  1. Roof rack from Hooke. Rooftop tent from Inspired Overland. Went to Silverton to get up to Cinnamon Pass. Couldn’t take the full Alpine Loop as Engineer Pass was still closed. Cinnamon had just been opened a week or so before we got there. You can see how deep the snow was here. To the top of the tent is 7.5ft I want to go to Ouray but next time.

  4. Ha ha She fancied Maccas (McDonalds) so off to see the clown I went... Bloody hell now I'm not so sure which relay actually came outa # 1 ! I thought I had all GEI's but think I pulled a Pro Quip PM 2512X ( 12 VDC 20/15 a 5 x pin ) outa there...? I was at work and interrupted a few times during it all so can't be sure! She has GEI relays in all spots for sure now though. Anyways I'll keep an eye on this... Cheers Ps just went out and tried the bike. She fired up better than has done of late so fingers crossed. Pps won't EVER have another Cheesy Angus burger again!

  5. Noticed Mass lists these. Far better design than the Mistral. Looks like a Stucchi copy. https://www.massmoto.it/prodotto/collettori-secondari-x-pipe-2-in-2-in-acciaio-inox-aisi-304-moto-guzzi-v11-sport-le-mans/ Phil

  6. I think he is only talking about boarding, Phil, not loading. I've seen the process a number of times. They call up a block of seats and get them in, then the next block. Good idea, I reckon. It minimises the time you spend standing in the aisle waiting for some Richard to get his shit together so you can get past to your own seat (and hold up the people behind you who want to get past...)

  10. MPH is one of the too few places where you can get your vintage motorcycle looked after; At one time they were a Moto Guzzi dealership, but have parted ways with Piaggio's take over. I visited with them today, August 7th 2023, and was informed Mike, the owner has sold the car part of the business Mike Haven Automotive, and they are going to move the Motorcycle repairs to where Mike lives in Hempstead Texas, Waller county. The move should take place before the end of 2023. Mike says this will save them the commute, and will improve the turn around time for the bikes, which is currently around six weeks.

  11. Sitting here waiting for first leg of return trip back to Oregon. Copenhagen to Reykjavik. Icelandic Air does something I've never seen any other airline do...load a plane from back to front. What a simple concept that works. What's with these American airlines anyway? I'm anxious to get back. Right before I left I picked up this beauty. Been looking for a while for a low milage single owner Griso. This one popped up less than 200 miles from me. So much to do to get ready to leave had no time to register it. But Monday morning it will be real easy for me to get up real early to be first in line at DMV after spending time here.

  12. So, update: She's back on the road w/ a temp fix. I got her put back together with the OG spacer and shims, well shim actually (total length is 113.1 mm). I've done 200+ miles, hit triple digit mph at least once, so far. No issues. I'm waiting on delivery of parts and will update once completed. Again, thank you everyone that pitched in on this. all your suggestions and help was invaluable. Cheers

  15. few more miles from previous Mike's MPH location, unfortunately. It will be from 12 miles to 48 for me; besides the fact that MPH was just off I-10, so a 15 minutes ride to a 45 minutes ride. As for Buc-ee's difference in Ethanol free Octanes, I don't know what to think about it. Buc-ee's Katy is located in the middle of a fast growing residential area. A lot of the people working in the Energy Corridor live there. The surroundings is community after community. I am guessing most of the vehicles using E-free gas don't need high octanes. They probably sell more by keeping it 87 Octanes and cheap. What puzzles me, is the 90 and 92 figures. I would have thought; take the usual fuel, and don't blend Ethanol with it. So 89 or 93 would make more sense. But I am missing something obviously.

  16. That is very close to the way Singapore laws have been in force for at least the last 20 years. And on the subject of tuning and cans... I agree with the idea of just putting whatever exhaust you prefer (due to weight, looks, and sound) and then do the basic tune-up with the stock map. After that, you can play with other maps if you are so inclined.

  19. We have a thing at work called a "surface". I believe it is a Microsoft product. Runs windows, and is effectively a normal Windows PC, but in the "tablet with touchscreen" form. I'd be looking for something like that. I have no real idea if the operating system on an i-Pad is the same as in a Mac computer, but believe it is not (i.e. Guzzidiag wouldn't run).

  20. Yep, I'm a pilot. The plane is loaded correctly according to cargo and passengers, just not front to back as is usually the case. Maybe I'm missing your point on how that affects flight characteristics when it is all in range before takeoff.
    1 point
  21. Yes I thought we were talking about loading pax the a/c so on the ground how it's loaded with regards to passengers boarding can be an issue and it's often overlooked by everyone to some extent except the engineer on the ground as if he's on the ball he'll see the floating nosewheel issue. Loading a freighter is a different story and just about everyone involved is highly aware of tipping the a/c although accidents still happen. Most heavy freighters use a tail steady during loading. In flight you can walk around at will, no real issue. The autopilot is continually trimming the pitch anyway. Phil

  24. So was I Mick. Boarding a commercial jet can sometimes be a bit interesting for the ground crew due to weight and balance of the pax loading from the rear. On Boeing 737 800's I would sometimes see the nosewheel an inch off the ground and need to stop baggage being loaded into the rear hold or stop boarding and get the porters to load the front hold because they were loading pax from the rear and even without baggage in the aft hold we had an issue in some circumstances. Rear boarding first or boarding from the rear is not always an option depending on the aircraft, the parking bay, the fuel load, the baggage etc. Phil

  25. You may be right, docc, but the one he replaced (which maybe brought the improvement) was the only one that wasn't a GEI.

  27. Took the bike into the office again yesterday... Hard to start and had to toggle the kill switch to get her to do so! Got to servo and same shit as the other month, wouldn't take any throttle when trying to accelerate onto the highway! Bugger not this again.. Definitely not battery this time as has been ridden at least once a week for some time now. Once again she came good after a few kays! So,when quiet at work I pulled the seat and removed relays to check... pretty dusty /dirty in there so cleaned the base and actually replaced # 1 as although it was a 5 pin it wasn't a GEI like the others...odd.Started ok. After work at 2.30pm she fired right up and ran like a champ through the heavy traffic for 10-15 kays till clear of Cranbourne and open road and still no issues! When I got to the fun bits she was still running brilliantly and had a ripper of a ride home! The new settings up front (yep still experimenting with forks) meant it was probably the hardest I've ever ridden this stretch... so I reckon I'm very very close! Still glowing this morning! Cheers Ps For every up there's a downer... Think I may have a wee (hopefully a wee one) surprise in the mail in next few weeks... Safety cameras ... Bollocks it's bloody revenue raising nothing more!!

  30. The total environmental emission impact of all transport, so that means cars, trucks, aircraft, shipping, motorcycles etc is reliably estimated to be 16%. So road transport from memory is estimated at around 9% total. Ever wondered why private road transport seems to take the brunt of the ire for "environmental" issues? Because it's a soft target is why. There is an loose agenda out there in it's infancy articulated by some in influential positions to eventually ban private transport particularly if you live in a large city or regional area. I can foresee the day where you need to have a car permit to own a car and a government agency will asses your personal circumstances and right to own one. If you live in a city and want to do a "road trip" for your vacation or other reasons then you will need to apply for a trip permit to rent a car. It will happen under the guise of environmental sustainability but remember cars and personal transport are a large part of the individuals sense of freedom and there are influential global institutions that don't really see personal freedom as a prime consideration for global governance. I sound like a conspiracy theorist I know but I can see this coming. I pray I'm totally wrong and part of me thinks "well I'll be long gone when it happens" but now I'm not so sure, things are moving faster than ever. Phil

  32. This is certainly an issue. But I am confident there will be locations were the beaver and his acolytes will never set paw. On my third consecutive year of Texas touring, I have observed how Gas Stations in small towns have the same purpose as small cafés back in the 60's. The beaver is impersonal and business only. It is going to work in places with major transit. Similar to what you have on European highways. I would dare to say the concept is older than Buc-ee's. These European gas stations offer regional and local products, places to rest, to eat. Plenty of amenities: free air refill, free water, limited mechanical assistance... at Buc-ee's, you find none of that. Buc-ee's is only interested in getting you out of dodge once you purchased something. They lure you in with their glittering bathroom, but it works. Small towns like to mingle while they have breakfast. Buc-ee's only has commercial smiles to offer. They are not going to set business in Terlingua.

  33. One of the major attraction the beaver has over other stopping places, including Texan, is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. They literally have someone there all the time, cleaning; they have hot water which helps to clean visors. This makes a big difference to a lot of people. As for their gas quality, I think I remember a study comparing brand less gas, such as Costco and similar, and the result was Buc-ee's' gas is good.

  36. That's a personal choice imo. Some on the forum still run the alm flywheel, and some have replaced. I ran mine 13000 mi before I replaced it. It had no problems... just the one in my head. I got tired of the worry. I finally bit the bullet and did it myself. I am not a tech. I am a hobbyist mechanic. My greatest encouragement to do the job was this forum support and the realization that many tech's were probably more likely to f it up than I was. If I had had a tech I trusted I would have paid to have it done. My job turned out fine. I read all the threads, consulted a few members when I got stumped, and got to fix the nasty engine paint at the same time. I do know a shop now that I trust for something I can't handle, 100 mi. away in Cincinnati. Whatever you decide, find some Guzzi friends nearby.
