  1. Installed a "indestructible" Scud shift spring, bearing and Lucky Phil Extender yesterday in friends '02 V11 Lemans (with 70K miles on it). He was very excited for the improvements and once the case sealant sets up, will fill/adjust and test run. I told him he is now officially a member of the very exclusive V11 "not-so-secret" mod club now. Once again, continuing THANKS! to all for the detailed photos, discussion and collaboration in upgrading another iconic machine. (This was the 2nd tranny I have done the spring/bearing on and it all came back to me very quickly. I have one extender and 2 spare springs left, which are still pending install on my virgin champagne '02 LeMans. But I can say that I do feel "qualified" now with the improvement process).

  2. I recently discovered on mine, while replacing a cheap plug cap that broke, that the premium NGK cap on the other side had open circuited completely. Don't trust appearances. What gets measured gets done.

  3. I recall the resistor is 5,000Ω and the ignition wire is another 5,000Ω. Add the Wiggle Test: attach meter for the resistance test, then wiggle the wire and connector looking for variations/opens in the reading.

  4. I went ahead and installed one bearing so that I could measure the length that my spacer would need to be. Sure enough, it needs to be .014 inches longer to not bind. So my new bearings would have had a shortened life. I’ll get some .015 shim stock and make a shim.

  5. Check to see if some automotive valve spring shims won't get you there. I have a few, 15mm x 32mm and 22mm x 35mm.

  8. That would make me suspicious of a damaged ignition wire, spark plug cap/resistor, or the connection between them . . .

  10. Just for interest's sake: In Victoria, Australia, both engine number and frame number are in the papers, and the police go looking for them both if they do a vehicle check. In Germany, the frame number (VIN) is in the papers, but the engine number is not. Given the reputation for being finicky about details that Germans have (which often bears up in reality...) I don't understand that at all.

  11. Getting the bike to idle high enough is what the idle stop screw(s) are for. After all of the other steps are completed, simply use the left idle stop and put the idle where you (and the bike) like it.

  12. Do you have a drain bung with a magnet in it? Just in case there is still a few bits in there.

  14. Sorry, Mick..I came down with covid symptoms, and was cast into the basement with no computer. For what ever reason, My ancient tablet doesn't play well with the forum. Checked on the phone and I have a p m from you and bing bong. As soon as the dungeon mistress removes the leg iron's I'll get right on it..Hopefully this week. (!)

  15. I'm not sure I have my priorities exactly right. I would be, like, "Hang on, honey. I've got to reach out to this guy in The States about some freakishly obscure motorcycle part."

  16. Ok, three of the absolutely positively last run are spoken for. @Scud.. don't worry about buying any unless you really want one. I took the material I already had along with the little airplane job, and the water jet guy didn't charge me any setup.. he already had the program in the can, and I gave him a file so all he had to do is pick up one corner of the material I gave him to cut the exhaust flanges. Nice guy..

  17. (snapping suspenders, tamping corncob pipe) Back in the day, our local EAA chapter used to get a night per year at the Dayton Air Force museum. It was after hours, and we could get in anything we wanted, wiggle the controls, yell, CLEAR! etc. I'm not much of a warbird guy.. but it was a hoot. Most of the fighters reminded me of the old adage.. an elephant is a mouse designed by the military. Except the Spit. The cockpit is just right. Everything falls readily to hand, as they say. Good visibility from the cockpit, comfortable. That is one warbird I'd give a go. The wierdest? The ME262. Those Germans.. who else would have rudder pedals that go up and down?

  18. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few" was from a speech by Churchill regarding the airmen flying mostly Spitfires during the Battle of Britain. A bit of a stretch with the wordplay on my part, sorry about that. And yup, wingtip salute. Analogy is annoying I know and yet I persist in inflicting them on all those around me because .
