  5. I always make sure that I turn the engine forwards before valve adjustment too. We know the thrust washer on the forward end of the camshaft can wear on the fwd face, so the shaft is loaded aft when running. I assume this is because the cam lobes run off-center of the cam followers to rotate the followers. Turning the engine backwards may let the camshaft move forward and change the valve clearance. Also the oil pump will deprime itself so oil pressure will be slower to rise on the next start.

  6. Yes, one of the wires has broken just where they disappear into the epoxy. I’ve managed to dremel the epoxy out and solder the wire back together, and then filled it with new epoxy. I’ve yet to test it but at the moment it seems I’ve been lucky as it’s not leaking! I’d still like a new one though because if my repair fails the first I’ll know about it is when I run out of petrol.

  7. Sat unused on paddock stands in my garage for +8 years so considering letting my Red/Grey Lemans go to a new home. Had replacement Speedo at some point before I bought so total mileage is not known but suspect less than 20,000 based on condition and conversation with previous owner. New Battery Buell mirrors and indicators Ducati Monster tail light Ohlins rear shock Roper plate MY ECU Mistral x-over and M4 silencers with dB killers Also have most of the original parts and probably more that I've forgotten. If anyone in the UK is interested please PM me for more details or pictures, located in Sheffield UK Just MOT'd replacing engine oil and brake fluid this weekend. Dave

  12. I had no issues turning the motor by the rear tire, just use 5th or 6th gear with both sparkplugs out and it makes it very easy to turn (leverage is your friend). Using the rear tire also makes it easy to make sure you turn the motor the right direction (you don't want to turn the motor backwards for any of this). I also had no issues using a straw to feel for the piston. In fact, I have never used the markings on the flywheel for any of this. Not sure if the markings are even there. I don't like sticking solid objects down the sparkplug hole, I prefer things like straws that will give if things go sideways. A straw can't mess anything up.

  13. Well, it’s been an interesting day. I can’t figure out how to post pictures with my phone, so my too many words will have to do. Left home about 7:30 and had a fine ride for an hour or so . Then a bee or wasp got into my helmet and started to work.. Anyway, that hurt — as in really, really hurt. I’m not a bee sting virgin. In fact, a week or so ago, two hornets got me. Those really hurt, too, but this was worse. Stopped at a Walmart and got some meds, but the pharmacist was understandably reluctant to give me anything that might make me drowsy as I was riding a motorcycle . Oh, then it rained. Lots of it. Actually, for a very short time. But long enough to douse me completely. Finally made it to the hotel. Took off my helmet, looked in the mirror… and screamed. Let’s just say the puffiness is impressive. Mitch McConnell’s wattle has nothing on mine. So, here i sit in a crowded urgent care waiting room hoping to get something better. Will see you tomorrow. Though you may not want to see what I look like! Bill
