Always a tricky topic but I wanted to share this interesting test report from Utac Ceram. A rather top end automotive technical service and independent/inpartial under ISO 17025 accreditation (I am not sure if this test was done under the accreditation). https://grippingstories.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/210428_BRIDGESTONE-test-report-Motorcycle-tyre-comparison-V2_ENG2_sub.pdf3 points

interesting. For me it translates to - I likely could not tell the difference, and I'm pleased I got the Dunlops. Oddly enough I chose them for country of origin, and look of the tread pattern.3 points

I see a Royal Enfield thread in our future . My buddy worked for a company that (their branch) tested any & everything doing w/two wheels . He said the Enfield was a great bike . Build quality , looks , engine , everything. IDK who is in charge w/the bikes , but they are doing it right !2 points

Gaaa! *You* are the guy. I had called Mike and he said he had a bronze one in stock, but didn't offer test rides. I rode the AeroLario to a Hawg dealer in Lafayette, who did. I liked it a lot, but told the Hawg dealer to stick that $500 "market adjustment" charge where the sun don't shine. Politely, of course. Rummaged through my couch cushions, found enough to buy one of these little Enfields, and he had sold the bronze one the day before. Had the military versions, but they don't do it for me. Said he had a greenie coming in a week or two. The rest is history. The Kid was down from Wisconsin this weekend, and he feels exactly the same as I do. Rode it a long time, I was beginning to wonder if he'd crashed somewhere. "Needs a little more power. The front end is over sprung. The brakes are fabulous considering the price of this thing. Very comfortable, much like an Eldo riding position, but better. I really don't anything bad to say about it, especially considering the price."2 points

Did you have the original tool kit? There is a small tool, looks like a an inch sawed off a hex key, that you can hold with a wrench while turning the axle nut. If not, you can buy a set of large hex keys at your local Harbor Freight. I don't recall the exact size you need, but maybe a 10mm. If you have some spare bolts lying around you can find one that fits, and then see what size socket that bolt fits into.2 points

and no wonder......... Rod Copes, former senior manager at Harley-Davidson, became president of the North American branch. Pierre Terblanche was snatched from Ducati to become the head of industrial design at the UK office. James Young and Simon Warburton, department heads for engines and products respectively, were enticed away from Triumph. His crowning achievement was hiring Rudratej Singh, a marketing director from the massive multinational company Unilever, and installing him as President and marketing director of Royal Enfield UK.1 point

Just about any Fluke meter has a Hz function . I'm sure any meter has it now . I'm partial to Fluke . If you're looking for AC on a wire , turn your meter to AC and check . If it is generating a square wave , you won't get a (I think) good reading.1 point

So. My cursory inspection of the charging system seems to have been a little too cursory. A melted 15a fuse led me to check again. Voltage surging beyond 15 volts with revs. Id been intermittently burning out dash lights. Should have known better. Yup time for a voltage regulator. Fuse and regulator replaced. Stator leads good. All accessible connections cleaned and checked. I've reassembled the tach but still no signs of life. On the tach wiring I have 12+v on the red/black wire (power) On the yellow/black (signal). I get ~34hz at idle, and the frequency increases with revs. However I am only reading ~10.9v with key on/engine off. ~5.5v DC with engine running. I know there is a method of testing the wire for AC voltage from which similar inferences can be drawn as checking the frequency. Is it normal to be reporting such voltages on the tach signal wire or have I got a bad sensor or short to ground that I need to be chasing down? Probably going to go the speedhut route and dispense with the troublesome veglias. My thanks for your collective wisdom. Sam1 point

Most O'reilly Auto parts stores in the Bay area sell individual hex sockets that size..probably at least 3/4 if not 1 inch..so you may need a socket adapter if you don't have one..its worth the investment you will always need it if you own that bike. Like Scud says..see if you have a larger size bolt around that the head fits..or better yet use a Micrometer if you have one Pay close attention to the order of disassembly to the inner and outerspacers and washers as they come off the axel ..its easy to screw that up.1 point

So I sat on all of the Royal Enfield dealership selection repeatedly. I liked the Scram 411, the 350 Meteor sat good. But my heart dropped for a Ventura Storm Continental GT. So I went on a 10 mile test ride. I was really surprised by the initial quality impression. The power wouldn’t blow you away but was adequate and fun. The brakes by Brembo work brilliantly, and the bike feels a hundred pounds lighter than my dads 2022 V7 850 Special. The bike feels like it could run w that bike even if it’s only a 650. The transmission shifts quite a bit better also. Working on final approvals from financial advisor, aka my wife, will keep you posted. Oh yeah almost forgot, the riding triangle mimick’s the v11 Sport very closely.1 point

My Sport has passed the 22 year ownership point, nearly 128,000 miles/ 206.000 km Needless to say I have sourced some parts. On another recent thread I listed a few of my current sources and said that I had parts on the way from six of them: MGCycle (Wisconsin, USA), CadreCycle (Ohio, USA), TLM (Teo LaMers, Nederlands), Agostini (Mandello del Lario, Italy), Harpers (Missouri, USA), Stein-Dinse (Germany), "ebay", "Amazon", and so many others . . . Not the least of which are the generous members of this fine V11LeMans.com community. You folks rock! Three or four years ago, a South'n SpineRaider handed me white face, Veglia tachometer and said, "Pretty sure you will find a home for this." Last year it got mounted to a member's LeMans. Several years ago, I got a PM from a member who said he had sold his V11, but wanted to send me his spares pile. I've been handing them out ever since. Recently, I was reminded that AliExpress (Chinese "amazon"?) is a resource, as well. When we find alternative sources for specific parts, please post in @Scud's Encyclopedia of Compatible Parts. Otherwise, I just wish to report that parts, spares, and alternative sources remain available. No V11 should be laid-up for lack of functional parts. Having the Parts Catalog listings/part numbers for your exact application, and knowing how to search specific source sites, along with exactly what to order is, perhaps, the greatest challenge.1 point

An interesting thread. Thanks, @Pressureangle, for posting it. This illustrates how those who are driven more by content and their cause du jour than process could find themselves sputtering if the underlying reasons were reversed. For example -- to use an absurd example simply for effect -- imagine if PP had said the same thing about those who support abortion anytime on demand. Some, now untroubled by this present rule because they agree with PP's political stance, might be aflame with indignation were the rationale otherwise justified. I also like what I understand to be Poland's approach to internet censorship by government or tech corps: folks are free to post anything that is not patently unlawful. In other words, no matter how stupid or farfetched, one is free to say it, with the rest of us free to accept or reject on the merits. It is sublimely fascinating to have former commies school us in freedom of speech. To say we peasants are not capable of sorting wheat from chaff is highhanded hubris of the self-appointed elite. As for alternatives, @docc, I have used PP lots, but do find this disquieting, and will now think about bailing. I can send ACH payments directly from my online bank when cash need, or use CC for others. I have used Zelle and Venmo -- https://www.forbes.com/advisor/money-transfer/zelle-vs-venmo/ -- but much less often that PP. Enough. It's now time to focus on way more important matters. So, I'll go putz in the Moto Grappa and see if I can wrench a bit without doing any major damage to my Guzzis. Bill1 point
