  1. Today , I decided to see why the fuel pump would not energize on the black frame bike . Removed the tank to get to the + and - wires to energize the pump . Easier said than done. I had to remove the air filter cover to gain good access to the pump. Sidetrack . Just for the heck of it I thought I would take a look at the air filter . I pulled the air filter out of the housing along with a mouse nest complete with a field mouse running up my arm making a fast getaway ! This critter had enough junk to stop the flow completely and chewed up 1/2 of the filter . I removed the pump and applied jumper wires from a car battery and it was locked up . Reversed the leads and still locked up . Ordered a new pump , shutoff and air filter from MG Cycle and went to NAPA for new fuel lines. I will never understand what possessed my to remove that filter just to see what it looked like . I do know it could have wrecked my engine if I had kept it in there and ran it like that . YUCK .

  2. A few minutes ago, I caught myself groaning about the slow W-LAN ( I think that is called Wi-Fi in many places outside of Gemany...) where I am right now. That got me thinking about where the "state of the art" was 20 years ago. If I remember rightly, I did have a wireless LAN at home 20 years ago, but the internet access was still via an ISDN Modem. Go back 20 years, mobile phones were not a matter of course, and could only make phone calls. Back anotherr 20 years, CD was a brand new, exciting, and revolutionary audio format. 20 years before that I can't remember, as I was only just born, but I can remember cars from that period, for instance. And I know that there was no TV in my home when I came home from the hospital as a new born. I think there was a phone, but it had a cord. The car had a push-rod motor, and cross-ply tyres. The world has really changed, hasn't it? Why the W-LAN got me on to this train of thought? I'm on a train from Hamburg to Munich (and it's the middle of the night, I'm bored and I should actually be trying to sleep...), using the free on-board W-LAN. On a train.Once again: free on-board W-LAN on a train. Wonders never cease, and it never ceases to wonder how quickly one becomes accustomed to the wonder. And impatient when it doesn't work as well as one might wish.

  4. Having a few bikes it's actually very recomended for a pensioner's health, shoud have been on blue subscription. Winther project started july last year, why not this year to with riding weather like this, -3 not far away. Gives me something meaningful to do since bikes always was a BIG part of life. Bit wet and on the chilly side here, but no thank you to 100+ in Houston. Remember well 43c in Barcelona with up north riding gear, TERRIBLE. Cheers Tom.

  5. Following a weekend of riding on wet, sodden roads (another appalling wash out of a UK summer), I cleaned the filth off my burgundy V11 today

  6. Moral of the story : if your bike sits for 6 months or more , remove the tank , examine the air filter and evict all squatters.

  7. Perhaps. But it looks like Pramac was going to stay until he insulted them and then Ducati snatched him away from being their number 1 rider next year, moving Marc to the factory team over Pramac's rider whom they had been grooming for that same factory seat. A double insult, maybe a triple insult, and it seems enough to stop Pramac from renewing their contract with Ducati. That was a racer showing who is boss. Besides, it would have been likely that Marcs contract would have been with Ducati, not Pramac, and Pramac would simply have been the team he rode a factory Ducati for. Until he blew up that deal, and with it Ducati's relationship with Pramac. The end result from that one decision by Ducati to sign Marc Marquez is only six Ducati's on the grid next year, only three of them will be current spec bikes. That will be fewer current spec bikes then any other manufacturer, although arguably that is on them as much as it is on Marc. Also, their number two team is no longer their team, and several of their best riders have left their fold. On the positive side of the leger is they will have Marc Marquez, but arguably they already had him. Where was he really going to go if his expressed desire was to be on the best bike? They lost much to gain what they already had. And it will likely only get worse, as Marc will surely bring tension to the factory team.

  8. If it's the same as the 2002 V11 Scura, then I have a stock one available. It's in Houston so would need to be shipped.

  10. which reminds me (the bike sitting too long topic)…. what i did to one of my V11’s today was post it on craigslist. Just one of the three. The Greenie. Love it, but really always reach for the red LeMans when it’s time to ride, and dealing with bikes that sit too much has become a bit tiresome. Not that i’m against having a “mini collection”, and about 49% of the time that’s what I resolve to do…. Screw it, i’m keeping them all! But then each year I spend time fiddling with the bikes that don’t get the miles they need to stay healthy, and when i’m not doing that i’m worrying about them. So will see if Greenie gets any interest. I can go either way… reduce the number of under-ridden bikes in the shop, or start collecting like TomChri in Norway!

  12. My location is now in the tail of Beryl, and let's say it was quite the experience, again! We had the Derecho in May, 6 days without power, and we also lost power this time; fortunately, it came back a few minutes ago, partially. The whirlwind was like mini tornadoes and a lot of foliage and trees have again been uprooted. Lots of cleaning will be required. Fortunately, this time we still had a semblance of phone network, so we could monitor the Beryl path. The gusting is the most impressive as you go from complete calm to a sudden force gale. Losing the Internet is really like losing your lifeline to communications.

  13. Thanks, I'll check output this week. If correct, I may look into adding some sort of an inline heatsink.

  14. I get leaving Ducati after such an insult / slight. But I don't get going to Yamaha. They could have talked to KTM, a team that wants two more spots on the grid desperately and would no doubt have made them a good deal. Perhaps not as extreme as the deal Yamaha made, but then the bikes KTM would provide are worlds better and KTM is more serious about racing then Yamaha will ever be. Yamaha always has been and always will be a street bike manufacturer that races, while KTM is a race bike manufacturer that sells street bikes to fund their racing. Plus they have a long term relationship with Red Bull so their pockets are pretty deep compared to their size.

  16. Yep. I used the 2375 for the short run to the reservoir. I use the F4040A as fuel supply on my carbureted bikes since it is fuel rated and fuel is gravity fed to the carbs. However, the F4040A does not like heat so I end up replacing the lines every few years....discoloration is the first sign of impending failure. Also, I buy this stuff at McMaster-Carr, they have an awesome on-line catalog, reasonable prices and super quick shipping. They're local to me, I place an order and can pick it up within an hour. As for bleeding hydraulics I've always used a vacuum bleeder....Mity Vac hand pump, home made vac out of a one gallon pickle jar (it'll suck cold gear oil too!) but more recently I bought this https://www.harborfreight.com/brake-fluid-bleeder-92924.html It was inexpensive and works good. I believe gravity bleeding works well too, I just don't have the patience for it because I feel it is a little more time consuming. As for flushing out debris that may be in the circuit, I change fluid every 2-4 years and don't give debris much thought. On old bkes I've acquired where there is shmutz in the rez, I wipe it out and hope for the best with a couple flushes, my '87 LMIVSE was in bad shape, it was obvious a master cylinder overhaul was the solution. 17. That is one of my favorite parts of the country. I *love* Beartooth, but have only done it in late July and early August. Cody to Chief Joseph to Beartooth down to Red Lodge, than back up to Yellowstone is one of my most memorable rides.

  20. You should be old enough to remember 33 1/3 LPs and 45s playing on a stereo phonograph . Then 8-tracks , cassettes, CDs and on and on. BTW , we used to have a RCA Victrola that would play 78s . These records were as heavy as a flywheel . The big fun was to play 33s on 45 or 78 RPM or any combination of speeds. They would sound like Frankenstein or Alvin & The Chipmunks . Also to remove the center disc from a 45 where it would be off center and sound silly . We would laugh until we peed all over ourselves .

  21. Great song. I actually have a copy of that album on vinyl, I believe. Not 100% sure, because if I do have it, it has been in a box in my sister's garage in Canberra, Australia since the beginning of 1996. When I came here to Germany, I left my records at her place. I intended to have them sent on, or collect them myself, of something. It hasn't happened yet, and that album is amongst them.
