  1. Now they finally broke into the Transmission. Don't know the extent of damage and the fix. A broken pin (perhaps a limiter pin?) and swarf in the bottom of the case. I suppose the soap opera will continue on Monday.

  2. Thank you for the compliments. But , this bike ain't started yet . Also , I have made a lot of mistakes getting this far. Education comes from two sources . 1 authority; don't stick your finger in that light socket 2 experience; I stuck my finger in the light socket with exciting results

  3. Okay, okay, I know this is not a tube amp. But last week my trusted thirty-year-old Onkyo stereo amplifier overheated and shut down. The heat sink on the amps was 200ºF! I couldn't touch the top of the amp; figured "She's ded, Jim " . . . After a cool down, she came back on! So, I got a US$22 "computer" fan and set it on top of the stack with some isolation "feet", custom screen attachments, and a dose of wishful thinking . . .

  5. Another gratuitous action shot of me on my burgundy Sport, photoshopped to remove the water mark, it resulted in the Guzzi logo disappearing from the alternator cover

  6. There’s a Morgan plus 8 in the background. I’ll take the Moggie or the Daytona. Ms Saucy looks even higher maintenance

  7. Great observations, thanks for sharing wisdom in abundance! I didn't think of the neutral light switch, but this being faulty would not allow the fuel pump to prime and the start Relais to click, right? I'm definately going to do a stress test of the battery. If it's faulty a good clean of the ignition switch might hopefully kill two birds with two stones. I've changed the rectifier 2 years ago and checked all mayor connections, earth, and did the additional earth strap then.. Bike storage is quite far from my house unfortunately, but I have the battery with me. Thanks again and will report back 👍

  8. Good point that there is more than one problem at hand. +1 on testing/conditioning/or replacing the battery. While voltage could be "fine", yet the battery will not carry a load, 12.4 volts from an AGM battery is essentially "dead."

  9. Experience is a tough teacher. She gives you the test first.. then the lesson. Oh, btw.. a bad neutral switch wouldn't make the headlight stay on after turning the ignition off..

  10. I sometimes find the knowledge here near annoying. That is especially true with automotive electrics, a subject that I know less about than quantum physics. Well played, @gstallions, tho deep in my adolescent heart, I almost hope you are wrong, if only so I'll feel less stupid. To put this in context, I am happy simply to have found TDC on my V85 yesterday and having it start and run without hemorrhaging oil after installing the fidgety oil filter. Naturally, I had help ... who, BTW, told me she would make me into a castrato if I posted this pic. I'll try still to be a tenor when I get to Tellico Plains for the SSR. Apologies to @vinguzzi, the OP, for hijacking his thread, but no time here ... Kathi is looking through the knife drawer! Bill

  12. No problem . the neutral switch is at fault . Remove it spray contact cleaner on it and work it a LOT and then check continuity w an meter to see if it closes and opens. Reinstall and go.

  13. First I'd load test the battery. Voltage readings mean practically nothing. Once I knew the battery was good, I'd clean and apply fresh Vaseline to the ignition switch. Spritzing Caig DeOxit on the relays and relay bases is always a good thing.

  14. Don't know if this story fits this thread but back in the early 70's when I was a kid my parents had a cobbled together stereo system. Decent turntable and speakers but the amp was a home made valve unit made by my father who was an electrician by trade. I was very familiar with it's sound because it got played quite a bit. Anyway my fathers best friend was a Flight engineer for Qantas and travelled overseas a lot so on one of his trips he bought the old man a brand new latest transistorised Sony amp. I was there for the exciting hook up and first play. Result? Disappointment from me I can remember. Gone was the soft mellow full sound replaced by some sort of tinny scratchy sound. Not sure how to explain it better than that but I've never forgotten it. Phil

  15. I was able to do both of mine by removing the throttle body to cylinder head air boot bolts and removing everything. It was not fun but I got it out and back in .

  18. Is your pic from the Cars and Coffee meet yesterday? I drove thru later in the morning, apparently too late. I think I'm going for coffee and homemade pie in Glenwood WA tomorrow (via Klickitat) if anyone else is in the mood. Hopefully an early start before morning traffic will mean an early return before afternoon rush.

  19. 2003 Le Mans on kleinanziegen with 2800km, 19900Euro. Coppa Italia with 6700km was advertised here 185000kr. My Coppa Italia with 10000km ( 1 scratch pork chop) otherwise perfect) 150000kr, but with parts worth easyly 50000kr Cheers Tom.

  20. The voice of experience! I turned the fan on high and dusted the interior of the cabinet through the top grill. Big cloud of dust! Taking the air hose to my tube amp, next . . . Thanks, @audiomick !

  22. I remember the first time I heard a CD and thinking gee it sounds a bit brighter than Vinyl or tape too.... Also have an Onkyo amp that I've had for nigh on 30 years as well and still working great. I did hear Onkyo's famous build quality took a nose- dive sometime after we bought our amps mate! One of these days I'll update to a pre/power set up and have my Dali speakers serviced..... Cheers

  23. The fan is a good idea, but only treating symptoms, as you probably know. Have you had it open to blow out the dust yet?

  24. First make sure the bike is in in N before you get started. If you would , try touching a hot wire to the start sol. on the starter to see if it works. If it does , go back to relay #1 and swap with another relay . Even though you experienced a relay click doesn't mean the relay works.

  25. I woud take a piece of wire from + on the starter to the solenoid, starter and battery test. Cheers Tom.

  26. I'm sure the first few generations of transitor amps made very bright sound...not enjoyable to listen to at all. Your story is proof of that. Over time they have improved by leaps and bounds. I have a 35 year old Muse Model 100 that I have been very happy with as far as a warmer tone goes. I test drove a few before buying this one. It's no tube amp, but still sweet. It continues to pump out, but who knows for how long?

  28. @audiomick,Sorry for the late reply, just saw this today. It is a late model Victory Vision if I recall correctly. Company is now out of business but parts and service is available from parent company Polaris for about 3 more years, I think. Not a good deal to buy that beast and have company dissolve.

  30. As for the Black Walnut Bottom clan, I am happy to report that the Lady Kathy has recovered to the point that she, too, will be driving our support vehicle to SSR #20, allowing me to strafe the Cumberland plateau with Docc and the Katzenjammer Kid. As to Tennessee corn swill, I consider the gauntlet laid! Roaring River Distillery and I accept your challenge! You supply the red Dixie cups.
