"The best cars wear their stories, dents and all." Reading this love(er)ly article by James Mills for Hagerty really spoke to me. It reminded me of so many, er, "nuances" that I have allowed, tolerated, ignored, or surrendered to, on mySport. And the place we are arriving with 20+ year old motorbikes that are, if not "rare", at least vastly uncommon. And if not "peculiar", at least > full of character < (like that uncle who liked to fire off his Napoleonic six-pounder and made his own whisky). Sure, I battled with the finish on the alternator cover time after time. It was becoming a line item in the scheduled maintenance. Then, it made up it's own mind about what it wanted to be . . . A couple weeks ago, at our local gather-up for coffee and Reubens, a fellow cocked his head and said, "Yo, docc, does that say 'nope' on your bike ?" I had to admit to the "patina" and said, "There are at least three stories behind that. But we're out of beer. Catch you at the "South'n SpineRaid !" Pretty sure we are beyond, "That is not the correct vacuum tap for the 2003 V11." Or, "This V11 LeMans would be more correct with the proper and original _____________ " (fill in the blank). I'm betting your V11 "patina" could tell some stories "if it could speak" . . .5 points

@v11_meticcio, from Lecco Italia, pointed out that the World Guzzi Days (Le GMG) is the same weekend as the South'n SpineRaid. So, being in Mandello del Lario during the South'n SpineRaid will be considered an acceptable alibi for your absence here. Otherwise, we will celebrate the centenary in solidarity. https://www.visitmandello.it/en/events/881-le-gmg-giornate-mondiali-guzzi3 points

yes, the relays click, and the pump whirls; confirmed last night. I like @gstaallons noid light idea. I may check into that as it would be nice to confirm it's working. I believe the injectors aren't cleaned properly. The thing is, even if they aren't spraying, they are at least squirting, it should still fire, and it's not. @LuckyPhil, they are installed correct, securely locked in. As for being properly grounded, I do have an understanding off this importance. I have not checked this, but I believe it is all stock so it should be correct. Laughable I know, but I'll still mention this, the owner said it ran when he parked it.1 point

I’m not connected in anyway but I’ve decided I can’t swing this deal after shipping costs. I think it’s a pretty fair deal if it checked out. $5850 https://www.facebook.com/groups/731294041018851/user/100000175636667/1 point

You have to join the Moto Guzzi’s for sale FB group to see it. new clutch needed when a seal failed and oiled the clutch, he said. That sounded perfectly reasonable to me. id be interested if it was more like 3 hours away instead of 13.1 point

I unfortunately have no overhead available. Hey, it's all about risk management anyway, right?1 point

I did that dozens of times. Too many times to count. Up until that "one time" . . . Never again would I jack my V11 without overhead support. "Acceleration due to gravity" is an awesome force to observe. Especially if that force involves your-own-self, or some "thing" (your Guzzi !) you care about . . . An added overhead "chain fall" or ratchet straps are easy money . . . Belt and suspenders? Or let your pants fall down unexpectedly?1 point

Thanks all. Chuck, I was going to close the modular when I was on the highway. Man, the bike went down with no warning, scraped the pavement and threw me off. I really didn't know what happened until I got to the shop and remember pulling that crap out the fender and wrapped around the caliper. When you're 68 years old and roll on the pavement, well..... I had done a full gym in the morning, took a dive in the afternoon, rode the bike, still ticking now. Actually, feeling OK but my lower back is stiff but a little better than last night. Mechanically the bike seem good. Some of the trim and bars need to be replaced. So far as I could tell the paint and engine are OK. The only mark on the gas tank is rubber mark on the right side from one of my boots. I'm guessing it'll clean off. Don can fix it while he tries to take the pan off- I'm still pissed about that. Found that Cabella's has those earplug mold kits, gonna head there after breakfast. I don't want to look at the Shoei.1 point

Ha! I was that guy ... but you know that. As for this SSR, I have yet to decide which Guzzi gets the nod. The Norge is now, sigh, history. Tales of that sale on site for the price of a beer (or better). Kathi has been looking forward to the XVIIIth, but our Seattle daughter just made her a conflicting offer of two weeks with the three grands out there, so I'll sadly solo it. Speaking of grands, one of our Maryland set is visiting. Plan to give her a ride on the EV today. She is game, but worried as she thinks "motorcycles are so dangerous." That from a 13-YO who does this every weekend, and just back from a blue-ribbon "event(ing)" in N.C.! Anyway, looking forward to the SSR albeit sans supervisor. Bill1 point

“Yet More” because this is about yet another “Mutton Run” to Daviess County in western Kentucky. This one was from 26 - 31 May 2022. I have posted about others before here and elsewhere. Mutton may not be "everyone's cup of tea," but bourbon, beer, and BS seem to see the haters through. And for attendees, these forays are always great fun, which is why, after all, most of us ride. The photos probably tell more than you want to know, but ask if anything is puzzling … and you care. The pix open in “landscape collage,” which means you can look at all at once without slogging through in a rolling one-at-a-time slide show. If you care at all about captions, hover your cursor over the pix. If you don't … well, don't. Here goes: Motos & Mutton May 2022 Bill1 point

According to certain tire manufacturers, tire pressure and tire construction play a role in fuel consumption. I am yet to verify this on my motorbike. Maybe these statements are applicable to automobile tires. My Michelin Road 5 make a big difference in the LeMans handling. That I could feel right from the ride out with fresh rubber. Is this because the previous set of tire was old? not worn, but old as per date of manufacture?1 point
