  1. Hell Phil, all King Chas wanted was a convertible that would actually start and go when he wanted to go to the store for a qt of milk and a loaf of bread. He got rid of the Lucas and went all the way

  2. This thread reminds me of a job i did maybe fifteen years ago. Now, i love a Good coffee, have one every morning using a wee Dualit machine with Lavazza espresso beans. Yum. I was on a job plastering this chaps chimney breast and I’m working away, spread spread spread, he’s got a few chums round having a natter, then this smell of coffee wafts through to the room i’m workin in… dear gawd it smells divine, like really really good coffee. So i’m working away there, spread spread spread, and after a while he pops his head in and gives it: “That’s looking really good there Stewart, would you like a brew at all?” “That’d be super, thank you, I’d love a coffee cheers” I says, smackin me lips in anticipation (I can still smell the Good Stuff on the ether). 5 mins later he comes in and hands me a mug of nescafe. Git.

  4. A proper British roadster with cut-down doors that one could dangle his arm over and get fingers run over by the rear tire. I learned this lesson as a youth in my brother's Triumph TR3. Drop-dead gorgeous, these roadsters.

  8. This may need to go to the Introductions thread, but I have the issue of getting it started and also looking for a seat, so I thought I'd put it here and move it if needed. I bought this LeMans on Friday at an estate sale auction. I now have 10 Moto Guzzi's, 6 purchased as a package, and hope to par down the herd as I get to know them better. I think this one will definitely be a keeper! My 7 year old daughter and number 1 co-pilot Haley agrees! I am trying to get it started, but am getting nothing other than lights, horn, etc. When I turn the ignition to on, I get a red light, no neutral light, and no fuel pump prime. I've tried with the kickstand up and down, clutch in, verified 'run' switch is on etc., but still nothing. I see there are some very good threads here regarding no-start issues, and I'll be following them, but wanted to throw this out there in case I'm overlooking something. Also, I understand there is a 'startus interruptus' mod that I assume is some sort of kill switch? If someone is familiar with that I'd like to know more so that I can verify whether this bike has it. Also, as the pictures show, I need a replacement seat or source for a cover and will be posting a wanted ad for this shortly. And finally, I bought the bike in Albuquerque, NM. If anyone is familiar with this machine or its former owner I'd love to hear from them. Thanks!

  9. Wow I had no idea there were new ones available that cheaply. I could swear I did a search on their site and came up empty, but when I entered the part number you gave it came right up. Thank you! My only concern is that it states fitment for 1999 through 2005, and I thought there was a difference between the fitment for 2001 and 2002. I'll definitely check it out, though, especially as AF1 is just 5 miles from my office.

  10. For tips, given the flavor of the thread title, just looking for wisdom on how/where to buy the race tickets. May just be as simple as going to the official website source, but I know a couple folks on this forum have been as recently as this year to a GP race in Italy, so thought I’d check in to see if there are any hot tips. for the rest, yes, “wine country”….just a place in Europe, any one of many, but I purposely didn’t get into details on a MotoGP thread :->. For you inquiring minds though, in this case probably Epernay, then a stop at Au Fil du Zinc in Chablis, then down to Sancerre. Usually avoid the crowded streets of Beaune, Bordeaux, and Barolo. EasyJet or some other no frills flight to Florence from Lyon, or maybe TGV/eurostar (for 4x the cost & time). And don’t twist the knife on the coach thing! I spend money on motorcycles, shotguns, wine, espresso, and the rest is just wasted (old joke, but a good one). Got a crazy deal on the flight, so I just fold up my legs, put in the earbuds with a history podcast, slug a glass of wine, and sleep. Recover later.

  12. There's a current thread about stalling, with electrical schematics posted in it. I'd start by checking all fuses, order up a can of Caig DeOxit from Amazon because you'll need it. It appears that the electrical path is Battery-> fuse-> ignition switch-> neutral lamp-> neutral switch.

  13. Thank you footgoose! I bought a bunch of 5 pin relays from a source noted on Wildguzzi for my 1998 California. I understand that I can replace both the 5 pin and 4 pin relays with 5 pins on the 98, so maybe I can on the Lemans as well? I'll give it a try but first switch with the #3 relay. All the relays appear to be in excellent condition with no corrosion (unlike my 98). I don't know the relay brand but will check when I get home from work later today.

  14. neutral light may be a bulb or other. relay #5 far to the rear runs the pump. swap it out with new or another one, maybe #3 (docc?) and see if the pump works. clean contacts of all of them. what brand of relays are in it? lesser ones do go bad.

  18. Maybe the idea is to put something out that is so bad that they can crowd-source better ideas. So here is mine... "Jaguar" (pronounced in the "proper" British way). Video: A big cat, moving stealthily behind leaves, hard to see in a poorly lit jungle scene. "Silent..." Video: Huge paw softly touches down on the dirt. "Powerful..." the cat hunches as if to pounce. "Electrifying..." the cat makes the leap, transforming into the logo Then show the electric car action shot. On the Jaguar website, they do have a nice slogan: "Still leading the charge. All Electric – All Jaguar"

  19. No i’ve never seen the show, was responding to the clip in isolation. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not a completely heartless wanker. Deadwood! Damn i loved that one! Shame it just stopped wasn’t it? Fargo was ace too, at least the first 2 seasons particularly.

  20. Looks more like a perfume commercial than a car ad. And in true "post-truth" 21st century projection fakery "copy nothing" is definitely a copy of--well, something. Hope that they have some plastic laid out when they "break the mould" because I imagine that the excrement will run everywhere. Pretty sure that sledge hammer was styrofoam anyway. Best of luck with a re-brand of a car that was often bought through a sense of nostalgia attempting to sell to an audience stuck in a video.

  21. Reminds of the Brit character from the TV show "Mad Men". The guy's wife purchased him a new XK-E. Later that day he got his ex-pat tax bill from the British govt. He knew he was broke and couldn't pay it. (Warning: ironic and very dark)

  22. As a general comment on society these days which relates to this topic in a high level kind of way is that we are all now prisoners of loony fringe dwellers. The LFD's have always been out there of course but modern instant communications technology has enabled them to all connect in real time and manufacture "influence" with the political establishment. There's a reason that in the past LFD's were LFD's and not politically or socially influential and that was because letting them have influence would drive society down the "Alice in Wonderland" loony rabbit hole. Now they are all interconnected via modern communications tech and have "influence" that's where we are heading. Strap in for the ride it's going to get worse before it gets better. As a student of 20th century history I was always fascinated how propaganda on a mass scale was used to influence the masses to follow seriously unhinged paths and often imagined the process. Well now I don't need to use my imagination because I'm living it every day more and more. The LFD's, political and social influence and propaganda are all connected by the same thread. Phil

  23. I agree and I'm not anal about my coffee but then again where I live the standards are high. one of the places I stayed in in Italy the room elcheapo espresso machine had a disposable bag of some sort in the water tank. I'm assuming it was to condition the water in some way as it was a country villa and may well have been using bore or tank water. Need to research this. Phil

  24. the water quality rabbit hole gives me a headache. very real, but man it gets complicated. you do of course want good or great quality water, but exactly what that means can get convoluted pretty quick, and the espresso snob community gets way, way into that (another "motor oil" type discussion). certainly a level of diminishing returns there as a good solution is pursued, but where the sweet spot is between "its not perfect" and "its good enough", can be hard to find. My well water comes out hard and with lots of "stuff" (ppm) in it. it's then softened, and comes out slightly acidic and low ppm. It then goes through what most consider a good quality in-line filter, just for the espresso machine (plumbed in), and it comes out with a higher ph and higher ppm. it actually ends up about where it should be on ph and ppm, but how I don't yet understand. All stuff I never wanted to know...

  25. I had to double check that it wasn't a different Jaguar company - like a new fashion brand or something. But there are other videos confirming that, yes, this really is the car company. I'm not (and do not ever expect to be) in the luxury car market. So this ad is certainly not aimed at me. I'll stick with my luxury-trimmed pickup truck (which is a hybrid F150). Goodbye Jaguar, it was nice knowing you.

  26. Awright! he is excused then.... incidentally, I left the Facebook Moto Guzzi Quota group a few days ago. I don't like the format, the restrictions; I thought I had finally found one possible way to use Facebook, but then navigating the way they want you to post, the contact photos which require the user to flip through them to see them all, the automatically hidden replies chosen arbitrarily, so you have to click to have all the answers, sometimes multiple times. Garbage! I am better off it.

  29. I am trying to understand what the marketing group that came up with this idea used to support that engagement. When I think of Jaguar, it is like Rolls Royce, or Aston Martin. A non nonsense company. Where did they got the feeling this orientation was going to be a hit? I think Jaguar was one of the brand caught in the let's move to only EVs. The lastest sales statistics showed that company was not doing very well. I got they needed to shake up the spider webs from the "old" Jaguar. Yet, I think they went too far into turning the company upside down. I think the latest events in the world are demonstrating that a large majority of the population wants to remain with the values that were the mainstay in the past. I recently logged on an administrative government website, and under the usual gender questions, there was a third choice. (I am talking about France). There is also the inclusive writting introduced in France. I must admit I am getting lost...
