  1. My '87 LMIVSE, bought it in 2010 from Jack Arnold, MGNOC Rep - Ohio, he had been the 2nd owner. It is my first MG. The bike had not been ridden in several years when I got it and required the "normal" routine maintenence tasks to get it operational again. About the only things I've added to the bike are the bags & mounts, headlight & coil relays, Delrin manifolds and K & N filters. I have done nothing to the bike cosmetically and ride it 1000-1500 miles annually. Art

  2. I've been lurking on this site for a long time, only a member for the last couple of years since I got my new to me 2003 V11 Lemans VIN ZGUKTCxx73M111236 I always struggled posting images to this site, so I never entered my Lemans in the registry. Today's the day I recently stumbled on Docc's excellent instructions on how to post images in the gallery, I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was. Once again,Tks Docc for taking such good care of us My 2003 V11 Lemans, was originally purchased at Blackfoot Motorsports in Calgary,Alberta, Canada. The bike led a sheltered life only accumulating 6K kms., the owner & the V11 relocated to Kemptville, Ontario, Canada 6-7 yrs ago, where the bike was listed for sale, only an hour from my house. I never actually saw the V11Lemans when it was for sale close by,although I spoke to the owner selling it many times. Long story short, it slipped through my fingers and ended up in a living room as a display piece in Toronto Ontario, 3-4 hrs away. I kept tabs on the bike and contacted the new owner, and through a bizarre set of circumstances,I received a phone call one day out of the blue, the owner of the V11 told me if I could get down there with cash on the weekend while his girlfriend was out of town I could buy the bike;which I did, lol. I own 3 Tonti frame bikes, which I find much easier to work on and more organic and graceful in their design compared to the spine frames;but I've done a ton of niggly little jobs on the bike and I'm growing to love my V11,it is indeed a rocketship compared to my Tontis. What I've come to love and appreciate about the spine frames and my V11,is learning about Dr John and his passion and dedication in it's development. Seeing the design sketches by Marabese, adds to the provenance and my appreciation of this rolling piece of guzzi art history. I've adjusted the MPH risers dozens of times and it's still a frustrating exercise getting just the perfect set up. I often think of Todd Haven (rip) and how choked up Mike Haven was when I dealt with him in obtaining this special piece of kit for my bike. Pete with his Roper plate & the project by members here to get them made. Lucky Phil's tranny improvements & shift linkage extension & Chuck stepping up to get them made and distributed. Everyone that was involved in the shift spring development and manufacture. It's heartwarming to know, that so many passionate people have been involved in the background in making my V11 Lemans, the special motorcycle it is. Gratitude to Jaap's vision & dedication for giving us all this playground, so the magic can happen.

  4. I see a post by @motortouring showing a Burgundy side cover on his bike which he said was manufactured in 2001 which would make this would be one of the earliest carryover models. The switchgear changed somewhere in at a guess late 2001 or early 2002. I have seen a Champagne Le Mans with the same switchgear as the original Sports and Rosso Mandellos but later ones had the newer switchgear. The question that needs answering is has anyone seen what is accepted as the carryover 2002 model available in Grey, Burgundy and Lemon/Lime with the earlier switchgear? If there is such a beast this would mean this configuration was manufactured from late 2001 until early 2003. Rob

  6. UGH! I was so excited that my new seal arrived yesterday I assembled it in my pajamas at about 9 at night. I woke up this morning only to discover I forgot the dust seal. It's a good thing this is an easy task, but seriously!

  8. I did once harbor strange thoughts of actually doing this, and earlier this year I had to stop myself responding to a Ballabio advert, as I knew there would be a good chance in it joining the rest.. which are 2 red frames, the carryover, and 2 black frame long tanks. Bonkers really & I’d like to get a Triumph Scrambler in the next couple of years before I have to downsize to a Honda cub or something similar due to age & arthritic joints And the Griso isn’t going anywhere until the dreaded downsizing becomes a reality

  9. I'm and idiot! I was confident the tires and air pressure are good because, "I know what low tire pressure feels like!" No. The pressure was down front and back. Probably due to the drop in temps and having not ridden the bike since warm weather. I'm an idiot for having not checked it at the nearest station! Hopefully I'll get another chance to test before snow!

  10. 212-380-4400 Piaggio customer service. They can give you all the info on open or closed service campaigns. They were very helpful for me on in investigating three 2001's. Scott is who I dealt with the most.

  12. Yeah, that's the story of my life lately! I am now used to the idea of it costing me another $8.95 for shipping plus the price of the part I neglected to place on the last order. And, it is usually a nickel/dime item.

  17. I visited the Birmingham NEC Motorcycle live bike show on Sunday, which is the main UK expo for the manufacturers and Piaggio didn’t have a stand. Of all the main manufacturers they were the only one absent. Very poor IMO and shows lack of marketing support for their UK dealer network, Honda, Kawasaki, BMW, Triumph, Yamaha etc had massive stands, even BSA with their Indian built Gold Star were there, along with the relaunched Norton rising from the post Stuart Garner ashes

  18. My Rosso Corsa was registered in 2003. I’d be intrigued to know if there was a point when the factory was producing the “carryover” sport in parallel with the long tank (no chinpad) Le Mans. I’ll check the frame no when I return home

  19. V11 handles bloody awful on low pressure tyres. I cooked a rear disc once on the run up to and wa-hayy around the Scottish rally, which i think was just a badly maintained caliper- clean that bugger once a year!

  21. From what I can see , if any of my bikes looked like that , I would prefer to "waller around" on the ground instead of a bike stand .

  26. Exactly the purpose of this thread and those like it. The variations are knowable. I am working on a plan to add a third image to the tank/ steering head views, above, showing the short tank/long (black) frame of 2002 and the 2003 Carryover Sport. edit: Done. Thank you, @MartyNZ Also, I am planning to create a pinned topic specifically for the 2003 Carryover Sport. edit: Done . . .

  29. So, I guess I should post a little follow-up on my 2004 Guzzi Le Mans purchase; I flew to Pensacola on March 16th, to ride the bike home. Unfortunately, I made an unpleasant discovery: the odometer was stuck at 8865 miles. I chose to play it safe and returned to the dealership. It turned out they had never ridden it. They were unaware of the issue. So much for all the emails from the sales guy telling me the bike was fit to make the trip to H'town... I decided to fly back to Houston, and to get the bike shipped instead. At this point, I had lost confidence in what I was told. To be fair, the manager apologized, and based on that experience, they would never take another consignment bike from anybody. They shipped the bike to my door at no extra cost. But I only got it on April 17th... Here it is, the very day after it was delivered to me: The bike has been fully checked by MPH Cycles in Houston, and according to them, the mileage is consistent with the bike's inspection. The only consumables that had to be replaced were the battery and the rear brake pads. All the rest was fine. I am now in the process of fixing the odometer, and it is on its way to Joel Levine Inc in Georgia. There is topic about it. I am also registered for the Motorcycle Grand Tour of Texas, so I have done two of the stops. I use the "TripLog" application to keep track of my mileage. It works fairly well, does not consume your battery since you only enter the start, and the end. And because I only do the "manual start", it is free of subscription. I will keep using it even after my Odometer gets fixed. I have done about 400 miles since I got the bike. But I am not riding it until my Odometer is back. The feeling is fantastic. I am back in the 70's when I was just taking my bike and riding with no destination. Just the pleasure to ride a motorcycle.

  30. This bike has only 5,000 miles. There is no noticeable gear wear. But I do think it's worth removing as much rust as possible from the output shaft. I'll remove the rust from the driveshaft too - then use Staburags grease for the splines (that's the recommended lube for BMW K-bike splines, but the Guzzi is assembled dry). The seals all looked good and with such low mileage I decided to leave them in. Just put a little gear oil around the lip when you re-assemble. First time I did this I was really nervous. But I've done three now, and the other two work. Like a lot of things, it's not so hard once you get into it. And a tranny service can be very expensive.

  31. Admire your work. A six-speed V11 tranny is a thing of beauty. I only painted the rear case, because it was peeling badly. How long are you supposed to wait to put oil in? Read the directions on your adhesive. Then put the tranny in and go riding (some other steps required). I swore I was gonna remember to attach the ground cable to the tranny... but I didn't. Shoulda put the cable with all my other stuff on the table. Now I have to pull one of the bolts out and re-torque it over the cable (after scraping the paint off that spot).

  32. Get the transmission in neutral by disengaging all the gears – by sliding the selector arms. Make sure the pre-selector is in neutral. Dry-fit it to be really sure. Are you sure yet? You don’t want any adhesive on till you’re sure. Are they both in neutral? Really? Are you sure?

  33. It's a little late in the season for wooly worms but I hit one with my front tire in a similar turn and it brought me down immediately. Like hitting a teaspoon of grease just right.
