  1. I recalled some conversations about air boxes like this one I just got a new 3D printer (Bambu P1S) and I've been busy making stuff. As part of this I'm learning OnShape, which I'm finding more intuitive than Fusion, which I also tried. I'm finding that if I find practical (or even semi practical) projects it helps me learn the CAD app better. The nice thing is that the printer is nearly flawless. I had a small printer many years ago (something like 2016) and I remember having to futz with the printer a lot. Now it's nearly pushing a button and waiting. And even though the printer is much, much faster it still takes time to print. The other thing that's changed is the materials you can print with. There is a huge variety with a variety of properties. Where was I? Ah, projects. In thinking about fun projects I thought that a custom air box would be interesting. The print area is approximately 256mm cubed so it will need to be made in sections. I may just start by making some velocity stacks. Then go from there.

  2. As cheap as Guzzi people are you’ll be lucky to get $10 bills.

  3. Fascinating. Impressive. I’ll always be in the bleachers cheering on such things, as opposed to actually doing anything of the sort. Still, I’m amazed at the potential. My only direct connection with 3D printing so far is ordering some wind deflectors for the V85 that literally fill the void between the stanchions and tank. That gap has been viewed as the cause of lots of wind turbulence and noise since the V85 appeared. I found the fix pretty useless, but did admire the ides and execution. Then, the Georgia Guzzi Guru, Wayne Orwig, made up a test set of front and rear turn signal stalks for my EV. The OEM ones are infamous for corroding and falling apart. That led to all sorts of MacGyver fixes of the popsicle stick splints, black electrical tape covers, and cable tie supports! I wish I had a "before' pic handy. Wayne's are grand ... Best wishes from the snow-covered alps and steppes at the top of Virginia. Bill

  4. A mate of mine bought one about 5 years ago in mint condition from Tassie. He also has a Rickman Kawasaki he's owned from new. Why he'd want a Mk111 Kawasaki I'll never know. Why anyone would want one I'll never know. I also know someone that raced one at Bathurst in a proddy race back in mid 70"s. There are some teenage memories I don't feel the need to re visit or repeat. Phil

  5. For me too. When the lottery win happens, I'll be buying one of them too. Perhaps even before the Countach.

  8. Locally, we also have this company supplying electronics for motorbikes. I have their ignition system on my V65 Florida, and when I ran into a problem with no spark, they helped me out via phone on a friday afternoon at 1740hrs until after 1800hrs without any complaining (with the friday afternoon drinks in the background). They have this: https://www.carmo.nl/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4318_1086&products_id=616&language=en&zenid=99a86542fb47940f10005a7f36e22d6b Albeit significantly higher priced compared to Docc's link.

  9. With a LeMans fairing, one could conceivably run the intakes forward of the engine, maybe even into clean air. Expensive surgery though.

  11. The solid state battery is suppose to have a weight to energy mass of a gasoline. About 3 times better than current EVs. Ford was supposed have them on the market by '25 or '26 (not heard anything). China is supposed to have them now. The Ford CEO drives a Xiaomi SU7. This thing is $30k and drives (and looks) like a Taycan. He loves it.

  12. By the time the Nova (Chevy II) was done, I think all the GM divisions except Caddy had a version. The last one was a kinda "Euro" version for the gas crisis with the stovebolt 6, hatchback and 4 speed manual overdrive. The bad boy was the '69 SS with "396" (402 CI) L-78 solid lifter 375 hp (also rated at 425 or 450 hp in '65 Corvette). My dad had a '70 Chevy II 4 door company car. That was the tightest, stiffest bodied car I'd ever sat in despite the rubber carpets. I think there were more "pro street" Novas on the road than Camaros or Mustangs. I remember a disappointed Road Runner guy getting beat by a new SS 350 on a marked off portion of May Ave. The MOPAR fans were disappointed.

  13. Reminds me of the argument Harley Sportster or Indian FTR owners use for their 12 litre petrol tanks Chuck. Like a car a motorcycle ride where you are planning fuel stops is a PITA and not fun. I regularly do 900klm plus trips and the last thing I want to be even considering is where the next fuel stop is and when I do get there I'm fuelled up and out of the place asap. I fuel the car and the wife buys the coffees and pays the bill and we're gone. If we want a break it will be at a Cafe of our choice on route and not some horrid fuel stop fast food catastrophe complete with screaming kids and frustrated frazzled parents. Don't want to be there any longer than absolutely necessary. BTW it's the same everywhere in the world, Italy road stops are just as horrible. Truth is I'm not opposed to EV's per sei I'm opposed to having them forced upon me whether I like it or not under spurious claims about saving the planet and how they really are so practical. Phil

  15. Nice! I’d be a little concerned that it might crack along the lamination lines but if it was printed with enough infill and thick walls it should be ok. Let us know how they do.

  16. And I would tell that Ford CEO he could drive that EV straight out the gate and find him a new job ! If he can't support the Company that writes his check..... You don't work for the University of Louisville and wear Blue & White clothing .

  18. LowRyter you are correct the Chinese are in hyper speed developing EV cars. Whats interesting to me is how you can see elements of SAIC partnership bits in these new models. Like you said Porsche, VW, GM and other styling elements clearly “borrowed” from legacy car makers. Add that most of these Chinese brands make cell phone batteries or are battery makers have a cost advantage on manufacturing the battery. Kyle from Out of Spec loved it, it’s legit. The only thing saving Tesla is their thrifty innovative factory production and FSD software thats still ahead, barely. Solid state tech is promising much longer range and quicker charging which will be a game changer. A new Tesla model 3 rwd long range has 375 range, which is really good for lithium battery car.

  25. I am an Hertz Gold member from my working days. There was a time when I was getting an email from them, each and every day about renting a Tesla for a heavy discount. I recently came accross an add stating Hertz was unloading a bunch of Teslas at sacrificed prices. Just out of curiosity, I went on their website to check out what "sacrificed prices" meant. It was all a lure. The so-called "discount" pricing was for cars that had around 100k miles, so well amortized already. The lower mileage cars were in the exact same price braket as what you could find on the market. This is not the first time I see adds for rental companies supposedly heavily discounted cars. When I was looking for a 911, I used to scan their offers, and their ask price was in the same range as other dealerships. Plus, they did not have the right color (here we go again).

  26. None of us are quite right. There's no normal person and we all have likes and dislikes, obsessions and peccadillos. We all suffer from pressures and stresses. I suppose most of us see a problem when the corrupt harm innocents and obstruct the quest for truth.

  27. Fuel filter. I have not taken the trouble to look for recommendations here for the in-tank fuel filter, but this just came up from a very reliable source in the German forum, so I thought I'd pass it on. Note: I HAVEN'T TRIED THIS OUT!. I'm just passing on something that I read. The man in question wrote that he has used this filter many times on various Guzzi models with an in-tank filter, and on being asked by me claimed that it was also good for the V11 models. The stated model name is Mann MWK44 I wont post any links, because I got lots of hits from a simple search. Price seems currently to be around €15,-. For comparison, someone else posted this link to a filter from Wendel in Berlin (a very reliable and reputable supplier) https://wendelmotorraeder.de/benzinfilter-stelvio-ab-11_641277-p-6100765.html?ref=expl €76,- and a couple of cents.

  28. I get what you are saying, but where I ride an Apple AirTag would be useless. It needs to be around people and their cell phones to work as I understand it. And if you are somewhere that has no cell signal, it likely isn't going to work. For emergencies when out riding you can get a sat pager or other satellite based beacons or phones. FOr the original use, theft protection, an air tag should help. There are also Lo-Jack devices that you can get that are made for that.

  32. Funny story: I asked my insureance person what kind of lock I would need for the theft part of the insureance. He checked a list of numbers of stolen motorcycles. "V11... I think nobody wants them because no theft reported", he said. And I don't need a certified lock. A KLX250 would be different.
