  1. Successful "BikeWash" (154 mile shakedown ride) today. Today was mySport's 24th anniversary, so extra-special. On the lift, now, for tires and brakes and such . . .

  2. Very true. 90% of these fancy billet aftermarket stuff like engine mounts and suspension components etc sold these days by aftermarket companies for the automotive world which I also inhabit are untested glitz or at the most they get installed on the shop car for a few months before the sales start. 6 months later on forums they are more often than not failing. Billet this and carbon that with almost zero testing. I have several close family members that spent collectively 75 years working for a major manufacturer here in automotive R&D and testing everything automotive and also crash testing. The aftermarket testing is a joke compared to what the manufacturers do and even then they also don't get it 100% right. Phil

  3. Hi Tom. It seems that one must be registered on Facebook (not going to happen) to see that. Have you got it listed somewhere else? Not that I'm about to buy it, but I'm sure I'm not the only person in the world who is allergic to Facebook.

  5. Oh, sure, all good, then. Only docc has molested it.

  6. I've not seen a rear jaw moveable vice before docc. Id imagine if the rear jaw was located on a dovetail arrangement it would be more accurate clamping than a common vice. If you want to see a truly amazing vice here it is. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4904044 Phil [docc added image.]

  9. It occurs to me to mention that it is not only the blade connector that can have a bad contact. The crimp on the wire into the connector can also go bad. A good crimp is theoretically air tight, and should last a very long time. If the crimp is a bit shoddy, corrosion and oxidation can find their way into the crimp and cause a resistive contact. If there are persistant problems with bad contacts (too much warmth) despite cleaning and fettling, I would be inclined to pull the connector out of the socket and check the crimp.

  19. Quali is a joke these days with towing and the general danger of slowing riders and also yellow flags ruining fast laps. When a rider gets a tow to improve his grid position it just means a genuinely faster riders race is compromised due to an inferior starting position which these days is a big deal. I've been saying for years that MotoGp should go to the old WSBK quali format of the 1 lap shoot out. I warm up lap and one flying lap alone on the track. Then you see who's genuinely faster without a tow and yellow flag issues. Marquez says it's boring for the fans but I disagree. It was exciting in WSBK and it's exciting at the Bathurst Supercars for the top 10 shootout. Would be way better than the joke qualifying has become with riders that don't have the actual speed promoting themselves up the grid due to getting a tow then getting in the way of riders that are genuinely faster in the first 3rd of the race. 22. She'll be right mate, no worries... Seriously, though, having a good regulator in the system will keep the volts under control. That, in turn, will keep the waste heat from bad connections under control. The formula is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joule_heating#Direct_current P = V²/R The resistance of the contact is constant, so the higher the voltage across the contact, the more work is done (power generated = heat generated). So keeping the voltage under control also keeps the heat generated within limits.

  23. At the risk of mentioning this and upsetting the cantankerous god of magic smoke..... I haven't had an issue with fuses since having a Shendengan Reg/Rec and extra ground installed many years ago! Cheers Guzzler Ps what's the betting now I've mentioned it....?

  31. I have a whole ‘Chamber of Horrors’ file of pics of Alloy timing gears and alloy/steel composite sets. None of them are, or were, ever worth a pinch of shit! Criticising them has led to threats of violence being made against me by mentally unstable and drug-fu*ked individuals so I tend not to say anything about them nowadays beyond just advising strongly against their use. I’ve spoken with Joe about these gear sets though and we’r in complete agreement. You wouldn’t use them in a lawnmower! Much less a motorbike!

  32. Don't know the image was sent to me from Joe Caruso because we discuss engineering things/designs etc. I have several sets in my workshop with bad drive face wear on the teeth which I don't really trust for the reason shown in the image. Every material has it's place and aluminium for cam gears isn't one of them for mine unless it's some sort of sprint engine and longevity isn't an issue. Phil

  35. AJ -- in pic, below -- talked me into doing this only two weeks after the SSR XX: Moto Guzzi Tour of Corsica & Sardinia A moto-touring veteran of various companies, AJ did a Balkan event last year in order to get a "serious" demo of the V100. Ended up so impressed by the V85 instead, he bought one! His, mine, and Stave Nicholas had three Guardia d'Onores at the mutton and fried cheese curds run. Two of those will be at SSR XX. Bill

  36. I also ran into the ITI/hUR top quality syndrome. My odometer was dead on arrival! stuck on the same mileage for ever. After getting the Speedo/Odo out of the bike, I opened it to check the root cause of the issue, and what could have caused it. The worm screw that drives both the Speedo and the Odometer slowly ground itself until the thread was completely stripped. My explanation, and you are welcome to challenge it, is that the cheap design and build made for no adjustment of the intersect angle between the worm screw and the driven axle as seen on the pictures. The assembly is held together by cold clamping the instrument chassis. But thanks to LowRyter's tip, it appears I have a working repair solution now... So for those of you who run into the ITI/hUR stripped worm screw, here's one option, the email below is dated stamped today, May 13th, 2021.
