I actually had a Gpack LH Torana with a 327 Chev engine Saginaw 4 speed and a Ford 9" diff in it Mick. The car was bought as a stolen recovery and the 6 cylinder and M21 and std diff removed and the Chev engine etc installed. Full engineers certificate etc. The guy that built it was a work colleague that was a single guy of around 40 back then and did amateur drag racing for a hobby in a hotted up LJ Torana. He also drove an XU-1 to work as well as having a 4 speed split window maroon 427 Corvette in immaculate nick. I had a ride in the Corvette once. He also had a water brake dyno in his garage that was connected to his swimming pool that he never used. An old style car nut bachelor that inherited his moms house and put it to good use, lol. Anyway the Chev Gpack looked appalling in it's orange paint and blue side stripes/lettering but naturally before he sold it to me he did a street meeting in it. Can't remember the times he did in it but it was faster than an SLR5000 at the time. Phil3 points

Yeah, it would have been. I remember hearing about that at the time. I gather the Celica box was a more or less straight up bolt in replacement for the "Aussie" four speed. And worked better and was stronger...2 points

I was telling Twin AH about a MG dealer Joe Eish from Salineville , Ohio who is long gone . When you ordered from Joe or Ida , you would get the parts in a tore up Tide washing powder box wrapped in masking tape along w/a old grocery store ticket along w/your MGNOC discount . Then you would mail them a check . They were magnificent people !2 points

Many thanks Lucky Phil for this advice!….Aussie dollar has ‘collapsed’ compared to the U.S.$ lately so why SD prices don’t look too bad! Just to confirm for this V11 series novice, SD #200001620 and MG Cycle #1096620 RAM parts are the same kit? Better images with bike back together will eventually follow….regards, Tennitragic.2 points

Thanks mate. Yep, I checked in one of our local bottle shops and plenty of Pinot Grigo but no Muscadet unfortunately. We do have a more specialsed bottle shop in town and a big chain store that carries international and more varieties closer to Melbourne, but with the temp hovering round the 30 degree mark and a nine year old granddaughter chomping at the bit to get home and into the pool, I had no choice/ say in the matter and had to head for home! Will try again soon ha ha . Cheers2 points

The truth is LiPo batteries are not evolving particularly fast at all from an energy storage perspective so anyone that thinks in 10 years time electric cars will be much more efficient is on the wrong path. LiPo batteries were invented back in the 70's and the tech was fairly dormant until Sony from memory picked it up in the early to mid 90's so they have had over 30 years of intensive development already. Any further gains are going to be incrementally small, there are no tech leaps on the horizon. It's mostly about reducing manufacturing costs now and reducing the faulty count. Naturally all the environmentally concerned people that buy them don't have any idea or solutions on how to dispose of or re manufacture them, same as old solar panels which go into land fill along with wind turbine blades which have a hard life as well.2 points

My brother had a Torana ( same body shape as the LH here), but a six cylinder. A previous owner had replaced the gearbox with a 5 speed Toyota Celica unit and this was as quick if not slightly quicker off the mark than an SLR 5000 too.. The V8 would eat it once into it's stride of course. Cheers Guzzler Ps I think it was a Celica gearbox but definitely something similar if not.2 points

I took the term undergrowth as what you normally find in dense forest. There was vegetation in and around these residential areas, but everything still burned. It is a horrible tragedy, a perfect storm. I can't imagine the impossible task of firefighting in those winds. Clean up, rebuilding, starting over. I have no words. There is so much more to the picture...somethings have to change.2 points

I can tell you I have two cars that we love. Both Toyota hybrids. 2022 Avalon and a 2023 Rav4. I have driven Teslas and Ionic 5's, and think they are neat, but still the jury is out in this household at least what is really best for the environment. I still have my 2007 Duramax with only 104k on it, just for towing.2 points

This was a fantastic car. A friend of mine had one. LH Torana with the L39 option. The Toranas without the hot-rod option were mostly shitboxes. Reliable, but boring. Ask @Lucky Phil, I'm sure he has some stories to tell. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Torana Don't ask me. I had one of these, Holden Monara GTS 186S, unfortunately the model with the 186 cu. inch 6-cylinder, not the one with the 327 Chevy V8. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Monaro#First_generation_(1968–1971) Mine was white, with a black vinyl roof, but had the stripe like this one.2 points

You blokes are on the right track. From the Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holden_Monaro The current car is an Opel Astra station wagon with a 1.6 CDTI Ecotec motor1 point

You got me ! IDK what a solid-state battery or a tab_less battery is . I thought they started out w/a zillion 18650 batteries in series parallel in a gigantic highly volatile tray that didn't like a floor jack getting it's virginity .1 point

I am an Hertz Gold member from my working days. There was a time when I was getting an email from them, each and every day about renting a Tesla for a heavy discount. I recently came accross an add stating Hertz was unloading a bunch of Teslas at sacrificed prices. Just out of curiosity, I went on their website to check out what "sacrificed prices" meant. It was all a lure. The so-called "discount" pricing was for cars that had around 100k miles, so well amortized already. The lower mileage cars were in the exact same price braket as what you could find on the market. This is not the first time I see adds for rental companies supposedly heavily discounted cars. When I was looking for a 911, I used to scan their offers, and their ask price was in the same range as other dealerships. Plus, they did not have the right color (here we go again).1 point

Back on topic : I can't understand why a bike dealership would not cater to older (15 yr +) bikes . You would at least get the owner/bike to the shop and then decide if you want to proceed. A lot of shops want 50% down of the repair estimate before starting . I know some shops that ended up broke and had a hop full of bikes left there because the owners would not pick them up. It seems like facilities only go for fast $$$ and no worries about customer retention or a good reputation . Also you get "advice" from the Company on how to handle YOUR business or at least you thought it was your business .1 point

Just buy a 5 speed no flywheel pickup RAM kit from MGcycles in the states They are lightweight steel flywheel these days. The genuine RAM alloy units had no failure issues and I have one fitted to my bike. SD is too expensive. You will need to use your original gearbox input drive is all and check the pushrod details in the instructions on the MG website. Forget about converting to a dual plate clutch assy. Once you have ridden a bike with a single plater you'd never want to go back to a dual plate sidecar flywheel assembly. https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193&products_id=1698 Phil1 point

BTW, my Corvette had been in the shop since 1 Oct and the Greenie has been since March. The bearing should be received for the Greenie, simple suspension parts for my Corvette are just about impossible to find unless you call any Corvette supplier in the USA, then they're plentiful and much cheaper than any Guzzi parts........1 point

In Australia, at least, the problem is that the Aboriginies, before the Europeans came, used to burn off regularly to create grazing ground for the kangaroos. That doesn't happen any more, and the current experts are still learning how to deal with the bush and how much, and how often, it has to burn to stay healthy. The bush in Australia needs to have low-grade fires regularly to stay healthy. Too much "protection" leads to a build-up of highly flammable detritus, so that when it inevitably burns, the fire is too hot for the trees and kills everything instead of renewing it. From the document that you linked: I suspect a similar situation: forest that was left to its own devices and burned "cold" regularly is now, in the vicinity of new housing developements, not able to burn off, and is not being cleared. This leads to a build-up of dead material on the ground, so when it inevitably does burn the fire is much hotter than it would have been under "natural circumstances", and is much harder to keep under control. Once again the "Australian experience", which is currently not always practised in Australia as I understand it, shows that the way to go is make sure there are no easily flammable sources in and around the buildings, and set "cold burns", i.e. deliberate forest fires under conditions that are not conducive to wildfires (winter, just after rainfall, whatever), to keep the amount of detritus on the ground under control.1 point

There is a great quote from a guy on social media. To sum it up, he said; When they said Elon was a genius making cars, well, I don't know cars so I took their word for it. Then they said Elon is a genius making rockets, well, I also don't know rockets so I took their word for it. Then they said Elon is a genius with software, well I do know software and I can say with no doubt everything he said about software is complete BS and he is an idiot. I think many give him credit for what his companies do. But often his companies do things wrong, sometimes because he insists they do it a certain way. Like his Tesla's and their Full Self Driving using only cameras. That will always be inferior to a multi-sensor based FSD. And it likely explains the dangers of Tesla's in FSD mode and why there are so many deaths. Also, when you say the best selling car I assume you are discounting the vehicles that sold more then the Tesla Model Y because they are SUVs and pickups. 4th is respectable, but if you look at Tesla sales as a whole compared to other brands I don't think they are even in the top 10.1 point

I LOVE THAT! They got Musk’s face just right, all white. i was in Tulsa to visit the Woody Guthrie and the Bob Dylan centers.. it was good but the highlight was down the road in OK city.. the American Banjo Museum.. everyone should go there! They have about 300 Banjos on display including those owned by Earl and Steve Martin. i had free supercharging and didn’t have to stop at any gas stations.1 point

Well, for a Rocket Scientist, and a STEM genius, I have to wonder why he has trouble recognizing that water pressure would be an issue during the massive LA fires and that the Water Works isn't the same as water in reservoirs? Of course it takes tax dollars to build public infrastructure. Like most billionaires, I'm sure he's more than willing to pay his fair share of taxes to maintain our "industry" and prosperity. @Chuck I've seen some of those Tesla bumper stickers that you're hinting.1 point

I think you should check that again, import is usually done based on regulations tgat were applicable at the time the type was introduced. For us these are the KR, KS and KT. That was all pre ABS. I think NZ is using UN/ECE based rules. (Australia does that and converts it to ADR Australian Design Rules).1 point

I think he now feels so entitled and megalomanical, that he is shifting his attention to politics. I don't know if you have followed, but he has publicly disparaged officials in both UK and France for the way they managed the respective countries in some specifics. At the same time, he got public praise from the Italian prime minister. I am guessing, that now he has established himself as an incredible business astute guy with Tesla and Space-X, that he has purchased a media, he would certainly want to be President of the USA. It is not going to happen because the US constitution does not allow US citizens not naturally born in the US to be President or Vice President. But his latest actions seem to indicate he wants to be more involved, and giving advice to every country. At least, he thinks he should.1 point

In other news, my Corvette is in it's 3rd repair shop to fix the right rear corner. Hopefully insurance and the body shop will agree to fix it. They tell me it's a 4 week backlog to get started.0 points
