Very enjoyable beautiful stuf to own Phil. Had to share my own 2 great homemade fully working engines made by +1 friend with 1 eye and , let's say limited sight. 1 Hammer brake engine 270-300rpm, 134kg. A flatmate years ago always wanted to mow the lawn when we had two stroke mower fuel mixed with Castrol R. I would think that a V11 is always a good "investment". They will carry through times and remain praised for the years to come. Those are "soul" bikes. They have a special spirit and will never be forgotten especially for such a short production span and run. When internal combustion engines production ends, and it is coming sooner than later, the V11 will still stand tall!3 points

Ha I'll show my teenage kids this:) I seriously lack any real artistic creativity in any form though, it's an engineers mind minus the creativity. Oh I have others. The Dale Earnhardt NASCAR Chev and the Ford Mustang engine are both 1/4 scale full metal diecast and too heavy for most shelves and the Ferrari V12 is 1/6 scale. My wife forgives me my lunacy.3 points

Now that we know these two V100 Mandello are "prototypes", and not even pre-series bikes, they have not even worked out a price point, it feels like they are "half" ready. The summer 2022 availability feels like wishful thinking; I hope that I am wrong. Nevertheless, I am expecting the price range to be above the 20K mark for the model with all the bells and whistles.2 points

Length Ctr to Ctr 278mm Bolt dia 12mm Bush O/D both ends 25mm so with a around a .6mm radius on the OD edge it's 23.75mm across the flat face. Ciao2 points

I own an Offy engine, well kinda. GMP all metal diecast 1/6 scale. Weighs about 5 lbs. They had their day in the sun.2 points

You can blame the US justice/legal system for that. Castrol and Mobil fought out that battle in the US courts about 35 years ago and Castrol won the argument. Apparently that's how the complex details of oil engineering and chemistry are evaluated and decide upon.......by an old guy in a black gown whose only experience of oil is the stuff he uses on his salad. I stopped buying Castrol when they started advertising Syntec as "full synthetic" despite the fact that it was made from a Group III mineral base oil. Because of Castrol, nowadays the advertising term "synthetic" applies to any mineral oil with extra processing and a higher price tag. All the manufacturers now sell a "synthetic" Group III mineral base oil. True synthetic oils are Group IV base oils made of polyalphaolefins (PAO) or Group V base oils made from esters (or other synthetic chemicals). I use an Australian oil in my air-cooled bike that is a mix of Group IV & V. I try to avoid products from manufacturers who imply lies in their advertising.1 point

I have to mention the Speed Triple 1200 RR here... The overall look reminds me of the Le Mans, and I have always been a big fan of three cylinder engines since the Mach III appeared in 1969. Love at first sound! I thought the Triumph triple would sound the same, but the loud whistling of the air intake killed it for me... The 1200 RR seems to be better in that department...1 point

Some other Guzzi bikes, and at 09:50', the V7 Fast Endurance, with a Guareschi kit. To participate to a Moto Guzzi organized set of races... not bad looking, what do you think?1 point

I had expected similar or better performance as the 8V engines but with less weight. I have not found any details on the weight yet. On a testride on a V85TT I really appreciated its "low" weight. I do not understand Paiggio Marketing ... they create a lot of nice (expensive) lifestyle videos but without any specs at all.1 point

Don't forget that one of the best lubricating oils ever, even compared to modern oils was/is vegetable bases lubricants such as Castrol R. Very difficult to manage even for racing as it was corrosive and needed to be drained after every meeting plus other issues like gum formation but as an actual lubricant it was very good. Ciao1 point

Oh, I suppose that anything can and has been accounted for. I guess my point was that the Offy's were huge 4-bangers revving to rather high RPMs and piston speeds in the age when lubricants were so-so, even in racing. I think I'll contact Bardahl and see if I can get the specs on their oils.1 point

Not really. Offys were over 4 liters, 256 ci unblown (400+ HP). They also ran up to 700hp w/turbo @ 8500 rpms and 160 ci.1 point

Bobby's car (top photo) had a 4 cyl Offy as well. It was turbocharged to the moon, an advantage since there is no head gasket. Bobby won the '68 "500", the first turbo of many turbos to win there. Some say it might have made 1000hp in qualification trim. Offys raced at Indy until the late '70's. The engine was designed by Harry Miller in the '20's, versions of his engines raced at Indy for better than 50 years. Miller's most famous were 1.5 liter supercharged DOHC straight 8's in the '20's, some were front wheel drive for a low profile. Miller's designs also inspired Ettore Bugatti's racers. Miller was a designing savant. He imagined how a component would operate and sometime he would size it with his fingers, a draftsman would measure his open fingers with calipers and use that as base spec. I have a book about him.1 point

Bardahl brand was a big racing sponsor in the '50's and '60's on all levels and also internationally. One of the local Supermodified guys here (dirt 1/2mile) drove the "Bardahl Special". I can guess there were many local "Specials" not only in the US but in many countries. They were big brand at Indy, even before STP. I remember the famous Hydroplane, "Miss Bardahl". I can remember seeing photos of sponsorship signs at some of the big races in Europe as well. I think you might see a Bardahl sign or sponsored car at any racetrack and any level back then.1 point

I have an HD Apple TV connected to my 4K HDR display, and a proper sound system. The V100 Mandello sounds too good to be true! keep in mind these two are still prototypes. Not even pre-series; Whatever we are listening to may be deceptive.1 point

I had a hyperpro shock made once and they offered me both dimensions, the Sachs or the Ohlins (which was longer). The Ohlins manuals are available on this site for download, probably have the specs. Matching the length of the Ohlins is a good idea, even on a short frame bike. I had Ohlins on a Greenie I had for a while, it was a big improvement. And I think one of the main reasons to replace the Sachs unit is their tendency to crack one of the mounts.1 point

So long as bringing up the subject, the Sachs shock is rebuildable, multi adjustable and configurable. You might also consider that as alternative.1 point

Maxton are a reputable company so why don't they know the dimensions already? I had a Wilbers custom made for my bike and they knew all the dimensions. I can get the dimensions for you tomorrow as I have a std shock in the workshop. You can only go I think it was 10mm longer or you run into drive shaft fwd universal joint contact with the swingarm tunnel issues. Ciao1 point

They will raise for sure, but that is not on my mind, how coud you put a price on a V11 ? It is pure health just looking, thinking, dreaming, no price on health i heard. Yes ai'm hit hard 1 V11 Le Mans for sale here now Finn.no $ 8400 47000miles. My Nero Corsa ended up 10k+ $ ,was there any other for sale around, NO. I say average price in Germany 5- 7000$ for decent V11. For 3300$ - 3000 I woud have picked it up asap, I know ending up 5000$ finished. I don't think Docc have any worries about how much his 1 owner 200k silver, with all paperwork is worth . Cheers Tom.1 point
