And here is a photo of the issue with the tab being too long, and my dirt-biker-level of remedy. So much fun reviewing that thread. We did good work, gentlemen (especially @Chuck the engineer). And there were so many entertaining side-bars in that thread, like the whole metric/inch conversation. Seems the problem could be a inch-spec spring in a metric bike...4 points

Hmm, I smell something fishy here. That image isn't from a simple fatigue failure thats something bazar and or possibly self inflicted. Does this bike have the old original and faulty oversize shift arm boss? Phil3 points

I still have a lot of springs. @dowieze I'll send you a PM. You should ask your shop to stop their mods and wait for this spring. We have ZERO failures of this spring.3 points

Also - one batch of springs I had a section that was too long. It was the short arm at the 90-degree bend. I trimmed them all by hand, but it's possible that I left a few too long. When you re-assemble, be sure that short arm is not catching on anything. Happy to send a free replacement spring - and a few free extras for your shop. (but sorry, not free international shipping).2 points

Oh wait... reading back on this thread, and looking at your photo, that does appear to be first failure of new spring I have ever seen. And it looks like the poor thing was completely mangled - in a way I have not ever seen before. What is happening inside that transmission? Inquiring minds want to know.2 points

Thanks everyone, I've got the bar end weights and new Rizoma mirrors installed. Really nice mirrors. Thanks Phil I got the adapters for a 2000 Ducati monster 600 - Revzilla didn't list MG V11 - which came with the correct bolt you recommended for the V11. The kit included 5 different bolts, so it seems pretty universal.2 points

Here is the link to Chuck's drawing showing the specs, including the length of the right-angle tab.1 point

Just eyeballing, the length of the bent tab, it looks ok.. but.. on a "factory" spring, I can see a very small stress riser from the spring winder tooling at about the area this one broke. (!) I don't know if I can get a picture or not, I'll give it a go. When I wound the springs on the lathe, that wouldn't be there. Edit: Ok, here ya go. I'm betting the tool needed to be polished.1 point

That looks like the bike described here. According to the text there, that would have been a Cagiva Elefant in other markets than the US. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/ducati/ducati_elefant_900c 94.html EDIT: here, from the same site. Looks to be the same bike, but painted and labelled as a Cagiva. https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/cagiva/cagiva_elefant_900c 94.htm1 point

I had that prior to rerouting the power directly from the battery to the relay. So far, I only experienced it twice. The first time was with my helmet and ear plugs on. I could not properly identify the noise. All I saw was the dashboard light intensity dim, and no cranking. The second time, in my garage, after having installed the new Odyssey PC545MJ, charged and tested. It was like the solenoid was not properly engaging the starter gear through the fly wheel. At the next attempt, it cranked properly, and since then, it seems to be working as before. All the wiring is properly connected, the battery is good. Whatever it was, it may have to do with either the starter motor or the solenoid. At present, I am running around home to see if it will do it again. Obviously, according to Murphy, it is going to work perfectly until I am up in Amarillo.1 point

No, but fairly simple to do. I put it under the battery tray, check clearance. Idling 14.73 on my greenie, and not even a red one. . I did install extra terminals + and - , only 1 cable on the battery. Some pictures on the forum somewhere. Others here have installed it to, all seems happy. Cheers Tom.1 point

Good evening from the Moto Grappa at the top of Virginia! Here is the slideshow I made of last weekend’s Moto Grappa Tech Days 2024 [MGTD ’24], the seventh in the MGTD series. I took 800+ pix; yes, really. On the merciful side, while, of course, there are still too many, there are fewer than 1/4 of that original number of this weekend of aging Moto Guzzi enthusiasts (sans spousal units) reliving frat house days of debauchery under the guise of working on their Italian mounts. No dummy and experienced in the squalor that follows in a MGTD’s wake, Kathi, my Perfect Pillion & Polish Princess, flew to Seattle just before the event, and — aside from a cameo to swap the “airport car" for a better one — returned after the follow-on HAZMAT team left. 😄 ========= For those still reading, the link opens in landscape collage, thus allowing you to look at all at once rather than slogging through those individually. Hover your cursor over each pic to see captions. The system truncates some of those in the collage format. The best practice is to run the pix in slideshow form so the pix are larger, tho that can cause captions to disappear unless you keep the cursor in the lower left of each photo. Yes, I know a PITA. Speaking of PITA, the “buy photo” option is nuts. If, for some inexplicable reason, you want any pic, simply download it. If want higher-res, let me know. OK … at last, the link: https://bill-and-kathi.smugmug.com/MGTD-2024/n-cRqfHF Bill P.S. I did not include the following “bonus pic" in the slideshow proper. One of the MGTD attendees left early to rent and ride a motorcycle in Nevada.. He took several pix of his MGTD souvenir cap —à la "Where’s Waldo?” — Here’s one; read the sign!1 point

Bad news. The selector spring on my bike broke again after 3000 km. For the third time in three years. In the garage they replaced 5 springs in 20 years, includes 2 times on my bike. They do not find the cause. Currently they trying to modificate the gear box by reducing the travel way of the selector spring. I hope it will work this time. Any suggestions are we welkom.
