To trace a leak I have always completely degreased, puffed the area with white talcum powder and then fired her up. It is immediately obvious where the source is by the dark staining in the powder. Chris.3 points

I was cleaning out the drawer of my bedside table this morning and came across a pair of tappets, (No, I have no real idea why I had tappets in my bedside table drawer, that's just the way it is.) and it makes interesting viewing and probably shows another reason why the 'New' Hi Cam was able to make considerably more grunts than the 'Old' Hi Cam. Now I have problems putting pics up here but I'll try. If it doesn't work I'll have to rely on the good offices of someone more savvy to copy them from my links. Anyway if you can see the pics the larger of the two tappets is from an early Hi-Cam, Daytona/Centauro. The later one weighs in at 22 grams. Yes, it has a small pushrod as well that weighs a few grams but the difference is huge! That is an awful lot more mass to be moving and coupled with the extensive use of low friction rolling element bearings in the later engine contributes greatly I'm sure to the greater output of the later motors.1 point

So I was on Griso Ghetto and a person posted aboutSouth’n Spine Raid at the Lodge at Tellico in Tellico Plains, Tennessee. I I was just through that area with my Griso. I went up Buck Bald Mountain chassing a KTM 890 R. I may want to join you guys next year as I really like that area. I own a 2007 Norge like the gentlman who posted the article, but I think I would rather ride the Griso. I was there for the Georgia rally. I wanted to do the Kentucky Rally like the gentelman who posted the article but it was my mothers birthday and we had a party for her. Here is a pic on top of Buck Bald. I have a GoPro Video of the ride up but too large to share here.1 point

+1 on the breather hose. They are nefarious for leaks. Also, visible in every one of your images, is the distributor blanking plate. Seen here just beyond the blue connector for the head temperature sensor: Mine benefited from a fresh O-ring and a smear of sealant. That said, you have so much oil forward of that, it is likely, as Lucky Phil said, to find the breather hose leaking where it attaches to the spine frame at the front . . .1 point

It's the breather hose from the frame backbone behind the steering head to the back of the engine crankcase at 1200 oclock. Ciao1 point

I like Sardines. I keep 20- 30 tins in my rotation of canned/dried foods at all times. Not a "survivalist" thing, just a modest store of sustenance that'll keep me from going shopping when it's inconvenient. And the 'best by' dates are about 3 years. What's not to like... good tasting protein quick and easy, and just the right amount. Usually a lunch for me about 3 times a month. Omega 3's, low on the food chain so no load of mercury like all the big fishies. High in sodium but I don't worry about that. My dad got me started as a kid. He had them as a snack with some beers on the weekend but liked all those sauces in the tin. I didn't much care for those. These days I avoid the skin and bones (tho those add healthy benefits) and just get the cleaned fillets. Still under TWO bucks! All the brands I have are from Morocco. What do you think makes these cost $7. It probably says but I don't speak French...1 point

If you like Sardines, I can recommend Portugal, the Algarve coast where Sardines are like Foie Gras for the French. Besides the food, the Algarve would make your Moto Guzzi happy. Portugal is one of the cheapest European country to visit or to live in. Somewhat, nobody speaks much about it. We hear about Spain, Italy, UK, Germany, The Netherlands, but Portugal never gets mentioned. On my recently installed TPMS (Steel Mate) on my Norge, it shows me the temperature on my tires, in addition to tire pressure and a clock. I've never seen or measured the temperature before on the tires, but now have a baseline, and interestingly enough, under normal riding conditions, I can see that the rear tire runs 10C hotter than the front. Now...the actual data on the temp isn't really useful, but over time, as a reference, it will give me a point of reference as to what's normal. I see the same on the oil dipstick, some may see it as a farkle/gimmick...great...don't buy it. I think it's an elegant piece of hardware, and it's sort of cool (well, hot really) to see the temp while stopped at a coffee break, just as a point of reference. Is it really necessary...not at all, but then again, is carbon fiber necessary, no...does it look good, yes!1 point

Hi, The shrouds or diagonal brace on the inner curve to me is there for resonance reasons. My guess is that it's only clamped onto the header at either end and the middle had to fend for itself suffering tunning fork like vibrations along its stamped sheet metal length. Fatigue looks likely if not braced. As to the image manipulation, you are being too kind, if I could channel my inner Roper here, it is done by shaved apes and is totally an unintentional mistake. Deep etching is the process of eliminating unwanted portions of an image is usually done via a path and a mask but can be hacked with a magic wand or eraser in Photoshop. My educated guess is that since it takes skill to draw an accurate path, wanding or selecting was used and I will back that assertion up by the presence of jagged lines, artifacts present and basically no regard of what the image is and the result needed. Witness the radiator shroud robbing part of the engines side view. A professional would have cloned that area in with regard to showing the complete shape of the engine minus foreground articles covering subject detail. Mechanical edges should always be crisp and sharp, organic edges can suffer a degree of inaccuracy - but an engine block? No, the job is crap. Too much of an answer?1 point

Because Ducati wants a piece of the ADV market, which keeps getting defined by off-road capability, even though most ADV bikes rarely see dirt. Journalists and crazy people insist on stuffing adventure motorcycles in places that are better suited to actual dirt bikes. My friends on 450s made me pose before they helped me out of this sand trap. 100HP on a heavy bike can dig into the axle in a hurry.1 point
