  1. Well folk's looks like the curse continues... This bloody cold/flu has worsened and set in for a bit so any thoughts of getting away on the bikes this weekend have been shelved! The last time I rode with a cold it didn't end well so everything postponed for another week. Bugger, but come hell or high water we're off then! Cheers Guzzler Ps Maybe I shouldn't tempt fate as I did mention on Tuesday in the office that it would be my luck to get crook this week and lo and behold it started Wednesday and may not be a good idea to tempt the weather gods either as they seem pretty pissed off lately too...! So to the deities of health and weather ... How about a break?

  2. @Tomchri is in probably the most advanced country along that road in Europe with a large number wind turbines and a huge take up in electric vehicles. I know Norway isn't in the EU. As I recall if that's approved then all the countries in the block need to agree as each has a veto, so if it has gone through then Italy has agreed to it Just checked it's the end of sales of petrol and deisel vehicles by 2035 a different thing altogether and it has still to be ratified by individual countries lawyers and ministers, so not quite a done deal anyway. Germany is in for a lot of pain as it's huglely dependent on gas and even coal.

  3. Heartburn rise to level yellow, just thinking about EV. Your foot wear budget will be sky rocking, pipe budget, ++ just walking around waiting for the bloody EV to get filled up with nuclear electricity. I better stop . Cheers Tom

  4. Don's agreed to fix it when the next oil change is due. I don't expect to pay additional labor and if he totals the bike, he can own it. He said that the former tech used gasket sealer. I haven't a clue why the guy did that even if he didn't know anything about servicing Guzzis since there was never any adhesive on the surfaces in the first place. Believe me, I'm damned pissed about it. Ironically, I never had much problems with my Guzzis until I got some miles on them and relied on Don's shop. Then gearbox cracked, voltage regulator, fuel pump, oil pump, timing chest, etc., etc. So far my best ever experience for any motorcycle has been 24k miles on '17 Ducati, KNOCKING WOOD until my knuckles bleed.

  6. 1. So, how are they going to fly to their meetings? 2. Where does the electricity come from? 3. The less law made, the better. 4. No way the Italians will sign on to this.

  7. Indeed it is Doc. Between one thing and another just haven't been able to get away either at summers end or even bloody autumn! Now that the planets are aligning in winter we're being hit with a second polar blast of weather again this week with single digit daily high's and 0 to 3 overnight, snow down to 600 metres means the usual stomping grounds ( the high country ) is out! And it hasn't stopped raining for 2 weeks! Been a bit windy too...! Just to add to the litany of woe, I think I'm coming down with a cold ( not Covid thankfully - so far anyways!). But bugger it we've hatched a plan! Stay away from the snow and Ice of the high ground by skirting round them and up to the border ( Victoria /NSW ) on Saturday where we have a room in the Tallangatta pub booked Sat and Sunday. Then on Sunday ride the Murray river valley loop/circuit with maybe a wee diversion or two and dinner and drinks with the locals again Sunday night, then head for home Monday.I've ridden the southern part several times but only recently driven the northern part which actually follows the river ( which is the actual border ) and thought holy shit this would be a ripper on a bike.In fact a couple of well known bike magazines have used these roads to test bikes for many years so should be good....If all goes well. Now just gotta hope this cold doesn't get any worse! ( or the bloody weather too for that matter) Cheers Guzzler Ps camera is ready to go and hope to take a couple of shots

  8. Here's their 2022 catalogue. They are not distributed outside of Europe. They propose some interesting solutions for extreme heat, this is why they caught my attention. I got in touch with them, and I am going to purchase some of their items conceived for extreme heat, such as what we are seing here in Texas, and not only in Texas. They also have some padded under garments in the form of boxer shorts, which they say alleviate the backside sores we all experience on long rides. The gear looks top notch to me, I am willing to pay a few dollars more and check if their gear works as well as they say it does.

  9. G'day mate. I know full well the healing power of the V11 ( mental healing )! Having only ridden half a dozen times this year am desperate to get out for a decent ride eh. My problem is that when I were a mere slip of a fool back in the eighties,I ( and girlfriend at the time ) hopped on the GPZ900 and went up into the hills for a weekend getaway. This was winter and unbeknownst to me on the Saturday morning when we set out I was developing a cold. Well after ripping up over the Spur got to Marysville early so decided to have a bit of fun blasting up the Buxton rd at $2.00 +! Now this was all well and good and a great time was had until we got home Sunday arvo.Gee not feeling crash hot but a hot bath will do the trick followed by an early night.Next morning up and away to work but come smoko at 10am I was in a hell of a state.Wandering ( and I mean wandering ) across one of the busiest roads in Melbourne to the medical centre to see a Dr, who upon examining me went nuts WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING / I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE UPRIGHT AND MOVING...! Oh dear this'll be good I thought in as much capacity as I could think and he tells me to go and sit over there and I'll see you again in 30 minutes. If your temperature goes up another half a degree I'm calling an ambulance and you're being admitted to hospital asap.I'm in my own wee world where not much except breathing matters but was relieved when said temp stayed put.He was still all for admitting me but I swore I'd go home and take it easy. So wobble back across the road to work hand them the note from the Dr and I'm driven home. That was me for a month ( Pneumonia ) and it bloody near killed me! I swear I've never been as ill in all my life, and in those days I was fit and pretty strong as worked very physically in a VERY PHYSICAL industry! Anyways I survived ( obviously ) albeit some 2 x stone lighter ha ha not that I needed to lose weight by the way. Only once since have I made the mistake again bloody hell I even knew I had a wee cold this time but thought ah I'll be ok it's only a few hours... Well no Pneumonia this time ( Thank God ) but it turned a wee cold to a NASTY Flu and blew an eardrum which took Months to come good... So needless to say I'm a little wary of riding when crook... Anyways we've re-booked for next weekend and I'm off-work ( hence this rambling /bumbling mumbling discourse ) trying to get well enough to ensure that we do indeed get away next weekend.... Take care folk's Cheers Guzzler Ps As I sit here in the study typing this the F...ing sun has just come out......!! If I see that Black cat in the yard again I'm gunna kick it's arse over the fence!!! Pps metaphorically of course ( I do like the wee blert and anyway I'm in no shape to kick anything at the moment lest it's me and it involves a bucket

  10. I suspect the KTM will be the end of Millers Career in MotoGP. KTM has 2 things going against it, a tubular frame and it's the only MotoGP bike using WP suspension. I don't think the tube frame is necessarily a limiting factor but when your bike is obviously lacking in performance then reducing the variables is the smart way of at the very least of gaining some comparative data with whats on every other winning bike. Of course politics plays a part and seeing KTM owns WP it's never going to happen but the smart move would be to use the Ohlins on the Tech3 bikes to see what it's like. When you're looking for answers sometimes it's best to be a follower for a while and use whats obviously winning for at the very least an objective alternative data. The only issue with a steel tube frame is consistency. Casy Stoner commented years ago when Ducati went to the carbon box frame that the only thing wrong with the trellis frame was that every individual one felt completely different to the other. So his #1 bike flexed totally different from his #2 bike and a replacement frame different to both. He postulated that with so many individual welded joints in a trellis that that may be the issue. Nobody before or since has had Stoners "feel" for a motorcycle chassis. Phil

  11. @guzzler have you considered the healing power of a V11? it is probably the best remedy available to any kind of "under the weather" symptom. Being honest, I have not yet tried it with the Le Mans, however I remember that in the 70's a good ride would remove any reminiscing symptoms of a cold. Maybe our bodies produce special anticorps when we ride those bikes? but this is something I observed may times. Starting the ride with a bit of something, and coming back and feeling a lot better. Try it, and let us know.

  12. Bumping for any update. I was sure betting on the heat treatment. No news is not likely good news in this instance. Bill

  13. @guzzler, Perhaps this is the ride you alluded to in this post on Eighteenth South'n SpineRaid back in February? " We were hit pretty hard with lockdowns and restrictions etc so when they lifted..... EXODUS to the regions especially as we still couldn't travel interstate, so EVERYWHERE was booked out. I'm going to try and getaway near the end of summer when it'll have settled down! Cheers Guzzler "

  14. Be certain the external shift assembly is properly adjusted and the lever does not strike anything (like the Frame Side Plate). There is another spring (of three) that re-centers the lever. It could need attention, as well. Perhaps, it was installed backward. See Image 7 in the first post of the link below . . . @Lucky Phil produced this fabulous tutorial:

  15. The only other issue I didn't mention, all of the fasteners were over tightened. They were lipstick marked and my guess is they guy might've gotten his metric torque numbers confused with his SAE muscles. I've had the pan off many times and never had the fasteners so tight. I tried to remove it when the bike was stone cold. Used a light mallet with no luck. So I filled with oil and reinstalled the bolts. I'm guessing it will take heat and maybe some high strength fishing line. Or some other technique TBD.

  16. Good suggestions there. An electric heat gun can slowly heat the pan to 100-120°C without causing any damage. Remember that it gets to that temperature normally on a hot day in slow traffic. An infrared thermometer lets you check. It will take a while,as the castings are very thermally conductive, so you will be heating the crank case too. The heat softens most sealants and glues. Then gradual force from wood or plastic wedges can progressively open gaps for more wedges. BTW, thanks @docc for keeping this forum from going toxic. The world needs good moderators.

  17. Does anyone know what *kind* of sealer he used? I'm not sure even that matters. If you've made certain there's nothing mechanical holding it, the only thing left is the mallet. If there's a clean protruding edge somewhere you can get at with a piece of aluminum flat stock you can attack a corner or side that way without digging too much of the pan material off. As a last resort, and I hate even to suggest it, you might take a cylinder and piston off and see if you can get a piece of hardwood dowel down through the crank and oil stuff to strike it inside the pan. Not a happy thought, nor a guarantee of success. A long time ago, working at a bicycle shop, I was threatening a new carbon fiber swingarm while fishing through a lost cable. The boss said, "You've broken more expensive stuff than this, haven't you?" I laughed, because he was right.

  18. Did you get the 10mm capscrews out from the center of the bottom? That one tripped me up last time, even though I knew they were there once discovered and reminded.
