  1. I’m fortunate to have the best riding buddy ever, she rides the Honda CB 400 Super Four, which an awesome bike, & I’m on the Cafe Sport. We went camping down to the south west of Western Australia for a few days, it’s winter over here so it gets chilly in the evenings, we needed rain gear at times, but that didn’t put us off. The roads down here are lovely & bendy, the scenery is great & with a wood fire plus roasted marshmallows in the evenings., it was just the best. Another trip is currently being planned..

  3. That's out of my pay-grade, bud. Here is an image of the susceptible O-ring on our V11 distributor blanking plate. Yeah, these can leak after a bit . . .

[chuck/docc edits: names converted to usernames]: BramF Speedfrog (2) Kane Skip FuelCooler Aldo Tomchri (2) Arveno that is 10 and enough to get the ball rolling. I'm in the middle of getting an order for materials and parts for the airplane project, and will order the steel at the same time.

  6. Alright, here is my best shot. The image below is of #7 that I will refer to as the "Fender" (what the tail light and turn signals are bolted to). @p6x's modified #7 has been cut off below the tail light, the #11 "Number Plate Holder" and the Tag Light (not pictured) are both removed from the modified "fender." I am not yet convinced there is enough left of the modified #7 "Fender" to properly re-use. edit: [-> So, upon close consideration, not likely collision or impact related. The broken Support Bracket is not the source of the failure, IMO - it stems from the inexpert modification to the #7 "Fender" which is the mounting structure for the tail/brake light, license tag/number plate, tag light, and turn signals.<-] The image is looking rearward from the front (tire side) of the "Fender" hanging down a few inches from the mounting points. Three pair of fasteners hold this assembly to the #1 Rear Subframe and the #11 Support Bracket. 1) The vertical red lines represent where horizontal #7 "Fender" holes fit over vertical threaded studs extended down from the #1 Rear Subframe and nutted from below (later V11 may have hex-drive bolts installed upward, from below). If these holes are cut off the modified #7 Fender, this is a problem and whole assembly will "cantilever" and fail as described. 2) The blue lines represent the pair of hex drive fasteners that that are engaged from behind , beside the Tag Light (which is likely missing on the modified fender), and are nutted from in front of the support bracket lower tabs through the lower two holes of the #28 "Rear Splash Guard". [This image shows the braces of the 1st Generation Tekno pannier mounts slightly obscuring the lower support bracket tabs.) 3)The yellow arrows indicate the "Nut-Certs" on the upper tabs of the support bracket that are engaged with two screws from the front of the top two holes of the #28 "Rear Splash Guard" (not shown in this image, but shown five posts back as the "The mud guard is broken too.")

  7. I was riding my Quota in Ohio Amish country a few weeks ago, it seems the Amish ladies have embraced electric bicycles, so you know that this is the future because the Amish are trend setters!

  8. I replaced the crankcase vent tube. It was disintegrating on each end and leaking bad enough to let me watch the hot oil run down the right side of the crankcase and onto the hot exhaust. Smoky. I had done it on my silver bike and recalled that it was a bit of a struggle, but this time, oddly, I enjoyed the struggle.

  9. As I got the Le Mans out to start my South Padre Island trip early this morning, the tail light turn indicators number plate assembly fell off.... The bracket holding the assembly broke. The culprit seems to be item 11. I looked at the Guzzi spare parts catalog, I don't know if I am going to be able to find one of these number plate support. Also, the assembly was held by a plastic tie, so this looks like the entire mudguard was chopped off at some point. I am looking for suggestions, ideas before I decide what to do. The entire tail assy held by this flimsy bracket and happily vibrating produced the obvious result. I am not sure the top part of the bracket is not integral of that support which I am indicating with the arrow. This part is not shown on the Guzzi catalog.

  10. One could fairly easily fabricate their own fender eliminator /license plate holder /tail tidy or whatever you wanna call it... Here is an interesting idea/drawing that could be implemented as is or used for inspiration. Fender Eliminator Bracket.pdf

  11. A stronger coil should lead to a better contact, If you look at the specs of a Normally Open contact you will see it has a higher rating than the Normally Closed contact, this would be a function of the contact pressure.

  12. “Yet More” because this is about yet another “Mutton Run” to Daviess County in western Kentucky. This one was from 26 - 31 May 2022. I have posted about others before here and elsewhere. Mutton may not be "everyone's cup of tea," but bourbon, beer, and BS seem to see the haters through. And for attendees, these forays are always great fun, which is why, after all, most of us ride. The photos probably tell more than you want to know, but ask if anything is puzzling … and you care. The pix open in “landscape collage,” which means you can look at all at once without slogging through in a rolling one-at-a-time slide show. If you care at all about captions, hover your cursor over the pix. If you don't … well, don't. Here goes: Motos & Mutton May 2022 Bill

  13. Yep, IIRC, there is in an O-ring and a smear of gasket sealer to care for that vestigial structure . . . (the distributor blanking plate).

  14. Went out Sunday after church for a ride w Kale and his silver V11Sport. We ran into a delightful road in Central KY HWY 53 to 433. It’s Bluegrass HWY to Willisburg, then Mackville to eventually Perryville. I got in a great rhythm of riding in 3rd gear around 5k and revving up to 8K rpm. Corner to corner with out much braking at all, just engine brake to set my speed. Needless to say we rode back the same way to enjoy the day. When we came to a stop I noticed oil leaking. I almost panicked but decided to limp home and reevaluate. Turns out the cover over the old ignition was loose letting oil drip out over the top of the transmission, 🆘 avoided. Pic of V11 Sport & my old T3. Same block?

  15. Well, I was lucky that it did not happen while I was traveling. I am going to do a bit of engineering on that support, to make sure it does not happen again.

  16. I agree with you. #7 has been shortened. The modification and the reduction of fasteners has properly made the support failure prone. Once I manage to find a welding shop I will check if we can add some support beams so I don't experience that same issue again. I am so bummed to be immobilized again. I was looking forward to that South Padre Island excursion. I also have to listen to people telling me I should purchase a bike that works...

  20. They are fun, mine gives me that special feeling like the RC30, hard to put a finger on it. I perfected the 4 wheel drift in mine by staying late at work in Atlanta. Back then traffic would clear out by 7:00pm, I would take the downtown connector south to the International Blvd. (I think it had a different name back then) exit, two lanes banked to the left, with no other cars you could go as fast as you wanted, not sure how many times I took that curve, but it was always worth the extra hours at work. A lot of Alfa folks would say the Alfetta was better balanced with the 4 cylinder engine, but the V6 up front and the Transxale in the rear, the car had beautiful balance, you could make steering corrections mid-corner with the throttle.

  22. @Speedfrog made this current inquiry May 19, 2022, (less than a month ago) after @Onibaka revived this thread. Since then, several members have expressed an interest in the (4th?) run of the Chuck-made LuckyPhil Shift Extender. Thirteen pieces in this count . . . @Speedfrog (x2) @Tomchri (x2) @BramF (x1) @motortouring (x2) @Bingbong (x2) @Kane (x1) @Cold Desert Rat (x1) @Skip (x1) @FuelCooler (x1) Hopefully, these "notifications" will help interested members PM @Chuck to finalize. Thanks, again, Chuck!

  23. G'day mate. I know full well the healing power of the V11 ( mental healing )! Having only ridden half a dozen times this year am desperate to get out for a decent ride eh. My problem is that when I were a mere slip of a fool back in the eighties,I ( and girlfriend at the time ) hopped on the GPZ900 and went up into the hills for a weekend getaway. This was winter and unbeknownst to me on the Saturday morning when we set out I was developing a cold. Well after ripping up over the Spur got to Marysville early so decided to have a bit of fun blasting up the Buxton rd at $2.00 +! Now this was all well and good and a great time was had until we got home Sunday arvo.Gee not feeling crash hot but a hot bath will do the trick followed by an early night.Next morning up and away to work but come smoko at 10am I was in a hell of a state.Wandering ( and I mean wandering ) across one of the busiest roads in Melbourne to the medical centre to see a Dr, who upon examining me went nuts WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING / I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE UPRIGHT AND MOVING...! Oh dear this'll be good I thought in as much capacity as I could think and he tells me to go and sit over there and I'll see you again in 30 minutes. If your temperature goes up another half a degree I'm calling an ambulance and you're being admitted to hospital asap.I'm in my own wee world where not much except breathing matters but was relieved when said temp stayed put.He was still all for admitting me but I swore I'd go home and take it easy. So wobble back across the road to work hand them the note from the Dr and I'm driven home. That was me for a month ( Pneumonia ) and it bloody near killed me! I swear I've never been as ill in all my life, and in those days I was fit and pretty strong as worked very physically in a VERY PHYSICAL industry! Anyways I survived ( obviously ) albeit some 2 x stone lighter ha ha not that I needed to lose weight by the way. Only once since have I made the mistake again bloody hell I even knew I had a wee cold this time but thought ah I'll be ok it's only a few hours... Well no Pneumonia this time ( Thank God ) but it turned a wee cold to a NASTY Flu and blew an eardrum which took Months to come good... So needless to say I'm a little wary of riding when crook... Anyways we've re-booked for next weekend and I'm off-work ( hence this rambling /bumbling mumbling discourse ) trying to get well enough to ensure that we do indeed get away next weekend.... Take care folk's Cheers Guzzler Ps As I sit here in the study typing this the F...ing sun has just come out......!! If I see that Black cat in the yard again I'm gunna kick it's arse over the fence!!! Pps metaphorically of course ( I do like the wee blert and anyway I'm in no shape to kick anything at the moment lest it's me and it involves a bucket

  24. FWIW, sir ( @p6x), I find your Le Mans quite fine the way it sits . . . The way the valve cover, side cover, and tail fairing look like charcoal to the fire of the front fender, fairing, tank, and trailing flame of the seat panel ~ > ~ > ~ ~ ~ Magnifica !

  28. To me, the best sounding motorbikes were those which had one exhaust per cylinder; starting with the 1970 Honda 750 CB. Then, the Kawasaki triples; not with the expansion chambers that everybody seemed to favor.

  29. However, a big block Moto Guzzi does not need high compression pistons or to be at race speed to sound great. It sounds bellissimo at any revs, with any appropriate load. On a side note Docc I have recently ridden a friend GB500TT. What a little joy they are for a short sprint on some undulating twisties.

  31. What a great thread!! It is so important to recognize the visceral nature and emotional impact of the bikes. I was immediately attracted to the V7 Sport, but did not own a Guzzi until 1977, when I purchased a T-3. I rode that for a year and then traded it on a 1978 Lemans 850. That may have been the best motorcycle I have ever ridden, but sadly I crashed in 1979 and then took a wrong turn toward BMW ownership. 5 bikes and 20 years later I returned to my true love when I purchased a V11 Sport in 2000. I put 60,000 blissful miles on that bike until a women yacking on her cell phone ran a stop sign and totaled her out. I spent the next 10 years searching for a replacement and luckily last year I found her in Missouri. I am once again experiencing motorcycle bliss and I intend to ride this incredible machine into the sunset!!
