  1. Budget to have to replace swingarm and shock linkage bearings as well as a new shock. All the CARC bikes use the same shock linkages and swingarm, the only differences are shock length and upper mount location which governs suspension travel. With a Norge you can go to a Stelvio length shock easily enough and it will quicken up the steering a tad as well as offering more travel but of course it means a small increase in seat height.

  3. I remember back in the '90's driving by the track and seeing this guy on the street the day before the "500". I said, if the cops are this cool, this is the place to party. My brother and I slept in our car parked on the street before the big race. I think the revelry stopped about 3am and then the bomb goes off at 5 to alert race fans that track parking opens up. IIRC the City police as well as the Sheriff's Dept each HAD a drill team. This was one of the coolest things seeing them to all kinds of precision riding before the start of the Indy 500. The last time I saw them was in 2000. Since then the Motorcycle Drill team has been disbanded- at least it's not there for the big race.

  5. Yeah, raised windscreens can be a mixed bag if not designed with some actual aerodynamic R&D, and I think a lot of them fall into that category. And of course then there is the aesthetic component that may matter to some owners. The raised windscreens like my MRA do make the lines of the bike a little weird to be honest. I've toyed with putting the original screen back on at some point and seeing if either is really that much better from an aerodynamic standpoint because the original does look better. But again, the "tall" MRA I have, which is now about 20 years old, is a great quality product.

  6. The black oil cooler cover appears to have been stock on early V11 Sport models up through 2001ish, and based upon some quick Google-ing, the silver version appears to have been stock at least on the Rosso Mandello. See @docc 's post above with the part numbers for reference which confirms that observation on my part

  7. I got my MRA extended touring screen from Twisted Throttle,I "think" they may be the only authorized dealer in NA, but I could be wrong on that. Iirc it had to be ordered in before they shipped it to me, 3-4 wks total to my door and it qualified for free shipping due to the price, which I notice due to the exchange rate has actually gone down $5,lol. I went with the "Smoke Grey" there's a picture of it in my gallery photos if you want to take a look at it. https://twistedthrottle.com/shop/body-and-fairing/windshields-accessories/windshields/mra-touringscreen-windshield-for-moto-guzzi-v11-lemans-02-06-5/

  8. It's a German company, so having it sent to USA might be expensive. They have a very good reputation here, so you might like to enquire. https://www.mrashop.de/modellbezogene-produkte/motoguzzi/v11-le-mans/alle-bj/7140/v11-lemans-originalformscheibe-om-alle-baujahre?number=I4025066089666 Look around on the site. They also offer a higher screen, if that should be interesting for you. Edit: I didn't notice initially, but there is a button on there that allows the choice of "english" as language. The translation is acceptable.

  9. I have no qualifications to post any kind of synopsis to such an extraordinary gathering of equally extraordinary people, but I always end up with a small selection of favorite images that reflect my feelings in absentia . . .

  10. I wondered what the oil cooler grille would look like in silver versus black! I'm going to steal those photos and put them in the oil cooler cover thread for reference

  11. I like my motorbikes to look like they came out of the assembly line yesterday. Independently of their millesime. I am not so much on time erosion. My V11 exhibits plenty of signs it has been here and there, and some of them make me cringe and unhappy. My right hand side initially immaculate exhaust has a small scratch, after I dropped the bike. Each time I wash the Le Mans, I try to ignore that it is there, but I can't, and it brings pain. I considered replacing that exhaust just for that, but Stay in Tune did not Stay in business. When I was young, a friend of mine had her nose broken playing sport. The patina rationale did not hold water. The nose job did.... There is also a great debate on artificially aged guitars. All my guitars look like new. I take great care of them. If you follow a little bit the guitar market, you will find out that people are willing to pay more to purchase a guitar that looks like it was used and abused for several years. So, I guess Patina makes sense. Not to me though. I like my glaciers to remain as they were before...

  12. The guard on my oil cooler is either homemade or aftermarket. It screens out rabbits and low flying seagulls, but I cleaned out about a cupful of dirt and grit from between the cooler fins before I painted it. I think I need a fender extender.

  14. I got this high-quality custom kit with my 03 Le Mans, and thought I might install it one day but have decided against it. Very nice billet aluminum risers with Guzzi logo etched in two spots. The brake and clutch lines are Spiegler braided stainless lines. Instructions included. Rise is 2.5" $135 shipped (in the lower 48). Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

  15. And of course, a refresher on the two color options for the first year 2002 V11 Lemans

  16. The only year/model I have been able to derive production number is the 2000 V11 Sport, all three colors (no other models were produced in 2000), by using the starting VIN serial number for the year and the actual VINs of in the Gearbox Recall that included V11 into model year 2001. My Sport is #1,531 of 3,529. There has been some conjecture that production numbers increased as Aprilia took over and introduced the LeMans as well as the various other LongFrame models. I have seen no confirmation of that supposition or any references to actual production numbers by year, by model, nor (especially) by color. Nice refresher on model year changes:

  18. I had an MRA briefly. It was easier to tuck under the wind. But for most riding I sit more upright and it put the wind at my helmet level. I went back to the stock height, which kept the wind lower. For reference, I am 6'0" tall.

  20. A reference photo from @Joe of the grille in silver, which along with a different aesthetic also being silver provides a better view of how the cover is mounted.

  21. I found a wrap or two of Teflon® tape (plumber's pipe thread tape) around the bleeder's thread necessary to bleed effectively and stop any weeping fluid from the bleeder.

  22. Took the DB killers out of the Mivvs today, she is woke now , wow, I like the engine braking almost as much as acceleration. She ain't stock now..... Plus I have an oil cooler guard, in silver I've only owned this bike about a year & a half...

  23. Thank you, gentleman. Such kind words. I'm fond of saying I am more of a custodian than a "moderator." Just keeping things tidied up and uncluttered as best as I may. I do recall my older brother once telling me (I have no idea if this has any basis in fact) that Merlin, of King Arthur fame, was not a "wizard' at all, but was possessed of a good memory and used it to effect solutions for others throughout his life. So, yeah, I try to remember where others have advised us, often expertly, throughout our forum's history and guide others to, or gather and present, the archival content. In that light, "moderator" seems a bit stifling and "custodian" perhaps a bit underpaid. "Wizard DeLuxe " has a nice ring to it . . .
