  2. Yes....it's in Datil/Pie Town area, usually in August. There are a few folks in Arizona and Texas who go there occasionally. Matt Forslund I believe is still the guy who runs it...I think he's still the New Mexico rep. Will have to see if there's a link somewhere on the other Guzzi forums. It should also be posted on the MGNOC events page...

  3. Why would you want to go through all that? Why calibrate a speedo? All three of my cars the speedos over read different amounts. The Kia 5kph@100, the Mazda 2kph@100 and the Supra 2kph@100. All calibrated off the GPS. I adjust the cruise control speed accordingly and I know at lesser speeds the difference is even smaller. Seems to me when you fit significantly different wheel sizes you just do a 60 mph drive and check it against the GPS and remember the offset and you're good. Even with my addled brain I can remember the speedo inaccuracies in three different cars. Add to that a motorcycle with a Veglia speedo! Phil

  4. Most excellent!! That makes 3 of us then on the board doing the Tour. If you're near Houston anytime, send up a flare and we can have a small Spine Raid reunion at Classic Rock in Navasota and pick up that stop for you! My flag is 108 this year - 13 stops done so far on the weekend of the flag pickup, hopefully another 3 this weekend and another 5 or so next week. P6X and I picked up our flags in Bandera...did you make it there also or just got it in the mail now?

  6. What front forks are fitted to your bike? They don't appear to be std V11 Sport fork legs and or you have the axle in back to front. On V11 43mm forks the axle nut is always on the LHS and the axle is inserted from the RHS. Those look like the later 43mm forks with the 25mm hollow axle but in the wrong way around? Phil Edit......Yep just checked. Looks like you bike has Aprilia RSV1000 forks.

  12. Mine just came in the mail. 98% probability I'll be on my '04 BMW GSA. 1% probability each of being on the '05 BMW RT or the '00 MG V11. Depending on timing and availability, maybe 2 if my kid rides along. The plan is to come from East to West, and spend a week or two doing nothing but hitting the stops. Probably going to be more in the hot part of the year, June-ish. The GSA lives in El Paso and it's currently in Michigan. I have a lot of logistics to sort out lol

  13. A word to the wise: I don't like that dealer. Not that I have directly had a bad experience; I had already decided to avoid him before it could come to that. In the course of looking for parts, I have looked at quite a number of his adverts. The general impression is that he is anything other than cheap, and that he doesn't particularly seem to care how bad the condition of the parts is. He still puts a premium price on them, and often describes something as "good condition" when it is obvious from the photos that the part is, in fact, in a very shabby state. So if anyone is thinking of buying there, have a really close look at the photos first. Twice.

  14. Thanks for finding that procedure Docc . I tried looking for it yesterday and ran out of time. I suppose the o-rings in the original manual shut-off valves had junky 0-rings and couldn't tolerate the alcohol content ? The only way to get quality o-rings is from a good industrial supplier .

  16. I can solder just fine, but the two wires are really close together and I only have about an 1/8" stub protruding. I'll have to put a small heat shield between them. After reading about these things, I see how they are problematic. Such an important part with pansy ass wiring.

  18. Generally, any mirror will be the first thing to hit the ground if/when the motorcycle falls over, including the stock mirrors. My wife has a collection of broken stock and replacement stock mirrors as a result. The bar end mirrors do hit the ground, but they tend to act as protection for more important things. You can keep riding with a broken mirror, you may not be able to do so with a broken throttle. As to aesthetics, I find them to be way better looking then the standard bug antenna mirrors. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Suffice it to say, some people think they look better then stock and some don't. To each their own.

  19. Mate, the rain stopped but temp stayed round 15 ish.... Perfect for a ride! But I got conned into taking the minister to the bi-annual Poowong market today, so the bike remains in the carport with her blanket.... bugger! At least the Burek ( Fried Turkish bread with mince and onion filling ) was great and a local band kept us entertained so it wasn't all bad.... Cheers

  20. Yep I often see on car forums guys that remove stuff from cars because "they aren't needed". The fact is every car and bike is designed down to the last cent and unless there is a big customer appeal issue then it either doesn't get incorporated OR it's just enough to do the task. My FIL worked at the GM test ground here for over 40 years testing and developing new cars and prototypes and I meet owners all the time that modify production stuff that they spent many many hours developing and think some backyard business that's R$D consists of a few hundred miles driving on public roads has it all covered. The Supra has a 5 pound weight bolted to the chassis cross member near the diff. It's called a chassis damper. Whats it do? not sure but I could have an educated guess. Clowns remove them because it's useless and saves weight! My advice is that unless you know precisely what it does and have the knowledge of a chassis engineer then better to leave it installed because the bean counters at BMW won't have it there unless it's necessary. A five dollar saving on a chassis damper not fitted translates to probably a million dollars on the bottom line to BMW/Toyota. They wouldn't fit it unless it was necessary. Phil

  21. I have no problem with it, in fact I encourage it. OEM is by default, a dime a dozen. If someone wants to be creative, why not? It's built for their own preference. Some people follow stick and ball sports when they could follow MotoGP, I'll never understand it, but to each, his own.
