  1. Woah, before you buy a new regulator, how about cutting out the bad connector, and crimping the wires. A bad connector doesn't mean you have a bad regulator

  2. This happened on my 2010 MG V7, replaced the connector, kept the old regulator, been good ever since.

  3. Our V11 Sport/LeMans relays, and the vulnerable "relay bases", have derived solutions: Those who carry on with sub-standard relays or keep playing "relay roulette" just didn't get the memos . . .

  4. +1. I think that a poor ground from the regulator to the bike is the reason for many overcharged batteries and failed regulators.

  6. I think I posted that I had a failed Omron a few weeks ago. Replaced it with one my dozen take-offs (I have two bikes). Actually haven't played relay roulette since then. I also use Deox spray and CRC contact cleaner.

  7. Weekend after US Labor Day in September (6th-8th), Tellico Plains, Tennessee. Even Honda are welcomed, but may leave with a prominently featured Moto Guzzi sticker on the fairing . . .

  9. For the fun of it, I checked out Tellico Plains on Goggle Maps. I wish I hadn't... If only we had roads like that in the Netherlands! *drool emoji

  10. Yeah, been there done that. Those pin connectors in the background were blued/cooked on mine. If you've checked stator output and output is good and you are able to get new stator terminals & plug that'll save you a couple dollars. My stator/regulator wiring had got hot enough to melt the insulation into the wire strands of the stator so, I replaced the stator too.

  11. Wow, I totally missed the fact that BMW was putting power (servo-assist units) brakes on motorcycles. That must be weird, but BMW has been a true leader in the industry on many occasions, including the enormous ABS units on the early K-bikes.

  17. Sure, while your at it, test the voltage output of the "alternator." Inspect the two yellow wires where they attach to the stator under the alternator cover for breakage and/or heat damage. Be certain your regulator has a dedicated ground strap from the case to the timing chest and the connections are cleaned and "treated." Inspect the 30 amp regulator/charging fuse for signs of heat damage. (Might benefit from more than one point of correction.)

  18. Curtis has an analog era motorcycle shop, & thank God he does. I’ve had friends that ordered parts from an Italian manufacturer and he never got the order filled. But he has sold me oil gaskets & maintenance items with no problem. He also found a new old stock mud guard upstairs for my 01 Rosso, for cheaper than the scratched up salvage yard price.

  21. I have two. One is built into my heated grip controller. BikeMaster Heated Grips With LCD Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NYBZ4CQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_cz7RBbZ6WGJ5R The other one is from Battery Tender. Battery Tender 081-0157 Black Quick Disconnect Plug with LCD Voltage Display https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DJ5KE9A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Xz7RBbRBV4RCE I thought maybe the grip controller was lying to me so I plugged in the other one. Got a similar result.

  22. Really just the battery, buddy. The pic I posted of the melted wiring was just tongue-in-cheek. (That's what happens when the main battery ground to the gearbox fails.) You could certainly be damaging some bulb filaments, relays, and fuses. But mostly it's about the battery. Seems your Regulator/Rectifier has failed. Mine seem to go about every 30-35,000 miles.

  23. Misbehaving again. Yes, there is an extra ground to the regulator. Regulator is warm but not burning hot.
