  1. I got a call from a friend with a VII Sport a couple of weeks back, he has owned the bike since new and done all the regular maintenance. He said the oil light came on for no reason at idle, could I come and have a look. He had the sump off when I got there, we couldn't see anything so concluded it must be a failed pressure switch and decided to put it back together. He would change the filter while it was apart. We took the hose clamp off the filter and screwed it off with a struggle. To our surprise it came off complete with a second rubber gasket all chewed up, It must have been working fine for months then finally given out while sitting waiting for parts. We concluded that the engine was fine and thanked his lucky stars.

  3. Yep, those headguards are one of Joe Kenney's designs. I like this one the best. Fun to fill in the eagle engraving in red.

  4. As the current caretaker of this Nero Corsa, here's a thread to document her current state and what happens next. She was previously advertised for sale on this forum, and I was able to pick her up near Mount Whitney. Since I did not get to see or ride the bike before committing, there was fun in the discovery.. Starting with the few problems: Running a bit rough Probably tipped on the right (bent front brake lever, rear brake lever replaced) Plastic gauge cup weirdly deformed (like from excess heat) Fuel door housing cracked (never seen that before) Ohlins damper went AWOL, replaced with Bitubo unit A few non-stock items: KM/H speedo (was originally a MPH bike, first sold in Washington) Porkchops and rocker covers repainted (color is brighter than stock, but seems to be a perfect match for the Nero Corsa script on the tail) Arashi front brake rotors Some desirable aftermarket goodies: Roper plate installed Mistral carbon fiber cans Stucchi crossover rear rack Oxford heated grips Carbon rear hugger (but with some damage) Headgaurds (I think Joe Kenny units) Brass temp sensor holder And best for last (IMO) - I was pleasantly surprised to find that the noisy clutch quieted down when I pulled the lever in. And that it was very grabby... which means somebody put in a RAM lightweight high-performance clutch. And I am STOKED. A few more pics:

  6. I actually reckon that adding mass to the end of a cantilevered beam, such as here with a stand, acts as a harmonic dampener. Witness handle bar end weights. Perhaps this limits the mounting bolts coming loose when the length of the beam acts like a tuning fork due to engine pulses. I note that my double retract springs are sleeved with rubber that stops vibration induced fatigue much like drum brake return springs are so there must significant twanging goin on here! Chris.

  7. Nice pic above AZ...your Scura has grown in size! Here's another great article to read...hats on to this guy! https://www.advpulse.com/adv-news/extreme-moto-expedition-across-siberia-to-the-coldest-city-on-earth/

  8. Thanks for addressing these questions, all. See what you're saying, Docc, about the monochromatic fireball; though the V11 colorway I've always admired is the 2002 Sport Naked with the pale greenish-gold tank. I've not seen one of those for sale in a long, long time.

  10. Boot burner, copy that! My left heel and toe looks like it's suffered a Hawaiian fire walk and it's the one reason why I would have a two into one right side header made to eliminate the left hand one. Chris.

  11. Shamelessly stolen from Fleabay, a Bellagio side stand that seems to some sort of orthotics already installed. Chris.

  13. Well.... in case nobody has looked at theirs after all this.. the foot isn't parallel to the ground when deployed, and will wear to the point of grinding the foot off the stalk. I made a stainless shoe to fit over the whole works to stop that wear. JB welded that bad boy on (Guzzi content) and no more problems.

  14. You don't out Harley a Harley in America, there is a veritable cemetery of Jap bikes laid to waste trying to do just this. Best to market it in Europe and Commonwealth countries. It's the only bike that I have buyers on the street asking me if I want to sell it, even the dealer who I bought it from and the guy who services it wants it back! Chris.

  15. Yea, I had a feeling there were quite a few makes out there that were offset for one reason or another. Harleys don't surprise me as handling doesn't seem to be on top of their agenda. It's better to be aligned of course but within reason it's not an issue. It's also worth remembering that the track difference when measuring from the side of the rims as a differential is twice the actual centreline offset so say a 5mm side to side difference is only 2.5mm centreline offset which doesn't seem as bad. Ciao

  16. I stood in line for Ago's autograph back when MV was the showcase marque at Mid-Ohio's vintage days. I also demo-ed the F4 that they were releasing. The man was cool, the bike was terrific and terrifying ( mostly because of the price). I lost the autograph that same week touring on Skyline Drive when I proved the axiom that nothing is truly waterproof when riding in strong rain... I love the round headlight on this new one, but I'm sure I'll never be able to afford it.

  18. Docc, you're just riding on the wrong tires! Aside from traction, the big plus is that the suction cups popping drown out the tappets!

  19. Even with an electric jacket (delicious!), I draw the line at 40ºF/~5ºC. Below that I just don't thrust the tires in the shady corners. I seem to recall our T5 Volvo lit the ice light at 38ºF. I figure the Swedes know a helluvalot more about ice than I do . . .

  20. I need to learn to be be more patient…. Just a couple days after I posted above, I hear from Joe! He says the job has made it to the shop floor. Accounting for the heat treating, completion is expected February. Joe is also making the relieved cam flange available.
