Members on here have opened these up in a couple of ways. Finding those threads is probably harder than the job. I 'cut' open an earlier white face tach and found it cheap and an unwelcome place to work. I replaced it with a used one I found for $100. If yours is broken, you have nothing to lose so I would have a go at fixing it. I doubt you'll find parts anywhere other than in used "parts" gauges. I had some later black face ones I sold awhile back to a member who was wanting to do the same project as yourself. Don't recall who it was but would be a good source for info. Aside from that, I'd spring for the Speedhuts. Waaaaay head in tech and quality, and beautiful.3 points

The cable and drive are A-OK! I hooked up a drill and spun it up. I guess the speedo gear must have taken a dump. I'm apt to open it and repair it myself, if I can get the parts, and it's obvious. I've repaired a few speedos in the past, different cars and bikes and such. Joel Levine has offered to take care of it for me, but hasn't offered a price. Any idea what that cost? btw, I set the valves this weekend, and adjusted the forks a bit more. Ran it to work again today; no leaks, runs well, and the suspension is much stiffer, more to my liking. I'll set the sag this week while my father is visiting for Christmas. Dialing it in little by little.3 points

Pretty sure my preparation/installation of the Speedhut took up four or five pages of that "Installing . . ." thread. Far from Plug&Play. Worth it? I hope. I just could not bring myself to buy a fourth Veglia speedo and still pain over the fussy angle drives and all the little plastic gears. Looks like I put a couple years into "being interested", six weeks with order/design/delivery, and about five weeks on the actual installation. Big improvement over what my Sport had gotten to . . . Yep, learn your fuel range and how that is reflected on whatever odometer you are using. "Fuel Level Warning Light" is for entertainment purposes only . Expect an early "short/ chin-pad" tank to deliver maybe 5.1 US gallons before requiring the roadside "tip-slosh" . . . Sputter-out sooner in a downhill right-hander.3 points

The red paint is thicker. That decreases the clearance. Also, the front zerk has a special antigravity coating that repels the grease gun.2 points

In my opinion THIS is the best bet out there and at not such a terrible price if you really want one. considering is it has all the bits you need to mount it except the 2 hose clamps ..which you can get anywhere..the mounting bracket, rubber bushings and proper inserts, stainless nuts etc..all are not so easy to find.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/354444595918?hash=item52868b52ce:g:6RYAAOSwjNJjld1A&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsHvewL77P4baGc71WNa4DCsyJUeuYaBURmdZpUIlhjPM09NB8esyOF2RieDI7fowUGwapcgyGPWDEBXA1X%2Fj%2BJkUXGtHGmv2fp2Sg1TdgdnDWOWlpyfJLZ3sHb%2FT89s0Gyj68UAZOgxoV%2BEduWp9eS7nOQuF%2BXvoTlwGs5d9SOtsBA8l82eSxXEx%2FSoS0YyROTQc31Q3tlnHm%2BoEJ7OU4L7ALvN4HE%2Fxepj0lgIPTK4U|tkp%3ABk9SR6ai68qlYQ1 point

Just thinking how fun it is to ride 100 mph on a bike, and then imagine how fast 200 mph feels on a Moto GP bike and then another 100 mph on top of that - that's truly insane - must be a hell of an adrenaline rush! The Bugatti is just an amazing piece of art...couldn't agree more! I wonder what the highest mileage Bugatti in the world has...probably not more than a few thousand miles I should imagine...it's difficult to add the miles when you're just doing Sunday drives around Monaco or Dubai!1 point

Maaan, I just went thru this 20 pages thread like I was reading a novel. What a saga, stupendous! Was kind of left hanging at the end though and wondering whatever happened to this bike... Might it resurface one day? And all this work gone into creating this splendid machine and never riding it!!??1 point

Having lived here since the start of '96, I have to say "mostly". You really don't want to get caught up in the burocracy here. But SD is pretty good, though. I've bought stuff there a couple of times, and it always turned up promptly and was all correct.1 point

Also, take time to inspect the cable exit to the bell crank. An angle like this will eventually fray the cable: Angle the bracket for a straight shot:1 point

Early and later differ slightly. At one time, the Moto Guzzi parts system had the part number wrong for the early (1999-2001) V11 and you would receive the later (bent tube) cable. Its adjuster is obvious: On earlier V11, the connection is straight and you pull back the rubber boot to expose the cable adjuster/ lock ring. Mine shows alot of slack taken up. I like my throttle tight. Like the shortcut thru Nayook to Noojee . . .1 point

Has anyone rented the second cottage, yet, for the spring Kentucky SpineRaid ?1 point

Sounds good. I'm retired Army, so I don't camp out of continuing protest. Seriously, I always take two days for my runs to Kentucky. If taking a southerly route, usually RON at hotel in Princeton, W.V. Stay in touch. Emails are better for me than PM's. Bill - wrhagan AT earthlink DOT net1 point

I use a combination of idiot light and trip odometer to determie my fuel needs & range. I've run out of fuel on my Eldo twice last summer cause I'm an old fool and that bike has neither trip odometer or idiot light and l ran with both fuel taps open versus one open/one closed so I'd have some reserve fuel. Glad you made it to a gas station. Yeah, riding boots ain't made for walking. Art1 point

I got my foxes fixes at Joel Levine. Docc, has a complete set-up from Speed Hut that's a near replica of the stock gauges with Guzzi eagles and everything. Just search here and you can probably find the link and order the exact same one.1 point

This guy had one for sale a couple of months ago, but the listing closed. Maybe you could contact him and ask. The price was good. https://www.ebay.com/itm/364001406540?hash=item54c02cae4c:g:URcAAOSwWKdjB-7t&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAoHvRSgDK9%2FZtCXarQWbuFm9XemjrmLqhNgWPIRIrnNnrHSJiwGG5BudPuktlduxUWdvOtxb33jR31Hd3J24rxawnLeNxXqxLzaGMMIVr%2FHJIz64fPprWOmqwrkF%2BPyBEsworWRIsp%2BCPQNZR6BacfJ54Qq0xKgdMkyljuRZS0fSkakwElkvpxbKp08E%2FpgKvTPtGaLixtQ3l5DE%2Bpr81Znw%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR6bHuqT0YA1 point

I tell you what, if anyone can finally figure out exactly WHY the ShortFrame front Zerk is so impossible (compared to the LongFrame), that is worth ten points and the championship . . .1 point

This is the V11 Sport I wish I had bought. Lesson learned - buy the $6k bike with >$10k already spent on it rather than the $3k bike that needs $6k just to get "right". VT4L1 point

Gearbox plug came today complete with O-ring and thread protector. Nice polished finish (better than pictured in the part reference). Just under $10US shipped from Illinois, USA. https://www.zoro.com/parker-hollow-hex-plug-m16-x-15-metric-vsti16x15edcf/i/G5007764/?q=G5007764 Very tidy! Now to pull the tank and fish out the cable housing.1 point

Haha, right? They accepted that I'm trying to "replicate" my existing gauges and offered to delete their logo, but cannot put "Veglia" on them. I decided not to ask for : Vaguelia PORBETTI ooooh, but I am tempted . . .1 point

Congrats! (?) At this point I'm thinking Speedhut should just start advertising Moto Guzzi gauge packages and pay a licensing fee for the logo LOL Good luck Docc!1 point

So the gauges came in. I had initially ordered them with all with no front buttons but they called me after they left the art department and were headed to the assembly department that only the speedo and tacos could be had without buttons. If I had known this I would have not ordered them as such. It was too late to bach up. Now I'm stuck with the ugly cheap switch they provided and I' currently looking for another switch. I had to open up the holes for the speedo and oil gauges but everything fits now. I now need to order my LED warning indicators. I'm going with APEM 6mm panel mount LEDs. I've used these with good success on a previous project. They are rated IP67 and have built in resistors. I'm using the flush design but they are available in other styles and sizes. Once I get the holes drilled the panel will be off to be powder coated. I haven't decided if I going with flat or sating black. Although wrinkle black might be a possible color too. Thanks for the compliment! I've ordered the new gauges with no front buttons. I also plan on switching the gauge lights so they aren't on all the time. Using the park light as a feed is a good idea. For idiot light lights I'll only need neutral and fuel. I'm also adding another light for the Clearwater driving lights which will be triggered by the high beam.1 point

So I've just ordered my gauges from Speedhut. Actually this is my second order. I decided to be different. It sure was nice that they are having a sale through today. Anyway here is my template of my idea for the perfect gauge cluster. Now I have to find a buyer for my first set.1 point

The Veglia Whiteface Speedometer on my 2001 Sport has been jumpy since I bought it with 12k miles on it a few years ago. The trip odo stem fell out a few months ago and was epoxied back in. I have 34k miles on it now and the Speedo finally packed it in and froze at 85 mph. It unfroze and finally froze again forever. I shopped around and got it repaired by Joel Levine in Lafayette Ga. He turned it around in a week and charged me $294 incl shipping. Got it back and reinstalled it and it works fine for the brief ride I took (in the rain). Speedo is steady and trip odo is turning. I think this is cheaper than getting a Speedhut replacement or from the two other repair shops in the US. The turn around was definitely quicker than anyone else. A couple of notes. I broke the light socket unawares. Got another one from Harpers and replaced both lamps 3V (for Speedo and Tach). I also notched the dash housing so I could install and remove the housing without taking the trip odo stem out. I couldn't get the housing to match up when I was trying to screw the stem back in in the first place. It was much easier just to screw the stem in and put the housing on. So far, so good. Joel tells me that Veglia weren't really good in the first place and the quality only got worse. For now, I recommend him.1 point

So $294 and he didn't spend 5 min painting the needle while he had it apart because he wasn't told to!!! He wouldn't get my recommendation. Ciao1 point

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. I think the price might be similar to some of the Speedhut units, depending on options selected. But it's certainly less work than fitting a Speedhut into the stock gauge cups - and you don't have to replace the tach in order to get your gauges to match.1 point

I have to say I really like these gauges, and the various options they offer, especially when so many functions are packed into one or two gauges neatly. As long as my Veglias hold up I won't bother, but if they fail or start to look rough I may have to put these gauges on my list. Thanks for the detailed instructions and review. It will be very helpful for anyone following in your footsteps.1 point

Hahaha probably not your kind of miles Scud (1000's per weekend!), but it would be a great honor to put down a couple hundred with you here in Tucson! Lots of neat places to go in my area. Also Roy, aside from the items mentioned above, my favorite reason to go to the GPS version was to snub my nose at my Italian fratelli, bypassing at least one of the many 'medieval' mechanical devices on the bike. If the ITI clocks were Swiss made for example, I'd do what is necesary to "keep a cable in 'em". But after reading about how fragile they were, the incorrect math on some of the tumblers, and issues with the transmission/cable interface, It was a no brainer to me replace the gauges with a fully electronic GPS version. It was also nice to not have to run a Hall-effect sensor to someplace on the wheel etc.Somebody paid a lot of money to put those 24 satellites up there...might as well take atvantage!1 point

Am I the only one with a non GPS speedo? Mine doesn't have the delay What other options does the GPS give you? Altitude?1 point

ah technology... it either frees us or freezes us. I've gotten very comfortable with GPS navigation on my dirt bike, in fact, used the handheld Garmin on the handlebars as a speedometer. Anyway, I've been trying to figure out how to use the stock gauge cover, because I'd prefer not to cut it down. Here's what I've got so far: A bracket made from home-electrical parts - the stuff that is supposed to be used to mount lamps in ceiling boxes. I cut the ends of the bracket and ground them round-ish to fit inside the cover. Here's how I think I can glue the brass cap nut to the gauge, then screw in the whole assembly to replicate the base of the stock gauge, where the rubber vibration dampers screw in. With the threads to adjust the height, and some play along the grooves in the bracket, I should be able to use the cap nuts to secure the whole assembly. I suppose I'll need to cover that huge hole like Roy did, but for now, it's nice to see how everything fits. I also ordered some 80mm O-rings to place around the gauges between 1) gauge and dash, and 2) dash and plastic cover. I think these may do the job of the rubber bushings that go around the stock gauges - to keep them from rattling in the dash. Comments or suggestions to improve?1 point

(Third) Veglia odometer locked at 29,400. Ordered a Speedhut gauge set just now. Really nervous about the whole thing . . . Thanks, so much, to everyone who has posted their experiences and all of the details to consider. As of this writing, $420US for the pair (GPS speedo and custom faces). [edit/ 20 May 2017: final cost after ticking every box and adding every option: $559.90US. I spent another $50-60 on various fasteners and trim pieces and electrical supplies.]0 points

He wouldn't even talk to me about the ITI speedometer from my 2004 Ballabio,he said he doesn't work on anything that new and told me to throw it away and buy a new one.0 points
