I (might) have one more new Guzzi in my moto-harem before I hang up my spurs. I deem this worthy. The Chief, Domestic Operations & CFO has given tentative approval! But, we shall see how much the new beast weighs wet and some info on its COG. I would, of course, get the red, so that is that. Besides, my riding skills or lack would never exploit the Ohlins and I suspect the stock setup is fine enough. Bill6 points

This is because there is not enough current flowing through the coils probably 20 - 25 Amps. the solenoid is just sitting there, eventually it melts the 15 Amp fuse. The coils are designed to draw over 50 Amps but going through the ignition switch even a clean one you will be lucky to get 30 Amps barely enough to encourage the solenoid to move. The strength of an electromagnet is proportional to the number of turns x the current flow so at 20 Amps its only pulling at 40% of its design strength. The dashboard lights dim because you are pulling a lot of current through the switch and the contact resistance is dropping the Voltage, if you clean the contacts you will find it improves. After a few years the Vaseline in the switch gets hard and tends to hold the contacts apart, On a cold day it will be even worse because the vaseline is even harder. Clean the old vaseline out and replace it you will notice a vast improvement. If you really want to fix it you need to provide a better source of 12 Volts to the start relay however with the later VIIs you can't just feed 12 Volts from the battery to the start relay as you can with most other Guzzi because the Normally closed 87A contact goes to the headlight. There's another easy way and thats to add another relay with the contact between the large live terminal and the spade connector, The new relay coil is triggered by the original wire that went to the solenoid spade, you also need to ground the other coil connection. Now all your switch has to supply is about 150 milliamps, the solenoid will pull ~ 60 Amps and the starter will perform how it was designed to. Notes: A fuse is optional, it should be 20 Amps because you have doubled the solenoid current. Although the current is much higher the duration is much shorter so it doesn't have time to heat the fuse (typical 15 milliseconds at 50 Amps then it drops back to 10 Amps) The starter designer never intended it to be installed the way Guzzi do it.4 points

IMHO you must provide a decent ground cable to the regulator case, all the current that passes through the red wire to the battery has to find its way back from chassis to the regulator case, the tiny black wire all the way back to the battery doesn't cut it. The Ducati Energia regulator doesn't directly control the battery Voltage, it regulates the Voltage between its black wire and case ground to 13.8 Volts so if the case is not connected to battery negative properly the Voltage you drop between negative and the case is lost. Probably when the bike was new it made fairly good contact to chassis but as it ages it has to rely more and more on the thin black wire. The path through the engine to the main ground connection to the battery is many times better than the black wire. A short heavy wire from the regulator case to a timing cover bolt is a vast improvement. I have even suggested using an aluminium strap in place of a wire with suitable grease to stop corrosion of course.3 points

in the multi band concert heyday of the '70's, this show was almost always there. Good times!2 points

The pegs appear to be almost far enough back. For me. Good thing it does not breathe through those gills, else it would be called the V100 Mackerel.2 points

Ha, reminds me of an experiment I did as a school kid. I thought the nitrobenzene was related to tri-nitro-toluene (TNT), so I mixed up a batch of nitrobenzene in the chemistry lab, and poured it into the fuel tank of the big old Dennis school lawn mower. I watched the mowing for a long time before I realized I wasn't going to see anything exciting.2 points

Those side outlet exhaust pipes do look vulnerable. I see the V Twin layout as a way of having improved balance to control vibrations and give good air cooling. Perhaps modern parallel twins and triples with balance shafts and liquid cooling are the best layout now. All academic soon as the discussion will centre around where to put the battery - will it need to be quickly removable as a 'swop' refill. Motor in the wheel, simple but high unsprung weight. Conventional brakes or some form of electric retarder with regen.1 point

Marty, thanks for the research. I did a really interesting experiment a while back with a mixture of Sulphuric acid and an organic known as Nitrobenzine. The two solutions were mixed in a beaker with lab stirring system so it was a homogeneous mix. I started out with a 50:50 mix and kept increasing the acid ratio. All of a sudden the solution went from an insulator to a conductor. The process engineer I was working with explained that the solution flipped from drops of acid separated by an oil film to drops of oil separated by an acid film. I played around for a couple of days trying different combinations, the funny thing once it had flipped you had to decrease the concentration by about 20% before it would flip back.1 point

Great to have read your experiences Chuck ..I searched around a lot for a really good audiologist..I think I found a good one..had my first meeting with her yesterday,She has a doctorate from St.Louis University and has been doing this about 10 years..not too old and not too young..and we have a 2nd visit schedualed in a couple weeks to look over the choices...unlike some who only seem to push ONE brand or another..she has about 6 different ones and says we need to find just the right one for me. I have about a 60% hearing loss...and like everyone else of a certain age..never did a thing to protect my ears in the first 2/3 of my life..damn it! Hoping I get the best available for me.1 point

Finally, some information on availability; Summer 2022. Prices are still being worked on. Activate the subtitles and choose "Auto-Translate" English. It is actually quite good. The Piaggio manager explains that Moto Guzzi wanted to combine the current market's orientation favoring Adventure bikes, and at the same time trying to preserve the strong Moto Guzzi identity. All models will have adaptative aerodynamics according to the ride mode selected, with up to 22% better protection with the lateral appendixes fully deployed.1 point

Another review, with more details (unfortunately in French, but google automated subtitles should help... This one is funny, because the two journalists get kicked off the V100, and got told to put on their masks... They end the presentation by getting mad at Moto Guzzi..... lol....1 point

Clan was, is, the brand name chosen for a popular pipe tobacco in Europe. I found an old commercial which would not be politically correct today.... "Pipe" pronounced "peep" in French has another meaning...1 point

Ok, I can be the poster child for hearing aides. As Scud said, I should have been a little smarter about it, but I wasn't. Industrial noise, flying, motorcycling, rock concerts, you name it, have taken their toll. I have a medical condition called, "deaf as a post." I've been wearing them for 30 years (or more) and the tech involved is amazing. They used to be not much more than amplifiers of what you couldn't understand anyway. 10 years ago, the person that fitted you was the difference between Roper working on your Guzzi and the local Japanese emporium "tech" working on it. Now, computers take much of the "skill" out of the equation. Fast forward to today, and with micro electronics, computers and "real ear" hearing tests, I can engage in conversations again instead of smiling and nodding. . Until this latest set, I still had to have close captioning on all TV programs. Conversation in noisy areas was unlikely. These bluetooth to the TV, and my phone, and give me the ability to listen to music again. There is still a learning curve for your brain. Is it the same as normal hearing? No. Still amazing, though, and can be a life changer. Rechargable. These happen to be Phonak Paradise, but I imagine other manufacturers can be similar.1 point

Have never gotten any good service from Harpers, on 3 occasions requested parts for 3 different items, Curtis said he had or would send upon receipt. never rec'd any further response. I use MG cycle as a primary source, then go to Stein Denise. You could also try Jim Hamlin Cycles in CN.1 point

What-a-freakin'-awesome performance!! Proof positive there is no "fear" in "Mc-FUR-son!" (That amazing bass player ain't skeered, neither . . .)1 point

I do like the Krauss/Plant collaboration. Especially that new backing band! Bob Weir, though, I find a bit draggy. Here is about the opposite end from draggy . . . (and I always thought they were singing, "His dog! / Hates banjos! ")1 point

Good question. I looked at the "Carbon Conductive" grease mentioned by P6x Carbon Conductive Grease (mgchemicals.com). This "conductive grease" claims resistivity of 114Ω.cm. Since resistivity is the inverse of conductivity, then this is actually about as conductive as drinking water. (IE very poor) So anyway, I measured the resistance of silver goop and C5A copper anti-seize. The resistance of both was too high for my meter to measure.1 point

I concur. Got the M9RR’s on my V11. Awesome confidence is essentially my butt meter rating. Trust these way more than Angel GT’s. I’m not big on tyre construction technicalities - but 100% silica compound front & rear is next level again. Like other’s not concerned about wear... but are lasting well.1 point

Interesting. Looking over my box of Gedore Vanadium hand tools, c.1960, that came to me from my father and brother, it occurred to me: So many of my tools put my mind to All of the people that have ever been at my aid.1 point
