  1. A couple of pictures from my weekend. We got lucky, probably the last cry of summer this year. About 30°C, sunshine, just beautiful. It started raining just now (late in the night after I got home today), and is going to be wet for the next 3 or 4 days. This is the spot. Don't be confused by the exposure, the two pictures were taken from the same spot, one into the sun, one away from it. It is the grounds of a canoe club, mostly slalom kayaks as far as I can tell. The poles are visible in the picture taken towards the river. Lunch time, half-way through the ride on Saturday. I counted 48 bikes. Two of them were side-car outfits (both Guzzis), and only three were not Guzzis. I was pleased to finally see this bike. The owner and builder has been reporting his progress for a while now in the German forum. The frame is a late model Tonti California frame. Motor is V11 (with ground off fins to look like an older round motor), but carbies instead of injectors. The rest of it, I don't really know. Suffice to say that absolutely none of it is "standard", neither for the frame nor in relation to any of the other parts. I don't like the Cali 2 look, actually, and the paint job is a matter of taste, but the thing is a work of art. There were two V11s there. This one, which I didn't like much. It said "Le Mans" on the side covers, and the colour suggests it may have been a Rosso Corsa. So why would one take off the Le Mans fairing and put on that shitty looking fly catcher? The other one was a Greenie. Not pretty, you might say. I liked it. It belongs to Bob. He bought it in 2005. The bike is loved, and lived, and matches the owner perfectly: a bit tousled and slightly eccentric. Here is Bob on his Greenie, loaded up and about to head off home. I had a great weekend. I hope you all at the Twentieth (XX!) South'n Spine Raid 2024 this last weekend did too.

  5. Well , some forums do exist . I will be here as long as possible . The only problem people have in forums I see is , what I post ; what you read ; what you respond with and what I read and interpret gets misinterpreted . I wish there was a way to fix this. I stay away from FB and all the other social media "look at me" forums that want to show the size of their kidney stone or where they are staying in the Bahamas . Me , I want to have my friends and make sure their bikes are running properly .

  6. Good to see. We had a half-dozen or so V85 TT, about the same number of the newer V7 850s in various versions, and a couple each of V100 Mandellos and V100 Stelvios. Old dogs can learn new tricks, after all.

  8. Definitely Allen on mine and the new ones. Hopefully when it's up and running/still a sad wreck you can come and admire/gloat at your near-miss! P.s I bought the rack on eBay off you, in readiness for those pan-Europe tours I'll be undertaking on it, ha ha.

  9. Thanks for the comments guys. I came to the conclusion that the right hand TB was toast, the shaft was so badly corroded at the top there was no way that it would seal effectively imo. I guess I could take a risk and try it with fresh seals, at least with the top seals there's little danger of leaking fuel, it just comes down to what any leakage does to the mixture? Anyhow, I managed to source a pair of what look like good condition TBs off eBay from Holland. they were a lot cheaper than the German ones listed, about the same price as a single TB from them. Got stung on duties (thanks Brexit) but they arrived within 2 days, pretty good going (Baboon Motorcycles). So now I have the challenge of splitting THESE TBs to get them ON the bike!! I tried my previous technique with the Butane/Propane torch and, although it seemed to take longer to get the specific area of the TB up to 200C (and a bit) I did get there, BUT the allen screw remained tight. Maybe the previous ones on the bike had been removed previously, but they definitely had some threadlocker on the removed screws?? Anyhow, I will follow Phil's excellent article advice and see if my time-served engineer friend (who generally works on pre-war Nortons) can help out with his oxy torch. Fingers crossed! I'll probably change the seals in these as a precaution while they're off the bike in any case. The only other progress I've made is draining the tank of what looks like very old fuel and removing the fuel pump/filter assy ready for a new filter (I happened to have a suitable one from when I serviced my mate's old Multistrada). The Mahle filter in there has a date stamp of 2003 so might be the original, though I imagine they aren't a short shelf life item so who knows? I'm worried about the fuel pump anyway given how long it's been standing, there's a few Chinese knock-offs available, any experience here with alternatives given the cost of the Bosch item?? On the Ducati forums there's sometime talk of "black death" (black deposits in the plastic fuel filter) signalling a pump on the way out, but haven't found anything similar on here? Have replaced the snapped brake reservoir on the handlebar in readiness for starting on the front calipers. both are sticking and all the fasteners are rusty, so fun ahead!

  11. @OtisV11, take time to carefully measure the rear wheel spacer. Many early V11 sport spacers were undersized and shorten wheel bearing life. The correct length is 113mm, although you can measure your wheel between bearing seating surfaces once your bearings are removed.

  12. As a long time Beetle customer, I have purchased his maps for my Norge and Griso, I would recommend Nuevo reach out to Beetle for a map. He has invested significant amounts of time and effort and should always be compensated for his work. He's very responsive and easy to work with...you can find him via his website as posted above or go to Griso Ghetto where he is very active as well and send a PM. I'm happy to help with local Guzzidiag activities, but I can't share Beetle's map without his permission.

  13. I am a little confused. A V11 Sport in the US should always have the headlight on when it is running, right? And that would be important as the V11 Sport charging system takes its battery voltage measurement to know how much voltage is in the battery from the headlight circuit, downstream of the headlight bulb as I recall. So a headlight that is off or even burned out could / would stop the charging system from working properly. Also, the V11 Sport has a headlight and a lower wattage light in the headlight bucket that is a running light. I assume that is for markets where the headlight can be turned off. If the main headlight is out for any reason it is possible to see the lower wattage running light and mistake that for the headlight. I have done that. The two lights are feed by different circuits so it is possible for the lower wattage light to be on while the main headlight is off. I do agree, if you have a Power Commander and it is not running right it is really easy to take the Power Commander out of the equation by unplugging it and seeing if the problem goes away.

  14. The weathers been so bad here, as summer rapidly recedes in the rear view mirror, that I was confined to the workshop this weekend. Greenie sump & timing chain covers off for powder coating, Roper plate to be fitted, tatty belly pan, side panels, fender etc to be resprayed…just hoping the paint shop does their job with color matching this Guzzi green

  15. Apologies Phil, only just twigged you meant (I think) my titanium system? I've no idea yet if it fits/works/is ear-bleedingly loud? I have had dB killers made for other slightly exotic exhaust systems (including an ex-race XR1200 Harley believe it or not!) but it's not a priority right now. I am looking forward to at least a trial fit at some point, just to see what it looks like on the bike, but if I DO decide to move it on, you have first shout. I'll probably put up some pics of it loosely assembled (it's leaning up against the bench in my garage in that state now) as it's such a lovely thing to gawp at!

  18. It did not take much to exacerbate the quality of the forces on track! It was quite impressive to see how experience is still the thing... This weekend, we have Moto America at COTA. A QUOTA @COTA?... lol!

  19. It is fairly common. If you check the new subscribers, you will see there are many entrants, but they never post. They will come here after searching for something, and getting a redirect to this site. Once they get the information they were looking for, or not, they may also register, with no intention to post. Forums like this one have become obsolete. Especially because they are not free of charge, but mainly because they have been replaced by "Discord" of Facebook. Many forums are dying because they have very little activity. Of course, the principal reason is you only come when you need something.

  28. We've had nothing but that for the full week... I want to give the Quota some luster, but I want not to ruin it, as I am patiently waiting to do a photoshoot with it. That makes me think there was a topic I wanted to bring up on the forum....

  30. A few items done today…and then a wonderful 100 mile ride. New oil sensor, new plugs (left one nice tan brown, right one a little dark but not sooty), new vent tubes off the tank just for fun, was going to replace the rubber tank stops but the ones there are in great shape. Been thinking about the slight 3k cough or hiccup …wonder if it could be mapped away with a better mixture on the map at that RPM…still running the older version of the Meinolf map…may try the new one. Besides that the bike runs great at all other RPM’s. A quick check with the Carbtune…TB nicely balanced at idle and 4k…time for a ride. Out riding…a song comes on…Riders on the Storm…found a Scura at the end of the rainbow! Time to buy a lottery ticket tonight!!

  31. Well after a week of wild wind (up to 100kph blasts) and rain it looked like a window of opportunity opened for a ride into the office yesterday. So, much to my wife's concern come hell or high water I'm riding in... Of course, the brief lull in the weather was but a ruse to fool me into thinking it'd be a lovely early spring morning ride. Up at 4.30am togged up and riding out the driveway at 5.00am. Holy shit it's windy but also a balmy 17 degrees. Now normal folk would realise that with this much wind and such a balmy temp that trouble is brewing and indeed it was! But with only a few rides in the last 3 months I was oblivious to reason! It was bloody windy as hell on the higher ground and the drizzle was starting (so much for the rain radars dry corridor) and after gas at the servo I was on my way again.Oh well wind and a bit of drizzle a small price to pay. Then once I'd dropped down off the higher ground Hell decided to unleash the high water and it began urinating with enough force to have some considering a second Ark! Jesus (no he was no help) this was getting crazy, dark, blowing a gale, very very wet and 4 lanes of heavy traffic! But actually I was grinning like a loon and loving it! The bike despite all that was going on was stable and planted and the Angel GT 11 tyres were fantastic and handled it all brilliantly. So, by the time I got to the office at 6am I was soaked ( upper body as did put wet leggings on... just in case ha ha ) and within minutes the place looked like a laundromat. Once I had the computer up and running, I saw news that we'd had a peak wind gust of 154 kph down on the coast! Jesus ( maybe he did look out for me after all ) what a morning. Anyways it all abated about 10 am was even sunny by the time I fired the bike up at 2.30pm for the ride home. Glad to report that although a bit windy but nothing like this morning I ENJOYED a little Italian tune up/ cobweb removing jaunt on the funway home... Of course, a Shiraz by the fire was in order and somewhat well-deserved I thought....
