  1. On a summer evening ride out. MK 1 Le Mans, my ‘99 Silver V11, Cali 111, & a Enfield Bullet 500 complete with monster top-box. The Guzzi’s had to restrict the speed to around 60 mph max, as the 28 bhp Bullet struggled to maintain “big block progress”, but of course it’s not really a fair comparison

  2. So I did my fall PMs, fluid changes/valve adjustments/rebalancing TBs and the sort on the red '03 LM. Had a nice warm sunny day so looked to take advantage and get a ride in before the weather changed. Got about 3-4 miles down the road when the motor started sputtering. In moderate traffic so I'm looking for a real quick bail out place while jabb-ing at the throttle open to try to keep the motor running. Tap the rear brake once or twice to slow down, super squishy flat-tire feeling. Golly, I'm now thinking "how in the world can 2 separate problems crop up at once!" Make it into a church parking lot, throw down the side stand and look down to find gas running from under the tank, down the side of tranny/motor, dripping off the "Y" exhaust pipe, soaking right leg of leathers and into the inside of my right boot. Also see a standing puddle of gas on the ground below where I sit. Now I'm "FREAKING OUT!!!" (as my 5 y/o old granddaughter says). I quickly hop off, roll it forward away from the puddle, grab the tank bag off in case the whole bike goes up in flames. Grab my phone out of tank bag and start to call 911 as I was sure the exhaust would light it off. I give it about 10-15 seconds and .... no ignition/no flames. WHEW, breathing a BIG sigh of relief. Dial up my son to come bail me out with the truck and motorcycle trailer. (My son said he's seen a couple of wrecks at the track due to fuel leaks getting on the rear tire). Back at home, tank off, bike up on the rack, I find that somehow the inner QD at the tank elbow nipple had come disconnected. A few strong arm efforts at reconnection (without stressing the plastic tank elbow too much) I am unable to get it to lock back in. I surmise that my QD rebuilding effort about 6-7 years ago I likely used the wrong material O-rings, resulting in them becoming swollen up and prevent the QD from seating. At least this is my preliminary hypothesis. Have given it a good effort cleaning the boots and leathers, looks like only time will tell if they survive the dousing. Just very grateful that my bike (and me) didn't go up in smoke. I would have been a not-so comical sight on the roadside, hot footing it with my right boot and right leg on fire, as well as my beloved LeMans, heavily involved in a serious gasoline fire. Lesson learned. New connectors (both sides, tank and fuel line) on order from MG Cycle. From now on, when it comes to fuel repairs, there will be no cutting corners here in this Virgina garage.

  3. A friend has an Enfield 500 single. I’m not an Enfield guru but this one is an early 1960’s vintage & was made in the Redditch UK factory. All UK production ceased in 1970 and since then all RE’s have been made in India. His is very well used and not a show pony. He even took it to the classic IOM TT this year. Here it is next to my 03 Sport. Not my cup of tea personally, if I was to downsize it would be to a small block Guzzi, or maybe a Ducati Scrambler, but I have to admit the Interceptor 650 twin looks like a classic Brit twin should

  6. Man! You guys and your food photos are torture;I don't even eat bologna, but I'd kill for that sandwich Joe scarfed down Re the coleslaw question, sadly,we don't have the BBQ palaces up here in Canuckistan like you guys down there;but I grew up in small town Quebec and we have french frie trucks/wagons/shops all over the place. Besides poutine, one of their delicious specialties is a local concoction called a "steamie". A steamed fresh hot dog weiner & bun, with a good hot mustard, buried under a spicey/sweet homemade coleslaw

  9. Ok, so just got home from a work trip where I traveled through western KY. I was told by a local to try Swaggy P's BBQ, man am I glad I did. I ordered a bowl of KY burgoo and a smoked bologna sandwich. The KY burgoo had such good taste from the smoked meat and a kick of heat that lasted for a few hours down the road. During the process of smoking bologna it changes and creates an unreal taste, simply put both were Western KY BBQ perfection.

  10. https://motociclo.com.au/product/tarozzi-clip-ons-high-rise-78/ I can already tell I need to sit up a bit more, especially with a passenger on-board. After some research, these seem like an alternative, mounted under the top triple tree, unlike the stock bars, atop. I realize this would diminish the 2.75" lift. I'll have to measure this distance, to see just how much is lost. and then there is the issue with the lines…

  19. Thank you, gentleman. Such kind words. I'm fond of saying I am more of a custodian than a "moderator." Just keeping things tidied up and uncluttered as best as I may. I do recall my older brother once telling me (I have no idea if this has any basis in fact) that Merlin, of King Arthur fame, was not a "wizard' at all, but was possessed of a good memory and used it to effect solutions for others throughout his life. So, yeah, I try to remember where others have advised us, often expertly, throughout our forum's history and guide others to, or gather and present, the archival content. In that light, "moderator" seems a bit stifling and "custodian" perhaps a bit underpaid. "Wizard DeLuxe " has a nice ring to it . . .
