanistan. That Guzzi in the picture should be in a museum. I wonder if she knows where it is now....1 point

What Claudio Dominicali says about the special affinity of people around the Ducati brand, is valid for other brands too. However I believe the charisma behind Italian bikes is special. There is a lot of enthusiasm with BMW and Triumph, and I am not going to ignore Harley Davidson here in the US. I have been to one of the WDW, and it felt like thanksgiving in the USA. All the family reuniting around the patriarch. I also attended the LoneStar annual rally in Galveston and the reunion was not HD centered, unlike in the case of WDW. Not saying WDW is better. Simply stating the celebration and team building were different. To some extent, the V11 forum here does it everyday. It would be interesting if Piaggio was compelled to organize a similar event here, in the USA for the Moto Guzzi fans.1 point
