  1. OMG ! Can you imagine these MXers of 2024 riding a BSA dirt bike from 1970ish . Dry weight of 450lbs and 3" of suspension travel (dropped from 50') w/Girling rears and IDK what oil leak was on the front.

  3. I have just brought home a pair of vises from Dr. John Wittner's estate. R.I.P., our good man. Your legacy is in good hands here. Now, I am trying to figure out what I have, here. And the matter of vises, overall. The larger one (28 pounds!) is called a "utility vise" and has a substantial anvil section and "exposed screw." A Columbian C44, Cleveland, Ohio, that looks like it lived on the back bumper of the Wittner race van. (I wish!) The Craftsman is a more typical "workshop" vise with 3 5/8" jaws and "just" 16 pounds. Yes, the "shipping and handling" of the pieces (49 pounds) from Pennsylvania here to Tennessee was *substantial* !!

  4. At the risk of mentioning this and upsetting the cantankerous god of magic smoke..... I haven't had an issue with fuses since having a Shendengan Reg/Rec and extra ground installed many years ago! Cheers Guzzler Ps what's the betting now I've mentioned it....?

  5. Even the large "Maxi" fuse I tried failed because of the contact heat. Original post...

  6. The Sprint race was unpredictable; I did not watch it however Dorna now publishes snippets of what happens during the race on YouTube. They are really trying hard to entice people to subscribe to watch the races. In any case, they lost my patronage when they tried to do what Adobe is currently under legal trouble for. Automatic re-enrollment, unsubscribe options impossible to find, forcing you to phone. The new subterfuge of many subscription based businesses. Making it impossible to cancel.

  9. View of the front right hand side of the bike from a couple metres away. Really cool to see the heat in the tires.

  11. Same view from RHS of the bike: Max temp reading I could get was 49 C (120 F) between the fuses (for some reason, I don't know, but the fuses were cooler than the underlying area... maybe its the input wiring temp????). Anyway thats hot, but not so bad I think. I could easily keep my fingers in the area without excessive heat. Image taken from the right hand side of the bike, same as the photo above shown for reference. Just adding that the dark areas are the fuses and the bright is the area beneath the fuses.

  12. As requested, after a 40 minute ride back from the pub after an emergency beer (or 3). No IPA today sorry Tom! Fuse block as viewed from the right hand side of the bike.

  13. Everyone I knew that road a Bevel took the kickstart lever off. He'd pull it back on comp and bump it side saddle swing the leg over position the balls of the feet resplendent in his Lewis leathers back zip black road race boots and roar away in true style. Unlike todays handbag carriers.

  14. I've got a '64 Elite in boxes. Cycle parts are all good, I've got an original tank, albeit unchromed, and it's only missing a seat and silencer. Engine seems to have good compression, but I haven't had it apart yet. It's a bit of a retirement project. The last picture shows what I hope the finished project will look like.

  19. I decided to just suck that up. Plus the "buyer's premium" and taxes. I've never done anything like this before. I went out on a limb because of the One-time Dr.John thing. Pretty interesting, now, to learn about "vises" and what I have have bolted to my benches . . .

  20. Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia . . . I got mine from this company here https://cars245.com/en/item/meat-doria-87074-sensor-crankshaft-pulse/ Cheap enough to keep a couple on the shelf. A good read for phase sensor specs and cross references:
