  2. This sexy beast is currently in the showroom at Pro Italia motorcycles in Glendale, California. If you’re in the area, I encourage you to go see it in person. It’s really lovely. I have never seen an MGS-01, but this may be the closest I get. They are asking $30k. I may start playing the lottery. I’ll need a big win to buy this beauty and to pay for the divorce that will be sure to follow.

  3. I had two starting issues with my 2004 V11 when I got it. First one turn the handlebars to the right lock & no instrument lights, nothing. Turn the bars to the left lock everything worked. Turned out under the tank were two bullet connectors that when the bars were to the right pulled apart enough to stop everything. The second issue which might be what you are experiencing, although my cylinder was still tight, the wiring was not supported going into the cylinder & one of the soldered joints broke but didn’t come away. I took the cylinder out & had enough play in the wiring to re-solder all back where it should have been. Added a physical support to take the tension off the wires going to the lock cylinder & all has been good since. Luckily for me it wasn’t beyond what was easy to see.

  4. What sort of battery? If it's an Odyssey it'll still probably be ok after conditioning. They start better in my experience if you set the high idle lever on and don't touch the throttle until it's running. Ciao

  6. Assuming you decide to keep the bike, absolutely get one of those transmission braces. I agree on having the case repaired. It would be a good time to renew all the seals, and check the other internals for wear. Also a good time to inspect the clutch and replace anything that is close to its wear limit. But given the 87,000 kms it might be cheaper in the long run to find a spare, low-mile transmission. Since the search might take a while, you could just ride it sparingly this summer and queue up the project for next winter. If you do find a suitable spare, your cracked one still has value as it can be repaired and rebuilt.

  8. Pull the tank and clean and inspect, same for the injectors and fuel filter. The injectors will probably need professional cleaning and the filter changing. Pull the plugs and rotate the engine by hand then on the starter with the plugs out make sure the LOP light goes out then drop the oil and filter and replace both. Replace all the brake and clutch fluids and bleed. Check the airbox and filter for dirt and critters then the usual stuff. Unless it leaks after you get it running then any engine and gearbox seals seals should be fine. Ciao

  11. If I had a "five-day-four-night" pass for the SSR, I would try to stay at TheTapocoLodge. Even at year-eighteen, SSR XVIII, this remains an >insertion/extraction operation< for me, with my Sport.

  12. I reckon you're right mate. This is what we found here in Oz, well Victoria anyway. We were hit pretty hard with lockdowns and restrictions etc so when they lifted..... EXODUS to the regions especially as we still couldn't travel interstate, so EVERYWHERE was booked out. I'm going to try and getaway near the end of summer when it'll have settled down! Cheers Guzzler

  13. Okay, so . . . heads-up, y'all . . . Bryan tells me that building 200 is sold out for our weekend (the rooms above the "Game Room"). I just reserved a room in 400 (above the garage) and understand there is one left in that building. And this is seven months out! What is up? What changed? IMO, it is two years of people not getting out and now making a determined effort to travel. I saw this happen to a friend who takes his RV and motorcycles to Florida every year for Antique Motorcycle Club of America and "Bike Week". Not this year. Asked why, he told me, "Everything is booked up." Seriously consider making your reservation for SSR XVIII if that is on your Hopes&Wishes List. I told Bryan that our status of non-organization, non-event, non-registration, and non-entity do not support his offer to "block off rooms." "Y'all come, now! Ya hear?"

  14. Love their tech, but the bodywork seems squashed flat to my eyes. MGS-01 bodywork would perfect it for me. If I must have one, kindly make it red. $18.500 USD, but it's in the UK. https://www.westsussexspecialistcars.co.uk/ghezzi-brian-supertwin-1100-moto-guzzi-in-west-sussex-6336925

  17. This should have been a winter project . Fix ( have the case fixed ) the case and have it done right . It will be done once and for all & install the case bracket . Then enjoy the bike !

  18. I got my GB case fixed. Of course the transmission had to be removed and taken apart- all beyond my skill level. For the fix, it was sent to powder coat oven for several heat cycles to clean out all the residual fluids and then welded. So far it's held up. The shop that did it for me sells a brace kit to prevent it from happening again.

  20. The Tapoco Lodge. Pronounced Ta-PO-ka, as I was told by the attending server, is nearly biker perfection. A lovely building isolated in a seriously beautiful spot, with a dedicated 'motorcycles only' lot with covered spaces. Located a few miles from the infamous "tail of the dragon" and great roads in any direction. I've not stayed there but the atmosphere and menu at lunch are "high end-but on casual Friday-nearly an office party-bordering on the last half of a wedding reception." I'll bet the rooms and associated features are equally pleasing.

  21. Bryan confirmed my room today. What a great host. We had a nice chat about motorcycling. Docc, you beat me to the room reservation warning. I got the last 'deluxe' room which would leave I suspect the 'basic' and 'premium' All great rooms and fairly priced IMO. Can't wait to get there! ... and um ... bring tools?

  23. The bags are Givi knock offs, the expandable type. Not the same quality as the hard bags on the Multi Strada. The the bolts in the brackets can shear. Most owners (myself included) have those bolts tapped to a larger size. Despite that, they can hold a fullface helmet (unlike a Goldwing) and are serviceable for most trips. Other than that, it's been as reliable as a Honda. By comparison, I've ridden the 2nd Gen SS and it's quite a bit more aggressive in the riding position vs the new bike. The new bike has a very comfortable seat and the riding position is more relaxed than the V11 Sport.

  24. No the ST2 was red, the TT2 was red, the 1198 is red, the bevel 750 Sport was yellow, the Hailwood Mille was red white and green, the 750 GT was Bronze, the 750 Sport belt engined bike was Matt Black then red, the 1098 was red. That's just the Ducati's. I've owned my fair share of red bikes it's fair to say I actually wanted a Black 1198 but one wasn't available at the time. When I bought the 1000ss I also wanted a red one as well and have a full set of bodywork and a good second hand tank ready to paint red which was my intention. I then about 5 or 6 years later went to a motorcycle gathering and on display was a couple of 1000ss bikes in red and was actually happy mine was yellow. Not that yellow would have been my first choice but it seems that red is a very "safe" choice for a bike colour but it dates a bit quickly I think. Each car or bike has it's 'best colour" whatever that may be. I wouldn't choose a car in the yellow the 1000ss is as to me it's not really a colour for a car with so much painted area. My old Monaro was blue and that colour looked great on it but it didn't look good at all on the sedan or ute version of that model. my Focus RS in Blue Ciao

Of all those members as well as others outside of this group I would hope you felt you were treated with courtesy respect and discretion throughout the entire transaction/s. and ScudI I do appreciate your acknowledgement of my many years of hunting for these machines I desire But you must know I am a private person with nothing to prove to any one. If I could ever figure out how to present decent photo representations of these machines one day I would be more than willing to show those who have interest. 26. You need to look at these charts with a careful eye. I've spent hours and hours researching these in the past and they very often contradict themselves or aren't comprehensive or detailed enough. This chart for instance look like it's geared more to the mining industry than the automotive and therefor I personally wouldn't rely on it entirely for motorcycle work. Not saying it's wrong but if you look at enough of them you start to get an idea of where their focus is and it makes a difference.I don't see Gasoline on this one and it's important not to extrapolate general stuff into specifics such as Hydrocarbon or tolulene into gasoline. I've seen these charts indicate that Nitrile is fine in Gasoline which it is for a trapped seal but not as a dynamic seal and some Nitrile is better in fuel than other compounds. Even constrained nitrile seals when removed have swelled in gasoline and cant be reused so you need to not rely on any one particular of these generic charts as they can and do vary quite a bit. Ciao

  27. Good question. I've dealt with orings of various types and materials all my life in aviation and motorcycles and cars. We had at one point issues with leading edge actuators leaking hydraulic fluid on long flights but were fine on shorter flights of sub3 hours. Of course when they did leak in cruise on the longer flights by the time the aircraft got on the ground the leak had disappeared. So long cruise and we had passengers taking images through the cabin windows of hydraulic oil coming off the trailing off the wing and when the aircraft arrived at the next port zero leaks. Quite frustrating to deal with from a certification perspective. The reason? Well the manufacturer had decided to change the actuator oring material to "something better" problem was the "something better" wasn't actually that great at -45 deg C 42,000' foot cruise for more than a few hours. Cold soak set in and so did the leaks. Long descant to warmer air for landing and the problem disappeared. With regards to motorcycles the applications are pretty straight forward and as is the case in situations like this when all the technical intricacies and materials start to get delved into by people I simply go back to what has actually worked in previous practice. Theory and intricate detail on form function and material has it's place of course but apart from the transition to FKM/Viton for engines from Nitrile everything else seems to work acceptably well. The one interesting exception that needs to be considered on modern engines though that catches many mechanics esp home mechanics out is the use now of Flurosilicon seals for cranks and some other areas. Lubricating these when installing actually causes them to leak. They rely on being installed dry and the first rotations of the shaft deposits material from the seal onto the shaft and creates the sealing effect. If you don't read the manual and aren't aware you can have a major job on your hands to do the seal replacement all over again. Ciao

  33. Today working on my newly acquired V11 greenie, hoping to finish off doing the fluid replacements, I found the dreaded gearbox crack It is like all others I have read about around the upper mounting bracket on the Lh side, going from the bracket to the flat surface. I have mixed feelings at this time. The bike has 87000Km and is in good condition. My options.... 1. pump into the bike more time and money (new gearbox housing) or get the housing welded (outcome unsure) 2. find a second hand gearbox (difficult I think) 3. sell the bike for parts 4.close the garage and pretend it does not exist 5. ignore the problem and drive the bike until it leaks too much oil P.s.. for those who have been on this website long enough, the bike I got is Kiwi_roy's old bike (didn't buy it off him though) I really am looking forward to your inputs as I stand alone facing that dilemma at this time, what a bummer. L.
