  1. Although.....the hand crank starter protruding through the "radiator" is certainly based on experience.

  2. This vehicle would be an excellent candidate for going "dark side" and running a car tire on the rear.

  7. BTW how many here can say their dentist holds a current national lap record on a motorcycle? I was looking at Phillip Island lap records a week back and noticed my dentist still holds the national BEARS lap record at PI from 1999. A 1:38.1 on a Ducati 996 Superbike. I mentioned it to him while "in the chair" a few days later. Phil

  9. The sensor is used in literally dozens of other engine applications in the automotive world. Like many things they don't last forever. I bought 2 Chinese made ones about 6 years ago and used one in the Daytona engine. I think I paid $15aud for 2 direct from the manufacturer. The postage at the time was more than the cost of the sensors. Still working fine but very little mileage. I had images of them on here somewhere, probably in the daytona rebuild thread. Phil

  10. To become the next V11 in the Steve S line? Would that be number twelve?

  11. Wondering what I will do when the inevitable no-more-motorcycles day arrives... I would have mocked this three-wheeler mercilessly in my younger days. But now it seems a better alternative than a convertible sports car.

  12. Well, Ducati better get used to that. I don't think that will be the last guy on a Ducati Marc makes contact with.

  13. I was reading a Nicolo Bulega statement made after a visit to the doctor, following his crash at the World Ducati Week race of the champions. He clearly said that he did not release any comment to any media following the unfortunate incident that took place during the race, that saw Nicolo the only casualty of what was meant to be a good nature event. I am certain Ducati PR made certain there was not going to be any public blaming of their top-notch star rider for 2025. That goes without saying. Marc Marquez said that he did not even feel any contact, but he would/did? give his helmet to Nicolo as a consolation prize. Lucky Nicolo Bulega! In the videos shot by spectators and shown on various YT channels, you can clearly see there is contact. Obviously, Marc did not feel anything... possibly because it was too mild to be noticed. Usually, he strikes a lot stronger than that.

  15. My IMHO, that timing sensor is wrong for the application. It wouldn't surprise me if it turned out that the sensor was never designed for use in "wet" applications. I fiddled trying to seal the original with a new oring, the specified oring, two small orings, several types of sealers, jb weld, etc. I finally gave up, installed a new sensor, specified oring and some gasket sealer....still not happy with the results. However, every other stupid minute leak, weep or seep I had on the bike was resolved to my satisfaction. Yeah, as mentioned in another post here, the sensor does "swell", I don't know if it is from the engine heat, synthetic oil, i don't know. Other v11's I've seen have the leak, seep, weep, there too. Maybe there are a combination of issues there..wrong sensor for the application, oring size/material, sensor bore/counter bore incorrectly machined into the block or specs are out of tolerance or wrong. Who knows??!! OK, now I'm venting....apparently. Anyway, thanks for listening, there are far worse things that can afflict our v11's, have a nice day! Art

  16. Hmmm, that would likely look better too. More homogeneous, less grafted together.

  20. Had a good time at Misano today except for MM usual dirty riding at the end, seems he can’t help himself, He was basically boo’d out of the place by the entire Grandstand heading back to Rimini now, Then its off to The Dolomite’s early in the morning.. a few days up there then I guess I’ll do Stelvio and maybe stop by Mandello on the way back down south..,the v85 was excellent in the downhill switch backs around Tavullia yesterday thats where it shows its best… Its been Hot and humid for a couple weeks now.

  21. There are various thickness shims Mick not gaskets. The oil seal is an oring and is almost useless on it's own and a gasket sealer is required as well on install. The actual sealing design is flawed in my opinion. How to measure? With a depth gauge and a pair of vernier callipers and a bit of math. You can of course just put a blob of plasticene on the end of the pickup with some grease on it and no shims and stick it in and remove then measure the plasticene thickness and calculate the shims you need. Thats works as well. Someone years ago made quite a neat bespoke tool to measure the depth but it's so rarely required I just use the old school methodology. I've pulled apart engines where the sensor was contacting the wheel and it still ran ok. Okish maybe. Phil
